Generation 1
1. William Knibbs-1[1] was born on 1800 in England[1, 2, 3]. He married Mary F. Nibbs. She was born on
1790 in England[2, 3].
Notes for William Knibbs:
Almost all the records I have found give conflicting ages on William and Mary. I have taken the
information from the St. John Ship record to be correct. My guess only. William Knibbs, age 33, his
wife, Mary F. Knibbs, age 43, their children Alfred, age 12, Caroline, age 9 and John, age 8 sailed
from Liverpool, England in 1833 aboard the St. John and arrived in New York City on August 22,
1833. William was a laborer. There was also a Joseph on the same ship, age 21. I have not
discovered if he is related or not. The 1855 Census, Town of Frankfort said William had lived in
Frankfort for 20 years and that he was not a naturalized citizen. He was a farmer. The 1835 Census,
Town of Frankfort said there were 4 males and 3 females in the household, one unmarried male and
3 unmarried females. The 1840 Census (Litchfield) said his name was Knibbs and there was one
male between 30-40, 1 female between 30-40 and one female under 5. The land records show Alfred
and William Nibbs & their wives sold property in 1864. Also showed William Nibbs selling property to
Alfred for $1. in 1850.

Obituary - Herkimer Telegram February 14, 1919
At the home on Renwick Avenue, yesterday afternoon, Mrs. William Rowell
laid down the cross of long suffering under a complicated ailment and
