Date: 4-Mar-2013

Problem 1: Three single-phase transformers, each rated 20 MVA, 120/11 kV are connected to form a 3- Y- bank with a Y-connected resistive load of 1 per phase on the low voltage side. Choose a base of 60 MVA (3-phase) and 207.85 kV (line-line) for the high voltage side. a. Specify the base quantities for the low voltage side, b. Draw per-unit equivalent circuit of the system c. Find the load currents through each phase. Problem 2: A 15000 kVA, 8.5 kV 3-phase generator has a reactance of 0.2pu. It is connected through a -Y step-up transformer to a transmission line having a total series reactance of 70 . At the load end of the transmission line is a Y-Y step-down transformer. Both transformer banks are composed of 1- transformers connected for 3- operation. Each of the three 1- transformers composing each bank is rated 6.667 kVA, 10/100 kV, with a reactance of 0.1pu. The load is drawing 10,000 kVA at 12.5 kV and 0.8 pf lagging: a. What are the 3- name plate ratings of the two transformers. b. Draw the one-line diagram and mark base kV and base impedance in three parts of the system. Choose a base of 10 kVA, 12.5 kV in the load circuit. c. Draw the single phase equivalent circuit showing all impedances in pu. d. Determine the voltage at the terminals of the generator. Problem 3: Three 1- transformers rated 11000V/400V, 50kVA are used to construct a 3- - transformer. Transformer primary is connected to an 11 kV (Line-Line) innite bus and the secondary is connected to a 3- balanced load supplying 75 kVA at unity power factor. See gure below.

a. Assuming that the parallel winding drawn in the diagram is representing the corresponding winding of the secondary, label the terminals for Va, Vb and Vc. Also determine the name-plate rating of the assembled 3- - transformer. b. What is the power owing through each transformer. c. Assuming VAN = (11000/ 3)<0, compute magnitude and angle (phasors) of Voltage across and Current through the three secondary windings i.e. Vab , Vbc , Vca and Iab , Ibc and Ica . Transformer 3 is now removed for repair as shown in gure below. The load remains connected as before.

Find the following: e. Change in VA , VB , VC , Va , Vb , Vc , Ia , Ib and Ic . f. Voltage across and current through the remaining two secondary windings. g. Power (P, Q and S) through the two remaining transformers. Problem 4: Consider the three-phase autotransformer shown in gure below. Find the positive and negative phase shifts for the given autotransformer.
