The Letter J- The Truth about It!

Did you know that the letter is J is only a few hundred years old??? Well, it is! Its actually the newest addition to the English alphabet. Let me borrow your attention for just a few minutes, if you dont mind. Lets look into the history of this famous and widely used letter.

The letter J is the tenth letter of the alphabet used for the modern English language. It is also used in a number of other languages, including French, German, and Spanish. J is a relatively recent addition to the letters. The letter J evolved from the letter I, so the early development of the two letters is the same. Scholars believe the letter I evolved from an Egyptian hieroglyph (pictorial symbol) that depicted a hand. The Phoenician letter that can be traced to that hieroglyph is the tenth letter of the Phoenician alphabet, YOD. The Phoenicians used the letter to represent the beginning Y sound of YOD, which was their word for hand. When the Greeks adapted the Phoenician alphabet around 800 B.C., they used the letter, which they named iota, for the sound of the vowel that is much like the consonant Y. The Etruscans adopted the Greek alphabet about 700 B.C. and the Romans adopted the Etruscans alphabet in 650 B.C. Both peoples continued to use I in this way. In Europe, in the Middle Ages (A.D. 400s through the 1400s) scribes began writing a lengthened form of I at the end of a word. They used this form especially for a Roman Numeral, such as VII (the numeral for eight). After the invention of printing in the late 1400s, the longtailed I, which began to look like J was used at the beginning of a word, while an ordinary I was used in the middle. J began to be used for the consonant sound in France around about 1620, and the English printers soon followed this practice. But I and J were not considered to be separate letters until 1801, with the publication of William Perrys Royal Standard English Dictionary. Perrys dictionary was the first to alphabetize words separately under I and J.

What was my purpose in going into details about the history of the letter J? Hopefully to make you think. If the letter J did not come into full use until around the 17th Century, then we have a problem here. The Messiahs name is Jesus, right? Wrong! His name cannot be Jesus if the letter J is only a few hundred years old. Come on and think about it people! According to the timeline of the Scriptures, the Messiah walked this earth over 2000 years ago, so there is no way possible that His name can be Jesus. Furthermore, He is not a Jew. He came through the Tribe of Yahudah (Judah). He is an Israelite. How do you get Jew from I-S-R-A-E-L-I-T-E? People, the true name of the Mashiyach (Messiah) is Yahusha. He came in His Fathers Name which is Yahuah.
