Three Attachments on the Huruf al-Jarr Assalamu 'alaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh The Huruf al-Jarr comprises an important area

in the study of Nahw. In the al-Ajurrumiyyah the Huruf al-Jarr (or al-Khafd) are listed on two occasions and for two different reasons: (a) as instruments/operators that are specific to the Ism, serving as way to identify it, and (b) as the first of three places of al-Jarr, the second being the al-Mudaf ilayh, and the third the taabi' (or follower) of something majrur. In some of the basic commentaries of the al-Ajurrumiyyah you get to go into some of the meanings of these particles. Still, that is far from being the full story. Every harf jarr necessitates a majrur, and every primary harf jarr necessitates a muta'allaq (bihi) i.e. a verb or verb-like noun to which it must be linked/connected. Now, whenever you have two or more elements involved in a construct such as this one: muta'allaq + harf jarr + majrur. That makes the harf jarr + majrur the muta'alliq (that which is connected/linked to the muta'allaq bihi), you have the following things that can happen: (a) some of the elements in the construct/equation can be made to precede other elements that are originally prior, (b) some of the elements can be dropped whether necessarily or optionally. The following is a list of things that you may want to consider when studying the huruf aljarr: )( )( "" This is from the first attachment. I have also shown on this attachment how Ibn Malik treats some of these aspects of the huruf al-jarr in his highly famed al-Alfiyyah. The second attachment deals with the 20 or so huruf al-jarr and all their possible meanings plus examples as based on the Mughni al-Labib. The third attachment deals with the different types of noun that occurs as the majrur or prepositional object/complement of different types of huruf al-jarr as based on the Sharh Shudhur al-Dhahab both by Ibn Hisham (i.e. the matn and the sharh). I hope you find th attachments useful. Please remember me and my family in your du'as.
