AIR CARGO TRANSPORTATION The history of aviation started with Wright Brothers in 1903, the worlds first air

cargo flight was on November 7th 1910, it was between Dayton and Columbus, Ohio in a Wright Model B aeroplane. The World War II was the age of flight, it helped to increase the production of aircrafts and, and to produce new models of them, for example specialized aircrafts for combats. After the World War II some companies after offering a complete service of air transport, they decided to offer a service just for cargo transportation, the first company doing this was La Compagnie des Messageries Ariennes (CMA) on April 18 1919. Other companies did not last long in this field. On the other hand the history of aviation in Colombia took place on 1911 when two pilots (French Paul Miltgen and Colombian Jos Cicern Castillo) brought the first aircraft to Colombia. The first successful flight done in Colombia was in 1912, did by John Smith, sponsored Jos Victor Dugand Gnecco in Barranquilla. Air transport brings to business people the possibility of delivery with many advantages such as reducing inventory carrying for global businesses, allows certain perishable good to be in other markets all year, broken with the obstacles of seasons, decrease time of storage. The possibility of delivering fast the merchandise is an important advantage, because it helps on the speed of doing businesses. The disadvantages of this type of transportation are the high prices manage in this field as the most important; delays in service, size and weight restrictions. In Colombia air cargo transport is the one that connect to all parts of Colombia. Notwithstanding this, for movement between five key centers, the river system is more frequently used. In some cities air cargo transport is more important as the statistics said, for example in Bogot more than a half of good are moved by air.
