Foundation Portfolio G321 The Brief 2012/13 - AUDIO Preliminary Exercise Studio Interview In groups of 3 or 4 produce a 30 40 second introduction

on to a radio show for Oldham Community Radio 99.7FM to include: Show jingle (own composition or from a copyright-free source) Presenter introduction Greeting a studio guest who is an up and coming local comedian (fictional) Response from studio guest Archive sound clip of comedians performance The introduction must show clear understanding of sound editing and mixing and conventions of radio. This exercise is worth 15 marks - if you fulfil the criteria above and the work is broadcast quality you will achieve 15 marks. There are no marks in between; failure to meet the criteria will result in obtaining zero marks. Main Task Radio News Bulletin In your group, produce a 5 minute news bulletin for Oldham Community Radio suitable for broadcast on a weekday morning between 7am 9am. The bulletin must include: Title music (own composition or from a copyright-free source) Studio based presenter One hard news story to include a specialist reporter and formal recorded interview (approx 2mins) One soft news story to include an outside broadcast and/or formal interview and voxpops (approx 2 mins) An off the wall or sports story to include outside broadcast and voxpops Appropriate sound effects and structure NB: Your stories can contain other elements if desired, but the criteria above MUST be fulfilled.

You must research and select appropriate hard /soft news topics to broadcast from the following list: Topical issues and how these relate to the community/region Community Crime Education Human Interest Regional Entertainment & Events The bulletin must show evidence of clear voice recording in a studio setting, clear voice recording on location and outdoor setting, your language and address must be appropriate for the target audience and host station. You must show that you are able to integrate recorded material as appropriate and can edit and mix sound to broadcast standard. News Stories, data and interviewees must be ACTUAL (not made up). This task is worth 45 marks You will also be assessed on your ability to work effectively as part of a team and to strict deadlines. THIS WILL BE CONTINUALLY ASSESSED IN CLASS BY YOUR TUTORS. Research, Planning and Evaluation This is an individual piece of coursework presented in the form of a blog and must include multi-media links and demonstrate creativity in this medium, there must be original images; any found images and secondary content must be referenced and you must use own composition or copyrightfree music only. It is marked on a set of criteria which include:

research into similar products and potential target audiences organisation and planning the production scripts, running orders, interview and vox pops questions Constructing the Production Interviews, Studio Recording and Editing including technical decisions and revisions Care in the presentation of research and planning Time management Individual contribution to group task Skill in the use of ICT and digital technology

Ability to communicate Research and Planning is worth 20 marks The Evaluation is worth 20 marks
