ABSTRACT:
The TapeTrack Tape Management Framework is the Swiss Army Knife used by over 4000 enterprises around the world to manage their computer backup tapes. TapeTrack software is based upon the 5 Pillars of Tape Management; Asset Management, Chain of Custody, Library Management, Disaster Recovery and Quality Control and features native integration with mainframe and distributed tape management systems, integration with Microsoft Outlook and Iron Mountains SecureSync along with many time saving options such as drag-and-drop and cut-and-paste.
Introduction
Those charged with the management of computer backup tapes know all-towell the unique set of challenges that they face on a day-to-day basis. Tape has a long history of use in information technology, and despite rumors to the contrary, it is clearly a technology that is here to stay. Just as tape today is a distant relative to the 3420 Reel-to-Reel tape of the mainframe era, the tapes of the future will probably not even contain magnetic tape; just as the disks of the future will not actually be spinning disks. TapeTrack is built around the 5 Pillars of Tape Management: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Asset Management Chain of Custody Library Management Disaster Recovery Quality Control
These principles have guided the development of TapeTrack since our first release and continue to ensure that: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. You always know what tapes you have. You always know where they have been and who has touched them. You always know where they should be. You always know that you have the right tapes pre-identified and offsite in case you need them. You always know that your employees are following best practice in tape management.
TapeTrack has been constantly developed since 1998 and is now used by over 4000 enterprises around the world. It has been specifically designed for the challenges of today and is ready to meet the expectations of tomorrow. It brings us great pride to outline the features of our 2013 release and we hope our hard work brings with it your success in tape management.
Integration
TapeTrack provides a high level of integration with backup software, billing and chargeback systems and the systems of third-parties such as Iron Mountain. This integration ensures that TapeTrack is always up-to-date and that systems downstream from TapeTrack are also up-to-date.
Windows Integration
The TapeTrack Windows Name Space Extension allows you to view your tape assets from the Windows Shell so you dont have to launch TapeTrack or launch a web browser to view your tape assets. This intuitive interface allows you to see all of your tape assets, irrespective of their location, just as if they were files on your local PC.
