The Barsons Journey to Plant Churches in Kampong Cham, Cambodia

The Third of Four Letters About Our Passion For Missions

Our last two letters introduced you to our call to missions and our reasons for going to Cambodia. We would now like to inform you about World Team, the missionary organization that is presently assisting us in our preparation for the field and will provide us with much needed resources while we are in Cambodia.

World Team, Our Partner

Mission Statement: World Team exists to glorify God by working together to establish reproducing churches focusing on the unreached peoples of the world.
In our last letter we talked about the need for Christian workers at Friendship School in Kampong Cham. A small church has been started there and is presently meeting in the home of one of the students. Due to the growth of this church and the desire of the Khmer people to learn more about God and the Bible, World Team and our church, Xenos Christian Fellowship, have decided to send us to assist with the work there. In what is known as The Great Commission, Jesus gave his followers one final command before he departed: I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you. Matthew 28:18-20 The early church grew due to the Apostle Pauls dedication to this command and we believe that this model is the most effective way for people to come to faith in Christ and become grounded in Jesus teachings. Sharing the Gospel, developing and releasing leaders, and interdependence among Christians are some of World Teams core values with which we agree.

Sharing the Gospel

The Gospel is the good news that Jesus died to pay the penalty of our sin, was raised from the dead, and that we can have forgiveness of sins past, present, and future through faith in this payment. This is the one, distinct message of the Bible that God wants us to proclaim. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10: 9

Developing and Releasing Leaders

The process by which one Christian helps another to grow in faith by teaching them how to pray, apply the Bible to their life, and live out their faith in Christ daily. Through this process church leaders are made, nurtured and strive. Paul is an example of this in the New Testament. He tells Timothy: These things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2

Interdependence Among Christians

World Team recognizes that Gods work cannot be done alone. Because of this, World Team sends their missionaries in teams, dependent on one another and the larger Body of Christ to engage in this work. We will be joining a team of fellow workers when we arrive in Kampong Cham, and a home support team is assisting our preparations for the field before we go.

What does World Team do?

Now that you know that we agree with World Teams vision for church planting and interdependence you may wonder how they assist us with this process. World Team is an interdenominational missions agency with workers around the globe, that provide: Assessment and training with in-depth evaluation of character to determine fitness for the mission field Opportunities to connect with other missionaries and learn about many different aspects of missionary life Assessment of biblical knowledge and recommendations for further reading in specific areas, as well as on-line Bible training Facilitation with partner development and coaching on field preparation Assistance with assimilating to life in Cambodia- materially and physically Research and creation of a personal support grid to determine financial requirements to sustain life and ministry in Cambodia Fund dispersion and sending of tax deductible receipts while in the field Emotional and spiritual counseling and support

We hope this gives you an understanding of World Teams role as our missionary agency. Check out their website (Worldteam. org) for more details and to see where they are involved in Gods work around the globe. We would love to talk further with you if you have questions or comments about this work. Do not hesitate to contact us! One more letter to come!
