BLACK IMMIGRATION NETWORKS

JUST IMMIGRATION REFORM PRINCIPLES

1. FAMILY REUNIFICATION
As a network we believe that family reunication must be the cornerstone of U.S. immigration policy. We believe that strong families make for successful communities. And all family members, despite immigration status, belong together. Recommendations: Visa processes should not hinder family members ability move in and out of the country. Provide an expedited path to citizenship for all children who arrive in the U.S. under the age of 18 Redene family to include extended family members

2. NO CRIMINALIZATION OF MIGRANTS

Our kinship recognizes that Black immigrants and African Americans continue to be disproportionally represented in all facets of the U.S. criminal justice system due to structural racism and endemic criminalization. The rapid growth of immigrant detention has been inuenced by the growing intersection between federal enforcement activities and immigration enforcement. We stand ardently against this as it continues to undermine our communities, and be used as a mechanism for social control and prot for corporations. Recommendations: Immediate halt to deportations and reinstate due process for all migrants Explicit ban on Racial Proling in all law and immigration enforcement End ICE ACCESS programs that enlist local law enforcement in immigration enforcement eorts

3. CITIZENSHIP FOR TEMPORARY STATUS HOLDERS

We believe that fair and just Immigration Reform must provide immigrants with temporary status as well as those who are undocumented with a permanent status in the form of U.S. Citizenship. Recommendations: Permanent status and a pathway to citizenship for temporary status holders including Temporary Protective Status (TPS), Deferred Enforced Departure (DED), Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) and others All recruited Professionals who should be on an expedited path to citizenship Temporary Worker Programs should include a pathway to citizenship for those who desire to live in U.S.

4. ECONOMIC JUSTICE

As a network comprised of African Americans and Black immigrants we recognize our communities have experienced systematic economic injustice and believe that immigration reform should not be further punitive. Just Immigration Reform can and should improve communities that are receiving immigrants, as well as those migrants who are seeking to make the U.S. their home. Recommendations: Ensure that nes and fees associated with new citizenship program are not prohibitive. Allot additional resources to communities that receive high numbers of permanent or long-term migrants Investing in resources for job training initiatives or entrepreneurial support programs that benet Black immigrants specically and the Black community in general should be a legislative priority

BIN is a national network of people and organizations serving Black Immigrant and African American communities who support fair and just immigration, as well as economic and social policies that benet these communities, and all communities of color, in order to create a more just and equitable society.
