ABSTRACT
Computers have undergone huge developments and advancement since the days these were invented. The usual computer sets with number of accesories to make it functional are being replaced by much portable and space saving devices known as tablets. After desktop pc and laptops the latest in the line is the tablets. This report will explain the advancement in computer from desktop pc to small sized tablets. As the technology migrates continuously at fast speeds, tablets have penetrated into both home and business areas.The research for this report was concentrated in the field of tablet technology being applied in computer industry and so this application of tablets will be explained in greater detail as compared to other areas of applicability. Also explained is how society is being affected by these applications and what future applications may be in store.

INTRODUCTION
This report is about the tablets, its advancement and applications. The history of computer technology and how it works are important for understanding this report and so each has its own section within the report. How it compares to other computer systems and its uses will be discussed as well. The goal of this report is to explain the potentials of tablets. This report is intended for anyone who: uses tablet in their home, uses tablet for business activities, is curious about the applications, or is curious about how it works. Actually, this report is for everyone since tablets have become important part of our life. Tablets need no introduction. If youre into tech, youve no doubt been bombarded with ads for tablets. The worlds gone portability crazy what started as simple browsing on your dumb-phone has now transmogrified into an app crazy, band-width hungry, touch-enabled world of its own. What the iPhone started, has moved on to become the touchy-feely world of people going gaga over tablets. However, most people still believe that the iPad was the first tablet, and that the tooth fairy leaves money under your pillow as a reward for spitting out milk teeth. Were here to debunk one of these beliefs, and set you straight with knowledge that you should pass on. As with anything thats hot, just as it happened with mobile phones before this, everyones jumped on the tablet bandwagon. Now weve got tablets for as cheap as 6K, all the way up to the iPads of the world, and none of them can really hold a candle to the productivity that a laptop or desktop offers but thats not what youre really looking for when you think tablet are you? Theres just something to be said for the touch interface that Apple has popularised again, and even kids as young as 3 will vouch for that. Its the natural way of doing things maybe not editing Excel files, but certainly when browsing through pictures, or even playing casual games. Well also peek into the future, to see what the future holds, and examine some emerging technologies such as integrated projectors, flexible touch-screens and augmented reality.

LITERATURE SURVEY
This literature review provides a discussion of areas related to the qualitative research undertaken by me. The majority of these areas have been selected primarily in line with a need to position tablet industry within the wider context of historical, present and future considerations. Other areas were selected for discussion because of a need to highlight their importance and identify areas that require particular attention in order for tablets development to cater to the needs of particular audiences, an example of this in particular is the area of business persons. The idea to this project initially was gathered from Thinkdigit Magazines June 2012 issue titled Technology Reborn which include detailed study about tablets in a small handbook along with it titled Fasttrack to Tablets. A white paper titled Fujitsu Tablet PCs linked at

Other web articles that were studied are provided in the refrences column at the end of this synopsis. The major website that was referenced was www.thinkdigit.com and its digital magazine website en.wikipedia.org .

MERITS AND DEMERITS

MERITS

Usage in environments not conducive to a keyboard and mouse such standing or handling with a single hand. Lighter weight, lower power models can function similarly to dedicated Ebook readers like the Amazon Kindle. Touch environment makes navigation easier than conventional use of keyboard and mouse or touch pad in certain contexts such as image manipulation, musical, or mouse oriented games.

Digital painting and image editing are more precise and intuitive than painting or sketching with a mouse. The ability for easier or faster entry of diagrams, mathematical notations, and symbols. Some users find it more direct and pleasant to use a stylus, pen or finger to point and tap on objects, rather than use a mouse or touchpad, which are not directly connected to the pointer on screen.

Current tablets typically have longer battery life than laptops or netbooks.

DEMERITS Higher price convertible tablet computers can cost significantly more than non-tablet portable PCs although this premium has been predicted to fall. Input speed handwriting or typing on a virtual keyboard can be significantly slower than typing speed on a conventional keyboard, the latter of which can be as high as 50150 WPM; however, Slideit, Swype and other technologies are offered in an effort to narrow the gap. Some devices also support external keyboards Ergonomics a tablet computer, or a folded slate PC, does not provide room for a wrist rest. In addition, the user will need to move his or her arm constantly while writing. More knowledge of the programs is needed because information on e.g. icons isnt obtained by pointing at them.

APPLICATIONS
The following is a list of some areas where the tablet pc is being applied: Home Users Tablets are used at home for studying purposes, internet, telephone and gaming purposes. Business Employees There are far and wide benefits of tablets in the industrial sector. For one, it provides a portability factor along with interactive features like touch screen, wifi, bluetooth, email, gaming etc. Medical Applications Tablets also have several applications for measuring the heart rate, scheduling the diet plan etc. Entertainment Applications Tablets also support hd video recording as well as playing, image editing, music etc.

CONCLUSION
Looking at where it all began, and why it didnt really take off all those years ago. Obviously, it also covers Apple, and the iPad, because honestly, thats the benchmark we all use to decide on whether a device from another manufacturer is really that good. Apple might have had a stranglehold on the touch-based device market if it wasnt for the entrance of Googles offering. Thus we will cover Android and all the major devices that were made possible because of it which is also why were so spoiled for choice these days. what Android also did, since its open source, is open up the world of tablets to the little guy,
