Total product demand and production are provided in US dollars at the manufacturers level, and total demand is also provided in terms of square meters of R-1 value, a unit of thermal resistance. Demand in US dollars is segmented by material in terms of: foamed plastics fiberglass mineral wool other materials such as cellulose and aerogels. Excluded from the scope of this report are foil and reflective insulation materials. Total demand in square meters of R-1 value is segmented by market in terms of: residential building construction nonresidential building construction industrial; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); and original equipment manufacture (OEM). Total demand, the various segments, and production are sized at five-year intervals for historical years 2006 and 2011 with a forecast to 2016. Forecasts emanate from the identification and analysis of pertinent statistical relationships and other historical trends/events as well as their expected progression/impact over the forecast period. Five-year compound annual growth rates (CAGRs) are provided to illustrate product trends between reported years and to facilitate comparisons among the various segments. Demand forecasts are the illustration of underlying trends extrapolated to a particular year. To recognize such trends and for the sake of brevity, CAGRs may be expressed as annual growth in the narrative of this report. However, as historical trends may demonstrate, demand in any given year, including a forecast year, may exhibit volatility and depart from the underlying trend. Demand in US dollars reflects local-currency inflation from period to period, including to the forecast year. Furthermore, US dollar values represent current, average-annual exchange rates between local currencies and the US dollar for the historical periods, including the base year. The forecast year, however, assumes the same exchange rate used for the base year.
