VI. SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION

A microwave link is a communications system that uses a beam of radio waves in the microwave frequency range to transmit information between two fixed locations on the earth. They are crucial to many forms of communication and impact a broad range of industries.

FOUR MAJOR ELEMENTS Transmitter o it produces a microwave signal that carries the information to be communicated. Transmission Line o this line carries the signal from the transmitter to the antenna and, at the receiving end of the link, from the antenna to the receiver. Antenna o it emits and receive microwave signals through the free space. Receiver

o The receiver must be capable of detecting very small amounts of

microwave energy, because the signal loses much of its strength on its journey.

The design of microwave radio systems involves engineering of the path to evaluate the effects of propagations on performance, development of a frequency allocation plan, and proper selection of radio and link components. This design process must ensure that outage requirements are met on a per link and system basis. The frequency allocation plan is based on four elements: the local frequency regulatory authority requirements, selected radio transmitter and receiver characteristics, antenna characteristics, and potential intersystem and intersystem RF interference.

In addition, designer must study different parameters in calculating path profile and path analysis because it is not easy as it is. Also be careful in choosing what type of antennas, towers, transmitter and receiver to be use.

VII. GLOSSARY
o Blackout fading - is rare compared to other types of fading, but when it takes place; its effects are radical and catastrophic. Also it is brought about by an anomalous atmospheric condition. o Earth Bulge - It refers to the circular segment of earth profile which blocks of long distance communications. o Fading - is the variation with time of the intensity or relative phase, or both, of any of the frequency components of a received radio signal due to changes in the characteristics of the propagation path with time. o Fresnel Zone - It is one of a (theoretically infinite) number of concentric ellipsoids which define volumes in the radiation pattern of a (usually) circular aperture. Fresnel zones result from diffraction by the circular aperture. o Line of sight - It refers to electro-magnetic radiation or acoustic wave propagation. Electromagnetic transmission includes light emissions traveling in a straight line. The rays or waves may be diffracted, refracted, reflected, or absorbed by atmosphere and obstructions with material and generally cannot travel over the horizon or behind obstacles. o Multipath Fading -It is the most common type of fading encountered. o Path Profile - A graphic representation of the physical features of a propagation path in the vertical plane containing both endpoints of the path, showing the surface of the Earth and including trees, buildings, and other features that may obstruct the radio signal.
