United Kingdom, Norway, Iran, Cuba, France, Philippine Commonwealth, Czechoslovakia Topic: Atomic Energy The General Assembly, Taking into account that the Quebec Agreement of 1943 was not able to successfully prevent atomic energy from being used for non-peaceful purposes, Recognizing the benefits of utilizing nuclear energy to slow depletion of nonrenewable energy sources such as fossil fuels, Bearing in mind the grave consequences which the world witnessed as a result of atomic energy being used as weapons at the bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War 2, Aware of the apparent mutual suspicion between US and USSR with regards to the use of atomic energy, Emphasizing the fundamental difference between peaceful nuclear energy programs and nuclear weapons development, Encouraging the use of atomic energy for alternative energy solutions, but still remaining for solely peaceful purposes, Recognizing the importance of international cooperation between MDCs and LDCs in developing atomic energy as a source of sustainable energy, Welcoming further effective solutions to ensure that atomic energy is solely used for peaceful purposes, Condemning the use of nuclear weapons for offensive or defensive purposes regardless of the circumstances, 1. Calling upon all countries to cooperate to limit use of atomic energy solely for peaceful purposes, 2. Decides to remain actively seized on the matter
