Abstract -- The motivation for this work is the need of a study systematic of the power static converters with power systems on weak grids, has a tremendous importance to increase availability, reliability, productivity, efficiency, reduce maintenance, operating costs in Industrial applications(SAG, Convoyers,) and requiring an intimate understanding of utility grid operation, power electronics, machines, control, faults and protection systems. This work presents a novel model for diagnosis fault , approach for a 72 pulse cycloconverter drive system, extended to neutral point clamped back to Back. The proposed strategy is mainly focused in stability of voltage, power, frequency of grid and how their oscillations originated fault in the semiconductors of the converters or power system. To probe the fault diagnosis strategy and its behaviour, the algorithm was implemented on DSPACE DS1103 for a 5KVA laboratory prototype of a cycloconverter system, simulations of the power systems in Digsilent and Study a fault case of phase open effects of a feeder 23KV affecting medium power AC drive systems.
