Compact Xiria is one of the smallest ring main units of its kind. This high degree of compactness is a direct result of the combination of technologies used by Eaton electrical field control, solid insulation and the use of extremely compact vacuum interrupters. This compactness offers direct financial benefits in new buildings and when refurbishing existing transformer stations because of the minimal floor area required. Ready for automated networks Xiria is completely ready for use in fully-automated networks. There are various options available for the system, depending on the level of remote signaling and remote control required. These options are modular, so they can be quickly and easily added in the future. In this way Xiria anticipates future developments in automation and operational control, so you can be sure that you will not be left with control, display and communication standards that are too specific or possibly even obsolete. Clean and green Xiria is made exclusively of environmentally-friendly materials. The insulation medium is clean, dry air and the switching medium is vacuum. Thus Xiria responds to the demand for sustainability in energy distribution. The unit is easy to dismantle at the end of its service life as the materials used are clearly labeled and can be reused. This facilitates recycling and avoids excessive costs and environmental taxes when the unit is decommissioned. Mechanism The mechanism is a hand operated or hand/motor operated spring charged mechanism, connected to the vacuum interrupters and the change-over switch. It is operated via two rotating shafts on the front provided with the necessary mechanical interlocks to avoid wrong operation. The mechanism is provided with viewing windows on the front for direct visual indication of the earthed position of the change-over switch and the ON-OFF position of the main vacuum interrupter. The front operating panel is also provided with a black & white single line mimic, showing the positions of the vacuum interrupter and the earth/Busbar position of the change-over switch. Closing The closing spring is charged first (manually with the operation handle or by motor), automatically followed by the closing movement. During the closing movement the opening springs are charged automatically. Opening Opening is achieved by pressing the red mechanical trip pushbutton on the front or by energizing the trip coil via the integrated overcurrent protection relay or via a remote trip signal. The load break switch is provided with an anti-reflex mechanism. This means that opening is not possible during the closing movement and until 3s after contact touch of the switch. Closing on a fault, resulting in a short-circuit current, cannot result in an attempt of the load break switch to interrupt this short-circuit current. A load break switch is designed for interrupting load currents and not for interrupting short-circuits currents.
Remote operation A panel with remote operation is provided with the auxiliary contacts and the trip coil as described above and additional a closing motor (M1) is mounted. To avoid inserting an operating handle during the closing operation, a blocking coil (Y1) is placed in the mechanism. The selector switch (S4) must also be in the middle position for correct operation of the remote operation. Simple tripping circuit-breaker A circuit breaker can also be provided with a simple remote trip function by using the existing protection trip coil (Y2) for remote tripping. For this purpose a selector/timer unit (K8) is mounted. Only 24 V DC can be applied for this function. Auxiliary power supply The auxiliary power supply for the remote tripping and operation is 24 V DC. When a different voltage is used, each panel can be provided with an additional voltage converter (U10). Manual operation Manual operation of the switchgear is achieved with one operating handle, which is inserted in the access holes on the front. Placing the handle in the left hole and turning it clockwise will close the vacuum interrupter. Placing it in the right hole and turning it clockwise will move the change-over switch from the Busbar position to the earthed position. Turning the handle anti-clockwise it will move the change-over switch from the earthed position to the Busbar position.
Degree of protection The standard degrees of protection for indoor type switchgear are described in IEC 62271-1. The primary enclosure with the vacuum interrupters, the mechanisms and the change-over switches is ambient proof with conditioned dry air inside. This enclosure is sealed for life (> 25 yr) against the penetration of moist and dust. The outside enclosure, the cable compartments and the operating front have a protection degree of IP31D under normal service conditions. When the top or front covers are opened the protection degree is IP2X. Height The switchgear is designed for operation under "normal service conditions" in accordance with IEC 62271-1. This means that the switchgear should not be installed in areas higher than 1000 meters. For application in areas above this height, the test voltage has to be increased as laid down in IEC 60072-2.
Changing the voltage When a switchboard is originally ordered for a lower voltage than 24 kV and it will be used for 24 kV in future, it must be manufactured, tested and delivered according to the 24 kV design. A switchboard can only be used for 24 kV when "24 kV" is mentioned on the rating plates. 24 kV-switchboards can be used for 12 kV without restrictions, only the maximum short circuit capacity will be limited to 16 kA instead of 20 kA.

The Cast Resin and Dry Type Transformers have reached a high reliability due to the latest technical progress. 1. General Characteristics: Reduced dimensions. Humidity and adverse environment proof (pollution). Flame redundant and self-extinguishing. Almost no maintenance needed (no liquids to contaminate, break down, leak, explode, or bum) High short time overloads capability. Very low sound levels. No partial discharge (PD). Installed in same room of circuit breakers. No necessity of low tank for the oil. Possibility for forced air cooling to increase transformers capacity. Possibility to be assembled on site. High mechanical withstand capability to resist power surges and short circuits. No special authorization for the transport as for liquid filled transformer. 2. Applications: Due to the fact that the HV windings are totally cast, the Cast Resin transformers are entirely moisture, dust and destructive elements (by pollution) resistant, therefore; they dont need the air conditioning in their substation and they are maintenance free. According to these features, this kind of transformer is suitable for particular industrial applications as: foundries, rolling mills, refineries, mines, offshore platforms and tube railways. Since those materials are flame resistant and self-extinguishing, the cast resin transformers are particularly suitable for special applications as: hospitals, banks, sky-scrapers, and commercial buildings. 3. Production Range: Distribution cast resin and dry type transformers rating up to 3.6 MVA and voltage up to 22 KV. 4. Components' Analysis:
HV windings: The high voltage windings are made of electrolytic Copper super enameled conductors (wire or foil strip depending upon power and voltage requirements). It is possible to produce Aluminum windings. The windings are in globed under vacuum in epoxide resin depending on requirement. The accuracy of execution of these processes allows the obtainment of windings free from partial discharges. Standard Accessories: Raring and diagram plate. Earth terminal. Skid under base or truck with bi-directional rollers. Primary terminal. Secondary terminal lifting lugs. Temperature monitoring unit with display. Optional Accessories: Over current relay. Forced ventilation. Enclosure with IP 21, 23 or other protection class. Test: All transformers are singly tested with routine test, according to IEC 726 Standards. Upon request the following type tests can be carried out on customers request: Temperature rise test Full wave impulse test

Conductor/Insulation System Bus bars are fabricated from high strength, 98% conductivity copper or 55% conductivity aluminum. The joint edge of each Busway conductor bar is beveled while the Pow-R-Bridge conductor bars have full rounded edges. This makes for a smooth and easy connection between the Busway and Pow-RBridge joint. The phase and neutral bars are insulated with Class B 130C epoxy insulation. The epoxy powder is applied by an automated fluidized bed process to ensure uniform thickness. The epoxy powder is applied over the full length of the preheated bar except for the joint and plug-in contact surfaces. After the powder has been fused to the bus bar, the bars enter an oven to cure. This process ensures that all of the epoxy powder cross links and hardens to the bus bar. Fluidized bed applied epoxy provides resistance to water absorption and chemical erosion. Epoxy has outstanding heat transfer characteristics and is ideally suited for sandwich bus applications. The uniform thickness and smooth surface provided by epoxy ensures that the insulation will have no cavities or voids and also provides excellent edge coverage to the bars. Epoxy has excellent dielectric strength, is flame retardant and resists impacts that other Class B insulating material could not withstand. Bus bars for plug-in applications have full-sized welded conductor tabs at the contact location points of the plug-in outlet. The tabs are of the same thickness as the conductor bars. The plug-in conductor tabs extend into the plug-in outlet, maintaining a true sandwich design throughout the entire Busway length. The result is improved heat dissipation, better bracing and elimination of the need to separate, or flare, the conductor bars at the plug-in opening. Maintaining a true sandwich design also eliminates potential pathways for the propagation of flame, smoke and gas through the Busway housing, commonly referred to as the chimney effect. Silver-plating is applied to all joint and contact surfaces after the fluidized bed epoxy is applied. Aluminum bus bars are silver-plated by the Alstan 88C process. Copper bus bars are plated with silver by a flashing process. The silver-plating of the conductor tabs provides an extremely durable contact surface for the spring loaded connections of bus plug stab assemblies. Housing Details Pow-R-Way III is constructed with rugged two-piece extruded aluminum housing. There are no seams or welds across the top or bottom sides of the housing. The housing is bolted along the bottom sides below the bus bars with high tensile strength zinc-plated hardware. No fastening bolts or screws penetrate the housing or enter the bus bar package. Pow-R-Way III achieves the highest 6-cycle short circuit withstand ratings available in the industry today. The non-magnetic, all-aluminum housing provides for excellent heat dissipation and a significant reduction in reactance and magnetic flux leakage as compared to a steel or steel and aluminum combination housing. The integrity and strength of the housing ensures specifies and users of a safe and durable installation over a broad spectrum of industrial and commercial applications. A protective finish of ANSI 61, epoxy powder paint is applied by an automated electrostatic process. Integral Ground The two-piece, extruded aluminum housing is designed, manufactured and UL listed as a 50% integral ground path (integral earth) and is fully fault rated. The system ground continuity is maintained through each joint by the ground path end blocks, ground path plates and joint covers. The aluminum joint covers are furnished with ground path contact surfaces on the inside of each end. When the covers are installed, the contact surfaces are bolted directly to the ground path end blocks with four 3/8-16 1/2-inch (12.7 mm) hex bolts per cover. A highly visible label is furnished on each joint cover to alert the installer that the covers must be properly installed to maintain the ground path. The result is a 50% ground path that ensures ground continuity with very low resistance characteristics. Internal Ground Pow-R-Way III offers a 50% ground bus (copper or aluminum) that is internal to the Busway.
Isolated Ground Option To meet the growing demand for grounding isolation, Pow-R-Way III offers a 50% isolated ground bus that is insulated and internal to the Busway. This option is available for application to operations with heavy microprocessor-based loads or large computer installations where grounding isolation is essential.

General Description Eatons automatic transfer switches are reliable, rugged, versatile and compact assemblies for transferring essential loads and electrical distribution systems from one power source to another. Transfer switches are normally supplied in stand-alone enclosures. Eaton has the capability to integrate transfer switches into other Eaton distribution assemblies. See the following table for a list of integrated solutions. Design Description A transfer switch is a critical component of any emergency or standby power system. When the normal (preferred) source of power is lost, a transfer switch quickly and safely shifts the load circuit from the normal source of power to the emergency (alternate) source of power. This permits critical loads to continue running with minimal or no outage. After the normal source of power has been restored, the retransfer process returns the load circuit to the normal power source the three basic components of a typical transfer switch are: 1. Power switching device to shift the load circuits to and from the power source. 2. Transfer Logic Controller to monitor the condition of the power sources and provide the control signals to the power switching device and initiate the back generator startup. 3. Control power source to supply operational power to the controller and switching device. All Eaton transfer switches are designed to meet the requirements set forth by UL 1008 and are 100% rated switches. Eaton builds contactor based design switches, molded-case switch (or breaker-based) design switches, and Magnum power-case switch design switches. Transfer Switch Types Although an automatic transfer is the most common type of transfer, transfer switches have the following types. Switch Types Manual transfer: This type of transfer is a non-automatic transfer switch manually initiated and manually operated. There is no motor operator or solenoid to initiate the transfer. The operator needs to open the enclosure door and operate the manual handle. Manual transfer is available only on a breaker-based design. Service entrance ratings are not available on manual transfer breaker-based designs. Non-automatic transfer: This type of transfer is manually initiated, but electrically operated via the solenoid in a contactor-based design and the motor operator in a breaker-based design. Automatic transfer: This type of transfer takes place automatically per the programmable settings in the ATS controller. The ATS controller senses source availability and when the programmed conditions are met, initiates a command to start the transfer including the generator start command (when transferring from a utility to a generator source). An automatic transfer switch can be configured to perform a utility-to-utility transfer or a generator-to-generator transfer (provided the ATS controller has this capability).
Bypass isolation transfer switch: This type of transfer switch includes an automatic transfer switch and also includes the bypass switch that allows the capability to transfer the load to the bypass switch without interrupting the power. Maintenance bypass transfer switch: A maintenance bypass transfer switch is a manually (manually initiated and electrically operated) initiated transfer switch used for specific applications for a UPS. Soft load transfer switch: This is an automatic closed transition transfer switch with active control of the generator voltage and governor frequency from the transfer switch controller. Mounting Type Fixed-mount switch: Most transfer switches use a fixed-mounted power device. For contactor-based designs and breaker-based designs, the transfer switch contactor or molded case switch is a fixedmounted design. Individual switching devices may not be removed from the circuit without breaking hard connections to bus bars. Drawout mount switch: Both contactor-based and Magnum-based transfer switches have optional Drawout capability. Magnum ATSs have optional Drawout of both Source 1 and Source 2 Magnum power case switch and breaker. Bypass isolation switches have Drawout ATS switches. In addition the bypass isolation contactor design has an optional dual Drawout design. Magnum bypass isolation transfer switches are supplied as standard with Drawout of all the power-case switches. Transition Type Open transition: This is a break before make transfer. There is a definite break in power as the loads taken off one source and connected to the other source. Open in-phase transition: This is a break before make transfer. There is a definite break in power as the load is taken off one source and connected to the other source. The ATS controller allows the transfer only when the phase difference between the two sources is near zero. The two position transfer switch is closed on Source 1 or closed on Source 2. Delayed transition: This is a break before make or open transition that also has a center off or neutral position with a programmable time delay setting for the neutral position. The three position transfer switch is either closed on Source 1, closed on Source 2, or in a center off, neutral position (not closed on either source). Delayed transition with load voltage decay: This is a delayed transition with the optional feature to delay in the neutral position to point where the load voltage decays to a programmable voltage level, when the load voltage level reaches the programmable set point, the transfer from the neutral position initiates. Closed transition: This is a make before break transfer. Both sources are connected to the load for less than 100ms before the break occurs. The two power sources have to be in synchronism and be good sources for the transfer to take place. These programmable settings for relative phase angle difference, frequency and voltage difference are made in the ATS controller. Soft load transition: This is a closed transition type transfer with the soft load ATS controller having the ability to take active control of the generator voltage and frequency. This control is used to synchronize the generator source to the utility source.

Accurate, equal load share is the number one characteristic that determines the integral quality and reliability of a parallel UPS system. With Hot Sync technology this is achieved without the need for communication between the UPSs thus no single point of failure is added when introducing parallel modules to a system. From an operational and economical viewpoint, the achieved close to perfect reliability brings clear savings in the long run, as every downtime incident is costly and might lead to unpredictable consequences. The two-module system shown in the picture below can be configured as 160 kVA N+1 redundant (320 kVA capacity with a tie cabinet).
The benefits of Hot Sync 1. Erases single point of failure 2. Systems are capable of paralleling for both redundancy and capacity 3. Ensures that each module is operating independently 4. No added circuitry or components are required for a standard UPS to be switched in to operate in parallel 5. A proven technology - thousands of systems are operating successfully around the world

ABM Technology
Superior battery management Battery service life is a major contributor to UPS reliability. Since batteries are electrochemical devices, their performance gradually decreases over time. Premature wear-out means higher costs in terms of replacement labor and shorter service cycle. A worn battery entails a risk of unexpected load loss. In normal UPS operation, backup power is needed only occasionally and the battery wearing rate depends strongly on how the full charge is being maintained. Excess charging is detrimental under any operating circumstances. Significant extension of battery life Eaton has created ABM technology to extend the life of valve regulated lead-acid batteries by applying sophisticated logic to the charging regime. Using the traditional trickle charge method, batteries become subject to electrode corrosion and electrolyte dry-out, especially in standby service use due to continuous float charging. ABM is essentially an addition of intelligence to the charging routine by preventing unnecessary charging, thus significantly retarding wear-out. ABM provides an additional feature for monitoring battery condition and advance warning about the end of battery life upon detection of a weak battery. It also optimizes the recharge time, which is advantageous when there may be consecutive power outages within a short period. ABM has been used for over 15 years in our UPSs ranging from 1 to 160 kVA and User benefits is now applied in UPSs up to 1100 kVA. User benefits 1. Predictive and automatic diagnostics of battery health 2. Significant extension of battery life compared to traditional charging method 3. Optimization of battery recharging time with dual mode charging method 4. Automatic battery charge voltage compensation within 0 to +50C temperature range ABM cycle and operation how does it work? The basic idea of ABM is to leave a fully charged battery in rest mode for most of the time, and then apply charge current only at certain intervals. Initially, in order to charge up a fully or partly discharged battery, the charger starts at a constant current appropriate for the battery type used. When the battery voltage reaches a set level, the operation is changed to float mode using a constant but lower voltage, thus providing an optimum recharge time. The battery is kept at this voltage for 24 hours until it comes to the first test point. This takes approximately one minute, and during this period voltage drop measurements are taken while loading the battery, giving an indication of battery condition. The float charging is continued for an additional 24 hours, plus a period equal to 1.5 Battery voltages during ABM charging process. Times the constant current charging time, before the rest mode is initiated, At this point, charging is discontinued for a maximum of 28 days as if the batteries were disconnected. During the first 10 days the battery voltage is continuously monitored, and if it drops below 2.1 V/cell, the ABM restarts in charge mode and the user gets a notification of improper battery operation. If it drops below this limit after the 10-day period, charging is resumed without an alarm being raised. In short, the algorithm uses three charging stages in its operation. Thus, the batteries experience much less stress than in the case of traditional charging. A typical battery charging cycle without power interruptions is shown in the graph below.
