INTRODUCTION

Detailed description, users manual and necessary program equipment are placed on the CD that makes part of the basic set. Here you will find basic information about the Multi-Di@g diagnostic system you have to know when unwrapping individual parts and the setting procedure basic parameters for the communication of Multi-Di@g with the computer.

INSTALLATION CD DESCRIPTION AND ITS RUNNING

The attached CD contains all the necessary software for the use of Multi-Di@g system including the accompanying files such as users manuals, prospectuses and the most used service procedures. Insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. If the CD does not run automatically, run the autorun.exe program which you will find on the CD.

MULTI-DI@G, M-D PORTAL, M-D DOC AND M-D SCOPE PROGRAMS INSTALLATION

Multi-Di@g and Multi-Di@g Portal installations are connected to each other, Multi-Di@g Portal installation is started automatically once Multi-Di@g is installed. First install Multi-Di@g diagnostic software itself (see the following Chap. 4.1) and then the common entry point for the whole program family called Multi-Di@g Portal (see Chap. 4.2) is installed automatically. Installation of Multi-Di@g Doc is also recommended (see Chap. 4.3), the application serves for proper handling of available user manuals within the portal environment. Multi-Di@g Scope Installation (see chap. 4.4)

4.1

MULTI-DI@G DIAGNOSTIC PROGRAM INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION

Multi-Di@g Diagnostic program is not possible install on the windows 9x/Me If you install the program on the computer with Windows 2000/XP/Vista operation system, log in as a system administrator. Select the Multi-Di@g + Portal (Install) option (see Fig. 1) from the menu. Installation is intuitive you will follow the Installation Wizard displayed on the PC screen. The default language of the Wizard is English but it can correspond to your language version of Windows. The installation may take several seconds. Click on "Finish" to complete the installation (see Fig. 4).

When you terminate the installation by clicking the Finish button, the Multi-Di@g configuration dialogue box (see Fig. 5) is displayed in which you shall set up the basic parameters for the communication of MultiDi@g and the computer. Note: The operation can be interrupted and at any later time user can resume it and finish or change parameters by clicking the button in position 2 - Fig. 27 and then Fig. 30. If you do not desire to configure Multi-Di@g, continue with Chap 4.2.

4.1.1

COMMUNICATION INTERFACE SELECTION

The operation is started by clicking the button see pos.2 - Fig. 27 and then Fig. 30. Click the Communication interface button (see the cursor in Fig. 5) to display a new menu (see Fig. 6) in which the communication channel for the communication of Multi-Di@g and the computer is set up. At this moment the interface does not have to be connected physically therefore this setting is carried out manually (no automatic choice of interface is available).

4.1.2

VCI SERIAL NUMBER ENTERING

Click VCI serial number button (see the cursor in Fig. 7) to display a new dialogue box in which you enter the interface serial number (see Fig. 8 SN:044931 49/04) in the blue-highlighted text box (A000000).

Note for Fig. 8: This number is identical for each device and cannot be substituted! It shall correspond to the label stuck on the interface (see Fig. 8) and to the released number on the CD that was entered when burning on the CD depending on the paid license (carried out by the Sales Department). If for instance a small letter instead of a capital letter is entered, the interface WILL NOT COMMUNICATE with the computer and therefore the diagnostic program will not run either. If the program update is carried out, this dialogue box will not be displayed! The necessary data are known from the previous installation.

4.1.3

APPLICATION LANGUAGE SELECTION

By clicking the Application language button (see the cursor in Fig. 9) the Application language dialogue box is displayed.

4.1.4

USER INFORMATION

Click this button (see the cursor in Fig. 11) to display the dialogue box that is prepared for further use.

4.1.5

OPTIONS (SCREEN RESOLUTION)

Click this button (see the cursor in Fig. 12) Option (screen resolution) dialogue box is displayed.

After the successful programs installation, a new Multi-Di@g program group is formed (see Fig. 18), or the group already formed by another program is completed and a Multi-Di@g Portal icon (see Fig. 19) appears on the desktop of the screen

4.1.6

NEWLY RECOGNISED HARDWARE (HW) INSTALLATION

After you have successfully carried out any installation of a program from the Multi-Di@g family and have connected any USB device from the ATAL company to the USB ports of your computer, the information about the found new hardware (HW) will soon appear in the form of the so-called Info tips (see Fig. 13). Note: The language of the Wizard corresponds to your language version of Windows.

The HW installation is intuitive and you shall follow the New Hardware Wizard being shown on the PC screen (Fig. 14). The following series of pictures are taken out from the Wizard of the Windows XP operation system:

If any problems occur with the installation of a found new device (e.g. missing drivers), an info tip appears too.

The warning message of the Windows XP system informs that the installed driver was not certified by the Microsoft company. This message can appear several times during the installation and it can be ignored without any misgivings! Note: The Found Hardware Wizard will repeat several times. Proceed in the same way as in the previous installations until the converter is installed and ready for use..

4.1.7

PROGRAM START UP

To start the program up, click on the Multi-Di@g Portal icon on the monitor desktop (see Fig. 19) or on the Multi-Di@g Portal option from the Start\Programs program group (see Fig. 18).

Note for the USB port: If the USB communication is selected (see Fig. 6), the Multi-Di@g VCI icon (see Fig. 20) will be displayed on the Windows Main Toolbar (on the lower right-hand side of the screen).

4.1.8

PROGRAM CONTROL

Control program is intuitive and makes use of custom Windows operating system. An example how to start the diagnostics is given in Chap. 4.2.3 and Chap. 4.2.6, respectively.

Multi-Di@g Diagnostic program is not possible install on the windows 9x/Me If you install the program on the computer with Windows 2000/XP/Vista operation system, log in as a system administrator. Select the Multi-Di@g + Portal (Install) option (see Fig. 21) from the menu. Installation is intuitive you will follow the Installation Wizard displayed on the PC screen. The default language of the Wizard is English but it can correspond to your language version of Windows. The installation may take several minutes. Click on "Finish" to complete the installation (see Fig. 23).

After the successful programs installation, a new Multi-Di@g program group is formed (see Fig. 24), or the group already formed by another program is completed and a Multi-Di@g Portal icon (see Fig. 25) appears on the desktop of the screen

4.2.1

PROGRAM START UP AND CONFIGURATION

To start the program up, click on the Multi-Di@g Portal icon on the monitor desktop (see Fig. 25) or on the MultiDi@g Portal option from the Start\Programs program group (see Fig. 24). After the initialisation screens, basic screen appears (see Fig. 26)

Control program is intuitive and makes use of custom Windows operating system.

Users manual The manual for application is displayed. In case the currently selected language is not available English version of the document is used. Application configuration Setting of basic configuration of installed applications, (like language version, etc.)

Keyboard on the display Allows to display the Windows virtual keyboard on the screen which can be controlled with the mouse. The user can fully edit and enter the data and perform other tasks (call help files, local menus, set options, etc.) even with touch-screen. All keys included special ones are supported Note: The virtual keyboard is part of the operating system which is installed in default configuration. If it is not available in your computer ask the computer administrator for help. Website of Multi-Di@g Runs the default Windows Internet browser and connects to Multi-Di@g pages. Downloading of updates is possible. Report printing of Multi-Di@g Allows to see the list of available reports from Multi-Di@g diagnostic sessions with the possibility to print the selected items. E-mail (Help Me) The Windows default e-mail client is run allowing to send a message to program support group. The address and subject are predefined. Default page (HOME) Basic (home) page of the portal is displayed. (Homepage) Exit (Cancel) Multi-Di@g Portal is closed or currently running task is terminated.

4.2.5

APPLICATIONS CONFIGURATION

Before you can fully use the set of program a couple of parameters should be configured (see Fig. 28). Click the button (pos.2, Fig. 27) and the configuration screen appears (see Fig. 28). An example of selecting the application language is provided in Fig. 29.

b) The location of diagnostic plug on vehicle can be found with the help of information available after pressing the button with appropriate icon (pos. 3, Fig. 33), type of the connector plug is shown as well as location (see Fig. 34).

c) The VCI should be connected into the vehicle diagnostic plug, the desired ECU type selected (Fig. 35) and finally the diagnostics itself started (Fig. 36).

MULTI-DI@G DOC INSTALLATION

Multi-Di@g Doc is not possible install on the windows 9x/Me If you install the program on the computer with Windows 2000/XP/Vista operation system, log in as a system administrator. Select the Multi-Di@g Doc (Install) option (see Fig. 37) from the menu. Installation is intuitive you will follow the Installation Wizard displayed on the PC screen. The default language of the Wizard is English but it can correspond to your language version of Windows. The installation may take several minutes. Click on "Finish" to complete the installation (see Fig. 41).

To display the manual or a leaflet, you must have the Acrobat Reader program installed on your PC. If it is not installed on your PC, you can install it by selecting the Acrobat Reader option (you shall agree with Adobe license conditions). This program is free and you can have its English version when selecting the programs option on your CD.

4.4

MULTI-DI@G SCOPE INSTALLATION AND CONFIGURATION

CAUTION! The Multi-Di@g Scope measuring system including all accessories can be only in used and connected to the electrical system of the diagnosed motor vehicle. ! Do not use for the mains of 230V A/C ! Multi-Di@g Diagnostic program is not possible install on the windows 9x/Me If you install the program on the computer with Windows 2000/XP/Vista operation system, log in as a system administrator. Select the Multi-Di@g Scope (Install) option (see Fig. 42) from the menu. Installation is intuitive you will follow the Installation Wizard displayed on the PC screen. The default language of the Wizard is English but it can correspond to your language version of Windows. The installation may take several seconds. Click on "Finish" to complete the installation (see Fig. 45).

Note: For a change of port which you want to use on your computer, run the Multi-Di@g Scope configuration program from Start menu Programs Multi-Di@g and select desired port (see Fig. 53).

4.4.1 1. 2. 3.

INSTALLATION OF THE USB-RS323 CONVERTER Initiation of the converter installation is conditioned by previous successful Multi-Di@g Scope installation. Connect the converter to the PC (insert it into an arbitrary free USB connector) The device has been detected, see Fig. 48.

The hardware installation is straightforward and is guided by the installation wizard on the PC screen.

Using Next button the drivers will be installed and configured. The warning message follows (Windows XP):

Note: Windows XP warning message informs, that the driver did not undergo the Microsoft certification procedure. The message appears several times within the installation procedure and can be ignored.

Explanation! The new hardware wizard is run several times during installation (Fig. 48). Follow the same procedure until the hardware is properly installed and ready to use. 6. Launch the configuration utility Multi-Diag Scope configuration (see Fig. 54).

4.4.2

PROGRAM AUTO UPDATE

When the program is started up and the initialization window is displayed (see Fig. 55), the system automatically verifies which program versions are in the computer and in the Multi-Di@g Scope and Motortester modules. If there is a newer version in the computer (after the UpDate installation from the CD), the internal software (the so-called firmware) will be overwritten either directly in Multi-Di@g Scope or in the Motortester module. The indications are described in the following chapters 4.4.2.1 and 4.4.2.2. When the overwriting is finished, the Multi-Di@g Scope program is automatically started up. Note:

The overwriting takes a few tens of seconds or some minutes. In the case of problems with overwriting (the so-called stalling), we recommend switching off the power supply. After the reconnection and the program start-up everything will be reinitialized. 19

In the case of computer freezing we recommend restarting the computer.

4.4.2.1 AUTO UPDATE INDICATION ON THE SCREEN When the auto update is in progress in Multi-Di@g Scope or in the Motortester module, this state is indicated on the screen with the Loading firmware flashing message - see the cursor in Fig. 51.

4.4.2.2 AUTO UPDATE INDICATION ON MULTI-DI@G SCOPE When the auto update is in progress in Multi-Di@g Scope or in the Motortester module, this state is indicated with a flashing LED indicator on Multi-Di@g Scope (see the cursor in Fig. 51).

4.4.3

PROGRAM START UP

To start the program up, click on the Multi-Di@g Scope icon on the monitor desktop (see Fig. 54), or on the Multi-Di@g Scope option from the Start\Programs Multi-Di@g program group (see Fig. 53).

EROR MESSAGE WHEN MULTI-DI@G SCOPE IS DISCONNECTED

If an error message (see Fig. 56) is displayed after the program is started up, the cause shall be find out (power supply, communication port, license and so on) and then you shall try to restart the program up.

4.4.5

CONTROL OF INDIVIDUAL FUNCTIONS AND SETTING OF PARAMETERS

In all its functional modes, Multi-Di@g Scope is controlled by means of the mouse cursor and mouse leftbutton. In the case of the touch screen it is controlled with the control pencil by touching the respective symbol or by its moving on the screen.

4.4.6

BASIC SCREEN
The selection of individual Multi-Di@g Scope functional modes. By placing the mouse cursor on the relevant icon and left-clicking, Multi-Di@g Scope gets in the selected functional mode Motortester button. This mode requires motortester module connection
