Family Flees From Cuba To Yonkers

By THEASA TIOHT Two Yonkers men, Heho and William Reluzco. are back after a fast trip to Cuba on a 33-foot lobster boat. The brothers left Cuba with 37 refugees on their boat and about 4,000 on the wharf screaming. "We are hungry, we want to leave." But on board were Helio's wife, Caridad. and daughter Amelia whom he had not *e*n since he left Havana in a hurry in March, 1962. William Reluzco brought back his wife's mother, sister and nephew. The Reluzcos, safe here now, quietly described their flight from Cuba. CARITUD RELUZCO The brothers flew from Yonkers to Miami to jola six other men and a woman for the 14hour trip from Key West on a borrowed boat. The trip back took 17^ hours in a rough sea. There were 46-sea-sick people huddled together in the rain on the deck. "It wasn't dangerous, but it was pretty uncomfortable," Helio said. He is the owner of Yonkers Fashion at 138 New Main St. When they entered Camarioca Port, Cuba, about 200 boats were already there. Most were lobster fishers, some bigger shrimp boats and a few pleasure craft. Cuban officials greeted them and took them to the resort beach of- Varadero. They they waited six days for their relatives to be rounded up. "The people don't have anything to eat, but we had, "Hello said. The authorities were trying to appear, kind.": The Reluzco brothers and their crew were housed in a. onceprivate mansion, now owned by the Cuban government. With them was a 22-year-old American fisherman who went along to see Havana and a Cuban woman who wanted to visit her sick mother. Neither achieved his objective. Both were confined to the Varadero Beach area.
