Second amendment: Does the second amendment really protect us?

The second amendment to the United states Constitution that, A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. The second amendment was created during Americas birth in 1776 and showed the colonist need for self-defense against the British. The Forefathers made this amendment because they wanted to prevent the British government from getting the upper hand over the laws and rules for the colonists. In some perspectives the amendment grants individuals to own guns. They also believe that the right to own a gun is more critical than ever because of violence, dangerous technology, depravity, responsibility and more. In another perspective is that it allows Americans to have their own Militia and own guns, but are not allowed to have guns on their own. Carolyn thinks that the amendment says you are allowed to create a militia and in the group you can have guns and that it doesnt allow individual sale. The fight and confusion over gun control includes whether or not Americans have the right to own guns, which guns they should be allowed to own, how they should be allowed to use their guns, and what restrictions, if any, should be placed on gun ownership. Claudia Crase says, Owning guns in the U.S is legal and is a constitutionally protected right and I agree with it, but what I dont agree is what types of guns can be owned by private citizens.

Do guns keep Americans safe or endanger them?

It has been showed that countries with high gun ownership have less murder and gun violence.Manny belive murderers or criminals do not likely attack if they know the victim is armed. Also it has been found that Countries that have stricter laws for gun ownership have more crime. For example, in 1997 England banned handguns from permit holders and the murder rate increased because criminals could still get guns. In the 1600s there was

a law in the U.S. that each house should have a gun, at that time there was little murder rate. When they canceled the law in the 1840s the murder rate increased. But, guns can also danger Americans. Guns are used to kill nearly 30,000 people a year in America, that is 83 people a day. Guns have killed more Americans than Americans have been killed in Iraq. Guns are a huge problem because murderers or criminals can get them legally or illegally.

Does gun ownership cause or prevent violence?

Guns can cause tons of violence and deaths. Guns cause so much violence that shooting sprees have become so common that most shootings dont make it to the news. Guns/Firearms have been the main cause of suicide, homicide, and accidents leading to deaths.Violence is out of control. Guns are a major cause. They all should be banned, the sooner the better. says David Kopel. But, guns can also help us prevent violence. When law abiding citizens can carry guns they are in excellent position to prevent violence. Areas with more guns a criminal is less likely to target because they may be afraid to face an armed person. Guns are needed in some situations like when a shooting might happen you need the police or an armed citizen to help stop the shooter. But, most police arrive after the crime so you would be safer if you were armed and could stop the criminal.

Does gun control prevent or allow school shooting?

Gun control allows school shootings to happen. School shootings could be prevented if more Americans were allowed to carry guns. In some cases victims at a school were able to fight of the criminal/murderer with a gun. McGrath a retired history professor says the best way to prevent school shootings and other crimes is to allow Americans to carry guns in selfdefense. A lot of times school shootings have been prevented by teachers threatening the

criminal/Murderer with a gun. But, because of laws restricting guns at school teachers have not been able to save the kids in time. Some schools have tried to allow guns on campus so that students and teachers feel safe at school. Gun control can prevent school shootings. If gun control was stricter then there might be no gun shootings because no one could access guns. Also banning and limiting the number of guns sold.

What is the cause of gun violence in America?

The number and availability of guns in the U.S. has helped build a culture in which shootings are so common, small ones are ignored by national news. Acts of violence have become an almost weekly feature of America. It has been shown that at least 57 million Americans own 283 million guns- that is a gun for almost every American. Another problem is that 40% of gun sales are legal but the seller is not required to check

personal backgrounds for criminal record, mental illness, and more, making it easy for anyone to get guns. Also over 1.7 million guns were stolen, even if the owners bought the gun legally it is now in the hand of a criminal. These are reasons why Americans are struggling to decide on gun control laws.
