For extra credit we were asked to do a 5 page essay on our favorite physicist. A physicist is a scientist who does research in physics. Physicists study a wide range of physical phenomena in many branches of physics spanning all length scales: In the beginning I was baffled because there are so many Great physicists out in the world you have Isaac Newton a revolutionary figure in the development of modern physics as an exact science. Galileo Galilei who discovered the uniform acceleration rate of falling bodies, improved on the refracting telescope. Even Thomas Young Who established the principle of interference of light, resurrected the century-old theory that light is a wave. But out of all those great physicist and there great innovations None of them compare to those of My ALL TIME Favorite physicist Professor Albert Einstein ! (I Bet You thought I was going to say Ms. Nwankwo? I Would but she RATCHET! Lol)

Albert Einstein is one of the most celebrated scientists in history. His work helped bring a new era of discovery and knowledge to the area of physics. However he is not just known for his famous equations on the conservation of matter and energy or his theory of relativity. Throughout his career he became the Edison of physics helping to contribute many important pieces of knowledge to our understanding of the universe and how it works. Without Albert Einsteins inventions and discoveries we would be further behind in physics than we are right now.

Einstein was born at Ulm, in Wrttemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. Six weeks later the family moved to Munich, where he later on began his schooling at the Luitpold Gymnasium. Later, they moved to Italy and Albert continued his education at Aarau, Switzerland and in 1896 he entered the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School in Zurich to be trained as a teacher in physics and mathematics. In 1901, the year he gained his diploma, he acquired Swiss citizenship and, as he was unable to find a teaching post, he accepted a position as technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office. In 1905 he obtained his doctor's degree.

In 1933, he joined the staff of the newly created Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. He accepted this position for life, living there until his death. Einstein is probably familiar to most people for his mathematical equation about the nature of energy, E = MC2. The first major discovery he made upon getting his doctorate was a formula that accurately described Brownian motion. Brownian motion for the uninitiated in physics is the movement of particles in a fluid. A fluid in this case can be either a liquid or gas. The concept that the motion of particles can be explained by interaction on the molecular and atomic level has been around since ancient times, but Albert Einstein was the first to develop an accurate mathematical model for this movement. The most amazing fact was that at one point it was considered wrong. It was only later with more experimentation that Einstein proved correct. This is a trend that would follow with his other discoveries and theories.

The next discovery was doosie helping to build the foundation of quantum physics. This was the discovery of the quantum nature of the photoelectric effect. The phenomenon had already been observed by other scientist. Light when it struck certain types of photosensitive materials caused them to emit electrons. According to the classical theory it was believed that light was a wave, pure energy. If this was so the intensity of the light would increase the energy of the electrons being released. However, increased intensity of light only increased the number of released electrons not the energy. Something did not fit. Einstein proposed that light was not just a wave but a series of particles with a specific energy. This was the first concrete proposal a photon particle. Like his other proposals it would not be until an experiment ten years later that he would be proven light. For this discovery he got the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1921.

Then , Albert Einstein wrote a paper with a new understanding of the structure of light. He argued that light can act as though it consists of discrete, independent particles of energy, in some ways like the particles of a gas. A few years before, Max Planck's work had contained the first suggestion of discreteness in energy, but Einstein went far beyond this. His revolutionary proposal seemed to contradict the universally accepted theory that light consists of smoothly oscillating electromagnetic waves. But Einstein showed that light quanta, as he called the particles of energy, could help to explain phenomena being studied by experimental physicists. For example, he made clear how light ejects electrons from metals.

There was a well-known kinetic energy theory that explained heat as an effect of the ceaseless motion of atoms; Einstein proposed a way to put the theory to a new and crucial experimental test. If tiny but visible particles were suspended in a liquid, he said, the irregular bombardment by the liquid's invisible atoms should cause the suspended particles to carry out a random jittering dance. One should be able to observe this through a microscope, and if the predicted motion were not seen, the whole kinetic theory would be in grave danger. But just such a random dance of microscopic particles had long since been observed. Now the motion was explained in detail. Albert Einstein had reinforced the kinetic theory, and he had created a powerful new tool for studying the movement of atoms. But all good things come to an end just like a good weave. On the 18th of April 1955 Albert Einstein died in Princeton Hospital, New Jersey. He was 76 years old. One of the chief architects of the modern era, there are few other individuals whose impact on human culture has been so significant. Fifty years earlier, in 1905, during what would later be referred to as his miracle year, Einstein published a series of papers that sparked a revolution in physics, laying the groundwork for twenty years of remarkable work. Papers that not only revolutionized the field in which he specialized, they revolutionized the world around him ` Einstein became almost as well known for the depth and breadth of his intellect as for any specific idea that emerged from it. For the first time in history there was a mass consciousness that spanned the globe. It had started with news via wire telegraph, then came cinema, radio and by the time of Einsteins death, network television mass media had been born and with it mass consciousness. And although at the time few individuals understood the
