In hydraulic installations the used oil is exposed to extremely high stresses, e.g. by oxygen of air, condensation water and partly appearing high temperatures as well as abrasion and dust. This causesthe formation of ageing products or sludge in the system. An eventual clogging in piping and valves will disturb the correct function of the hydraulic system. To achieve a long lifetime of the hydraulic system, a thorough maintenance of the hydraulic oil filling is necessary. Thats why it is advisable to check the conditions of the hydraulic oil accordingly to the location of the hydraulic, e.g. humid surroundings, dusty operation, high oil temperature or radiant heat. At high water content a separation is necessary and at high content of unsolved substances a filtration is necessary. The oil change intervalls should be adapted to the circumstances of the hydraulic unit and the ambient conditions. Normally an oil change should be carried out every 2000 working hours. The condition for an optimal function of the hydraulic unit is the thorough choice of tested and approved hydraulic oils. We recommend the use of following evident oil brands, which fulfils the minimum requirement of hydraulic oils type HLP acc. to DIN 51524 part 2.

MONTAGEHINWEISE
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Preparing for assembly Ensure that the plant is clean! Environment: Units, connections and equipment must be thoroughly cleaned and kept clean. Welded pipes must be treated with pickling solution or rinsed out. Hydraulic fluids: No contamination from the environment must be allowed to get into the reservoirs. Attention must therefore be paid to dirt and moisture. The hydraulic fluid must always be poured into the tank via a filter, and preferably via a system filter or mobile filter station with fine filters. When using painted reservoirs, a careful check must be carried out to make sure that the hydraulic fluid is compatible with the paint! Components from stock: Resinous deposits may form if components have been stored without having been filled or treated with corrosion inhibitor. In this case, remove the deposits with fat solvent and recoat with a film of grease.
Check that all parts required for assembly are present! Inspect for transport damage!
Carrying out assembly Use the lifting eyes and transport devices! To avoid transverse loads and tensions in the pipework and equipment, do not use force. Make sure that the pipes are firmly fixed! Only conventional screwed connection and sealing systems or CU seals must be used for hydraulic-fluid pipework: under no circumstances use hemp and putty. These will contaminate the plant and cause it to malfunction. The installation instructions of the screwedconnection manufacturer must be adhered to in order to avoid external leaks. We recommend using screwed connections with elastic seals. Seamless precision steel pipes in accordance with DIN 2391/Parts 1 and 2 must be used for pipework. Make sure that hoses are correctly laid, chafing and impact against the hoses must be avoided. When selecting hydraulic fluids (DIN 24318, 51524, ISO VG 51519; for fire-resistant fluids DIN 24317) the following must be observed: Viscosity of the hydraulic fluid Seals used for the components fitted Operating temperature range An Oil recommendations sheet is available to help you make the selection.
INBETRIEBNAHME
COMMISSIONING
Commissioning and operational checks can be started when the plant has been properly assembled.
Preparing for a test run Carry out a general inspection for transport damage and contamination Has the tank been cleaned? Have all the pipes been cleaned and are they neatly installed? Have all screwed fittings and flanges been tightened up? Have all the pipes and units been connected correctly according to the installation drawings and circuit diagrams? Have the accumulators been provided with nitrogen filling? It is advisable to make a note of preliminary gas pressure on the accumulator itself (for example, using an adhesive label) as well as on the circuit diagram to make it easier to carry out any possible future comparison checks. Are the seals or any possible coats of paint intended for internal surfaces resistant to the hydraulic fluid being used? In general, the internal surfaces of hydraulic fluid tanks are not painted. When using fire-resistant fluids, it is vital that a check be carried out to make sure that hydraulic equipment throughout the whole plant has been fitted with seals which are resistant to these fluids. This check must not be restricted to the valves and pumps but must be extended where necessary to the screwed fittings and flanges. Have the drive motor and the pump been installed correctly and are they correctly aligned? Has the drive motor been connected correctly? Have filters been used with the specified fineness? Have the filters been installed correctly in the direction of flow? Has the specified oil been filled to the upper oillevel mark?
Druck langsam erhhen.
Carrying out a test run Surplus personnel must leave the danger area during the test run! Only personnel from the machine manufacturer and, if necessary, maintenance and operating staff should be present. Open the shut-off valves fully! Is the direction of rotation of the drive motor the same as that specified for the pump? Switch on briefly and check! Check the position of the directional control valves and, if necessary, move it to the correct position. Move the spool valve to circulation. Open the pump suction (inlet) valve of the pump and, if necessary, fill the pump case with oil. If there is a control pump, start this up. If possible, start using the installed controller otherwise start with the full displacement volume. In the case of combustion motors, run at idling speed. Start the pump, run from zero and listen for noises. Rotate pump a little (approx. 5). If possible, start using the installed controller otherwise start with the full displacement volume. In the case of combustion motors, run at idling speed. Vent plant by carefully slackening the top screwed joint or bleed screws. Venting is ensured when there is no oil foam in the tanks, no jerky movements at the actuator and no abnormal noises. After filling, screw down the threaded joints again tightly.
Flush out the plant, if possible after briefly closing the actuator. Flush until the filters remain clean and then check the filters. Check plant operation under no-load conditions while, if possible, running it manually; cold-test the electro-hydraulic controller. After reaching operating temperature check the plant under load. Slowly increase the pressure. Monitor control and measuring equipment. Pay particular attention to unusual noises. Monitor oil level and top-up as necessary.
Check the pressure relief valves setting by putting the plant under load or slowing it down. Check for leaks Switch off drive Re-tighten all screwed joints even if they are not leaking. Warning! Only re-tighten while the plant is not under pressure! Check the oil level Check that the plant is fully operational. Compare the measured values with the permitted or required values in the specifications (pressure, speed, settings on the other control equipment). Jerky movements indicate that air is still trapped in the system. Certain forms of trapped air can be removed by brief rotations of the pump in one or both directions with the actuator under load or decelerated. The plant is fully vented when all functions perform smoothly and run true and the surface of the oil is free from foam. According to experience, all foam should have disappeared one hour after starting at least. Monitor the temperature. In order to protect the hydraulic fluid, the maximum temperature recommended by the hydraulic fluid manufacturer should not, if possible, be constant exceeded. It is advisable to maintain a constant oil temperature ( 5 C) to ensure constant response characteristics for the plant. Switch off the drive Remove filter elements (auxiliary and main flow filter) and examine for residues. If their condition requires it, filter elements must be cleaned in an ultrasound bath. Paper cartridges must only be exchanged for new ones. If there is further contamination, additional flushing will be necessary in order to prevent premature failure of the plant components. Record all adjustments carried out in an acceptance report.
WARTUNG
MAINTENANCE
During commissioning, it is always advisable to start a maintenance log book which can be continued later by the maintenance staff. It is possible to establish in this book what time intervals should elapse between inspections of particular components.
Checking the hydraulic fluid level The level of hydraulic fluid must be monitored constantly during commissioning. After this, the level of hydraulic fluid must be monitored every day for a short time after commissioning and then every week. Exceeding the required hydraulic fluid level will result in an increase in operating temperature and an accumulation of air which may cause the pump to fail due to cavitation. Checking the filters The filters must be checked every 2-3 hours during commissioning and cleaned if necessary. After this, they should first be cleaned every day and then, after about a week, they should be cleaned as the need arises. Particular care must be exercised when maintaining the suction (inlet) filter and the filter must be accessible for this reason. After the running-in periodhas elapsed, suction filters must be checked at least once a week and cleaned if necessary. Operating temperature The operating temperature must be measured. An increase in temperature is an indication of increased friction and leakage. Avoidance of leaks in the pipe system Apart from the loss of oil, leaks mean danger to the equipment and the whole environment.
Checking the accumulator Accumulators must be checked at regular intervals for their initial pressure. During this process, the hydraulic fluid side of the accumulator must not of course be under pressure. In regard to this, see also Assembly, commissioning and maintenance of hydraulic plants with accumulator operation. Checking the main and control pressures
Main and control pressures must be checked every week. When re-adjustments are made, the individual pressures must be recorded in the maintenance log
R
The need for frequent pressure re-adjustment is indicative of problems such as wear at the pressure relief valve. Maintenance of hydraulic fluid The maintenance intervals between oil changes are mainly governed by the state of the oil (for example. whether there is water in the oil or whether the oil has significantly aged), the operating temperature and the fill volume. Under certain circumstances, the intervals between oil changes can be considerably increased by subjecting the oil to laboratory tests at the oil supplier and by oil maintenance. Oil changes should take place approximately every 1500-2000 operating hours. When carrying out an oil change, drain and refill the hydraulic fluid with the plant at ist operating temperature. WARNING! Very old hydraulic fluid cannot be improved by topping up with fresh hydraulic fluid. Ageing of the hydraulic fluid The following table gives information on the state of the hydraulic fluid by simple visual inspection. More accurate statements, however, can only be made following laboratory checks.
Important note: The pre-filling pressure changes with the temperature. A check should therefore always be carried out under the same temperature con-ditions. After filling or draining off nitrogen, wait until the temperature compensation has taken place before checking the gas pressure (approximately 5-10 minutes).

INSTALLATION
Location To achieve the greatest possible efficiency, fit the accumulator as close as possible to the consumer. Leave 200 mm clearance above the gas filling valve so that a testing and filling unit can be screwed on. Position
Preferably vertical (gas filling valve facing upwards). In the case of horizontal installation, there is a reduced accumulator discharge volume with bladder-type accumulators. The plate showing the pre-filling pressure must be visible. Access to the drainage screw on bladder-type accumulators must be kept free. A large accumulator should be fitted with clamps and brackets or fastening sets. Attachments of any type must never welded on! The fitting must be such that the accumulator cannot be torn out of his holder by the recoil in the event of any pipeline breakage at the fluid port or damage to the gas filling valve.
Connections Depending on the accumulator type, the liquid valve has a male thread or a female thread. Reductions or flanges can be supplied by us. If a special connecting piece is produced, ensure that the valve tappet cannot impact. It must also be ensured that the correct O-ring is used with the corresponding recess in this connecting piece. (A threaded recess is not sufficient!) When fitting a screw connection, a reduction or the block, hold the accumulator securely on the fluid valve using a spanner so that the fluid valve is not turned.
Installation
The following points must be noted in order to achieve perfect functioning: Install a non-return valve between the pump and the accumulator (prevents the fluid flowing back to the pump) In the system, a safety valve must be installed so that it constantly remains in contact with the accumulator It is recommended to install a shut-off and relief valve so that the hydraulic accumulator can be depressurized In the case of safety and shut-off blocks, all important functions such as shutting-off, relief, pressure limiting and the possibility of connecting the pressure gauge are combined in one single compact block
HINWEIS
NOTE
For systems which are fitted with a pressure accumulator, the operator must arrange an acceptance inspection by an approved expert (TV) before putting into operation (see Pressure Vessels Ordinance Article 9, Section 1). The appropriate national regulations must be observed outside Germany.
Montage, Inbetriebnahme und Wartung von Hydraulikventilen Assembly, commissioning and maintenance of hydraulic valves
03/2000
ALLGEMEINES
Vor der Inbetriebnahme von Hydraulikventilen sind die Hinweise folgender Datenbltter zu beachten: zugehriges Katalogblatt Deutsche Norm DIN 24346 ISO Norm ISO 4413
GENERAL
The information in the following data sheets must be observed before putting hydraulic valves into operation: the relevant catalogue page German Standard DIN 24346 ISO Standard DIN 24346
ANLAGENSPLUNG
SYSTEM FLUSHING
If the valve has an external port, it must be ensured that this port is also flushed. The volume of hydraulic fluid in the system should be flushed through the filter at least 150300 times. We obtain the flushing time guideline value from the following:
bis up to
V x 2,5 qV
t = Flushing time in hours V = Container volume in litres qV = Pump volumetric flow in l/min
R
The contamination level of the hydraulic fluid is decisive for the flushing time. For information, also see Filtration under Putting into operation. To achieve the necessary minimum purity, the system must be flushed for as long as necessary. This can only be done by way of constant monitoring using particle counter units. If you change over to special fluids which are not compatible or mixable with the previously used hydraulic fluids, significantly longer flushing times may be necessary. During flushing, all filters must be checked at regular intervals and the filter elements must be replaced if necessary.
EINBAU
R
INSTALLATION
Installation regulations Before the valve is fitted to the system, the type designation of the valve should be compared with the order data. The surface of the valve and of the connection plate must be dry and oil-free. The attachment surface must have a surface quality of R t max 4 m and a plainicty of 0.01 mm / 100 mm length. Fastening screws must correspond with the dimensions and strength class given on the catalogue page, and must be tightened with the defined torque. Cleanliness:
During unit installation for the surrounding area and the industrial valve The container must be sealed against external contamination Pipelines and containers must be cleaned before installation to remove dirt, cinder, Hot-bent or welded pipes must then be pickled, rinsed and oiled
Sealing agents such as hemp, glue or sealing tape are not permissible To prevent external leakages, follow the screw connection manufacturers installation instructions. We recommend using screw connections with elastic seals.
EINBAULAGE
INSTALLATION POSITION
Any, in the case of directional control valves preferably horizontal. Other installation positions can cause malfunctions or restrictions of the defined parameters in some valve configurations (e.g. without spring centring of the piston or with the solenoids hanging down).
INBETRIEBNAHME
BLEEDING
It is not necessary to bleed the valves. However, in order to ensure perfect functioning of the valves, avoid allowing the tank line to run dry (installation of a priming valve).
WARTUNG
MAINTENANCE
The valves are basically maintenance-free. Since seals are subject to natural wear and ageing, they must be replaced as required.
LAGERUNG
STORAGE
The valves must be stored in a dry, dust-free room which is free of corrosive agents and vapours. If the valves are stored for longer than 6 months, the housing must be filled with preservation oil and sealed.

FUNKTIONSBESCHREIBUNG
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The WE 6 AH directional control valve principally consists of a valve body (1), a control spool (5) with two centering springs (4) and either one or two operating solenoids (2 + 3), depending on the application. The three-position directional control valves are fitted with two solenoids and two springs. Two-position directional control valves have either one solenoid and one return spring or two solenoids and a detent assembly. The control spool (5) is shifted from its initial position into the required end position by use of the solenoids (2 + 3).This enables the required direction of flow, P to A or B. By de-energizing the solenoid the spool returns to the centre or offset position. The operating solenoids are DC solenoids. For AC supply the solenoids are provided with a rectifier, which is integrated directly into the connectors (6 + 7) or inside the coil. The connectors can be turned by 90. By loosening the nut (8) the solenoids can be turned by 360 or replaced without interfering with any seals of the valve. In the case of malfunction or power failure, the spool of the valve can be shifted by manual override (9). The basic surface treatment of the valve body (1) is phosphate coated and the solenoids (2 + 3) are zinc coated.

6. Wartung / Reparatur
2. Safety Devices
Current site regulations require the use of all or some of the following safety devices: Overpressure protection device Decompression device Pressure gauge Pressure gauge connector Isolator And so on
and for volumes of more than 1 liter: CE-Logo Accreditation number of the certifying body
The operator is required to comply with these regulations. OLAER units use all or some of these devices (supplied as optional extras).
And on some models: Warning messages and safety instructions ("Danger", "use only nitrogen", etc. or similar messages) maximum inflation pressure in bar Total dry weight in kg Damaged or missing nameplates have to be replaced! Operation without nameplate is not allowed.
3. Handling - Storage
The original packing is suitable for handling and storing the equipment, unless otherwise specified.
5. Commissioning
The equipment must only be commissioned by qualified technicians (contact OLAER or an approved OLAER-agent). Before installation, visually check that the accumulator is not damaged. Before carrying out any work on the hydraulic system, ensure that it is depressurized. Incorrect installation may result in serious accidents. It is strictly forbidden to: weld, solder, drill, or perform any other operation that may change any mechanical properties!
3.1 Handling
Handle with care! Provide lifting gear that is suitable for the weight of the accumulator. The inflation valve must not be subjected to any impact, however slight.
3.2 Storage
Store in a cool, dry place. Do not expose to flames or heat. It is recommended that accumulators be stored in a horizontal position. When storing accumulators in their original packaging, do not stack them, unless their volume is less than 4 liters (maximum 2 tiers). If the accumulators are to be stored for more that 5 years, all parts made of elastomeric material must be replaced before they are put into service (contact OLAER or an approved OLAER agent). If they are to be stored for a period of 5 years or less, this period should be borne in mind when determining the dates of the first maintenance operations (see Section 6). Storing an accumulator inflated to its inflation pressure P0 for a long period of time is not recommended (see Section 5.1.1)
- modify the accumulator or its components without the prior written agreement of OLAER. Explosion hazard and/or danger of bursting! For further information about the commissioning or use of the accumulator, contact OLAER or an approved OLAER-agent.

Where the model used is fitted with a bleeder screw, ensure that this is fully accessible. Take the environmental conditions into account and, if necessary, protect heat sources, electric and magnetic fields against lightning, moisture, bad weather and so on. For optimum performance, place the accumulator as close as possible to the unit being used. It can be installed vertically with the inflation valve upwards, or it can be mounted horizontally. 5.1.7 Mounting Mount the accumulator as follows: Ensure that the pipes connected directly or indirectly to the accumulator are not subjected to any abnormal force. Ensure that the accumulator cannot move, or minimize any movement that may occur as a result of broken connections. OLAER collars and brackets are designed for this purpose (and can be supplied as optional extras). The accumulator must not subjected to any stress or load, in particular from the structure with which it is associated. 5.1.8 Final check before startup The pre-startup check must be carried out in accordance with current site regulations.
5.2 Inflation
Secure the accumulator. Determine a safety area not in line with the openings (hydraulic and nitrogen side). Caution: parts may be ejected in the event of component breakage. Use a checking and inflation instrument (refer to the instructions on how to use the latter) to inflate, deflate and check the inflation pressure P0. OLAER checking-inflation tools (supplied as optional extras) are used to inflate, deflate and check the pressure of the accumulators. NOTE: The nitrogen pressure varies according to the temperature of the gas. Whenever nitrogen is used to inflate or deflate the accumulator, allow the temperature to stabilize before checking the pressure. Never exceed the maximum allowable pressure PS indicated on the accumulator (or the maximum inflation pressure, if applicable). Check the inflation valve for leaks (for example using soapy water). Use the safety cap to protect the inflation valve.

doc.6-120
6. Maintenance / Repair
Before removing the accumulator from the hydraulic circuit, you must ensure that there is no residual hydraulic pressure in the accumulator. Before dismantling the accumulator, ensure that no inflation pressure remains (see Section 5.2.)! Before disassembling an accumulator all parts mounted to the fluidside connection, like reducers, connectors, or any other accessories have to be removed. With the accumulator completely free of pressure, the poppet valve in the fluidport is open or can be pushed inside with hand force (EHV/IHV series). For accumulators with the bladder support grid (EBV/IBV series), a loose fit of the grid has to be detected. If this is not the case all furher work has to be stopped! Please contact OLAER! The relevant repair instructions doc.6-130 (IHV/EHV series) or doc.6-140 (IBV/EBV series) have to be respected. Those are available under www.olaer.de additionally. Once they have been commissioned, OLAER accumulators require practically no maintenance. To keep the equipment in good working order and ensure a long service life, the following maintenance work is recommended:

Description The valve is a check valve in a screwable design. It has free flow in one direction and closes without leakage in the opposite direction. The valve is a spring loaded ball type. Valve seat /(ground and lapped) and valve body are heat treated; sealing surface is lapped; ball is guided. The valve is sealed in the cavity by means of an O-ring at the front of the valve. If the valve is used where sudden load in the direction of the check valve occurs, e.g. accumulator circuits, it is important that the nominal flow not be exceed.
