The International Voluntary Blood Donors Day was celebrated world th wideon14 June07underthetheme SafeBloodforSafeMotherhood. WorldBloodDonorsDaywasinitiated International Federation of Blood DonorOrganizations,andInternational SocietyofBloodTransfusion. The Day has been endorsed by the World Health Organization,whichco sponsors the event. Together these organizationsrepresent 192 Member States, 181 National Red Cross and Red CrescentSocieties,50 nationalvoluntaryblood donororganizationsand blood t ransfusion specialiststhroughout theworld. WorldBloodDonorsDayprovidesa special opportunity tothank all the voluntary (nonremunerated) blood donors. Several millions owe their existencetopeopletheymaynever meetpeoplewhodonatetheirblood withoutanyrewardorremuneration. In either of these conditions medicalcareisessentialtosavethehumanlifeandthen blood transfusion becomes inevitable. But for this transfusion blood from other human body is procured by voluntary donation only. Forcefully blood procurement is illegal, hence ruled out. Counseling is theonlymeanbywhichaprospectivedonorisconvinced for a blood donation. As such donation is praised and placed in a higher order of human conduct. And among allthedonationsblooddonationisknownastheholiest. Itisobvious,becauseitsavessomeoneslife.Topromote blood donation in a civilized society is identified as one of the prime activities. The donated blood is preserved at a safer place known as the blood bank. Mostly these blood banks are promoted by Red Cross Societies. June th 14 is identified as World Blood Donors Day. It is promotedbyInternationalFederationRedCrossandRed Crescent Societies, International Federation of Blood DonorsOrganizationandInternationalSocietyforBlood Transfusion. Popularity of observation of the day is gaining ground these days. The day is of immense importanceforthemwhoactuallyworkforhumankinds. It has been endorsed by World Health Organization, whichisrepresentedby192member states,181National Red Cross and Red Crescent Society and 50 National Voluntary Blood Donor Organization.
