operations. Not more than 50 No. in one tray.

NOTE : Thermo coal tray used for handling /carrying ammunition

should not be handled independently, always keep them in a light
wooden cases.

ELECTRIC DETONATOR ASSEMBLY IN SAFETY DEVICE

7. Receive Electric Detonator duly passed in felt lined FQ 396 container

and keep at the assigned place. Not more than 50 No. in one
container.

8. Receive safety device assemblies in trays from Room no.1 & keep at
the assigned place. Not more than 50 No. in one tray.

9. Check proper working of the assembly & resistance checking fixture.

10. Ensure that the tools & equipments are properly earthed.

11. Take a safety device assembly & place in the fixture.

12. Take one electric detonator with the help of tweezers provided & clamp
in the pneumatic collet by the safety switch provided.

13. Operate the switch & measure resistance of the elect. detonator
between 60 ohm to 120 ohm.

14. Operate the pneumatic switches provided, so that the arm in which
the safety device is placed & one elect. detonator is fitted will move
over to the fixture in which the safety device is placed & one elect.
detonator will gently fall in to the cavity of safety device.

15. Replace the pneumatic switch, so that the arm will go back to the
original position.
3

16. Slightly lift the fixture and screw down the screw provided on the
safety device to secure the electric detonator firmly.

17. If electric detonator does not fit properly then it will be pressed by
special tool.

18. Take out the safety device from the fixture and apply one drop of
Varnish over the screw head by means of brush.

19. Check the assembly visually & keep in the tray provided.

20. Pass on the safety device filled for further assembly.

ASSEMBLY OF BASE SCREW AND SAFETY DEVICE :

21. Receive safety device assembled with base screw assembly, not more
than 50 Nos. in plastic tray and keep it at the assigned place.

22. Receive components & freshly prepared cement R.D 1286 and keep at
the assigned place.

23. Take a fuze base assembled with 'o' ring and place on the "filling"
tool provided.

24. Take one base screw assembly fitted with safety device & clamp in the
ring provided.

25. Clamp the above unit into the collet provided by operating the
pneumatic switch.

26. Position the electrical contact of the base screw assembly over the
safety device properly, ensure proper contacts.

27. Operate the pneumatic switch & read the resistance between 60 K
ohms and 350 K ohms and release the switches. Keep the pass &
rejected items/units in separate trays.

28. Disconnect the electrical contact from the unit.

29. Take a sliding washer and assemble on the safety device.

4

30. Take 3 nos. of spring washers and set it properly and place over the
sliding washers on the safety device in base screw assembly.
Assemble plastic cap & 'O' ring small duly greased.

31. Take the fuze base from the filling tool & apply a thin coat of R.D
1286 on the threads of the fuze base.

32. Screw down the fuze base into the base screw assembly fully home by
hand and finally tighten it with the pneumatic torque wrench/spanner.
Ensure wrench is set at torque of 5 + 1kg/cm .

33. Release the pneumatic collet & take out the fuzes from the collect and
keep in the tray provided. Not more than 25 No.

34. Convey the trays containing filled fuzes to room no. 1 for packing &
shifting to X-RAY or Magazine.

35. The Bldg. will be swept frequently and the sweepings, so collected
will be deposited under water in the waste explosive container kept
in the corridor duly covered with lid. Waste explosive so collected
shall be disposed off as per the instructions of the Head of section.

36. Rejected filled components will be placed under oil in respective

containers & disposed off by sending to Explosive Disposal Ground
(EDG) on weekly basis.

(i) SPECIAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ( Do's )

37. All the equipments must be statically earthed. The static earthing
connections should be checked once in a month and record maintained

38. Tools, equipments & other objects coming into contact with electric
detonater shall be earthed.

39. The assembly & resistance checking operations must be carried out
behind the shield.

40. The floor shall be swept/wiped with water daily.

5

41. Electric detonators never to be touched with the fingers.

42. Not more than 100 nos. electric detonator to be kept in front of
operator

43. Relative humidity of room should be maintained

between (55 + 5) % and recorded after every 2 hours.

(i) SPECIAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ( Do's )

44. The electric detonator being spark gap type and extremely sensitive,
utmost care must be taken while handling & carrying out assembly
operations.

about pass and rejected quantity.

47. L.P.testing of the building should be carried out periodically

once in six months and record maintained.

(ii) SPECIAL HAZARDS TO BE AVOIDED ( Don'ts)

48. Detonaters are extremely sensitive to static charge, shock and friction
should be avoided, and handled with extreme care. Cartons/carrying
box with detonators must not be dropped, dragged or sharply put
down but should be lifted clear from place to place.

49. Do not keep more than 200 Nos filled safety devices in front of
detonator assembly operation at any time.
