CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION (E105)

For today, we had an experiment involving the term friction. Friction has something to do with the opposing force on an object. Defining friction in Physics, it is a force that is between surfaces that opposes sliding motion. If there is relative sliding at the surface, the friction force always acts in the opposite direction of its motion. The objectives for the experiment is simple. It is to determine the coefficient of friction () between contact surfaces as one body moves with uniform motion and to establish the relationship between the angle of repose ( ) and . The percentage errors were basically made by human errors on the experiment. Based upon the different factors, such as the time of fall of the weight to the string attached, is the unresponsive and unstableness of the table. Which is one factor that the moment the wooden block moves in the horizontal platform, it theoretically means that the cart is not stable and hence, finding a proper location is a must. We have come up to an idea that during the experiment, as we conduct part A and part B, an observation has made and that we are enlightened that the values and the formula presented have resemblance to each other. When the surfaces slide relative to one another, the friction force is proportional to the normal force and is independent of both the contact area and the speed of sliding. In simple words, it is just getting the coefficient of friction (). But in the part wherein the surface is inclined to a certain amount of height, the is just the tangent of the angle of repose or angle of inclination. For those fellow students who are to take up PHY10L for the upcoming terms, we, group 3A/A2 under Prof. Ryan Cabrera recommends you all to do the following: (a) Find a location wherein there is a stable platform. For convenience, put the wooden block in a dynamic cart at the center and observe if the wooden block is moving or not, if its moving; choose another location to perform the experiment. (b) Have at least one person who will guide the slotted weight being brought down as the wooden cart gains acceleration. (c) The results should vary in the added weights to the block. Make sure that the values in the data were the added values which includes the weights. (d) Observe valuable performance. If teamwork is acquired, then the experiment will turn out well.
