Food Technology:
Food technology is the science of the application of Physics, Chemistry, Micro-biology and Engineering on the foods for their better and good quality production and their increment in shelf-life for long period usage. Food technology has brought about a revolutionary change and made it possible for the un-seasonal food commodities to be used all the year round. Food industries also contribute in the stabilization of the countrys economy by exporting the food commodities around the globe. There are numerous food industries that have emerged as a result of the development of food science & technology ranging from cottage to various large scale enterprises and engages a large number of labour thus becoming a source of employment in the country. Therefore the importance of food science and technology cannot be denied as it plays a major role in the development of the economy of any country.
Source of Employment
By the installation of many different food industries, they have become a source of employment for a large number of people and thus food industry ranks as second major industry to engage a large number of labour and has helped to reduce un-employment in the country.
Many other allied industries producing ingredients, equipments, packaging material, chemicals etc have been set up which aid to provide raw materials to food processing industries. These allied industries are also a source of employment and indirectly bring economic gains to the country.
