Installation of converter driven motors

earthing for low frequent current /voltage

one main earthing bar or one main equipotential connection point as well as a meshed network foundation ground ( no different main earthing bondings / all over equal earthing potential / no current flowing within earthing system during normal operation without fault ) all standards referring protection against bodily injury fulfilled low resistance potential equalization of all system components ensured connecting terminal at motor housing used standard PE-conductors are sufficient (without special high frequency characteristics) cross section of protective earth conductors at least half cross section of phase conductors (valid for phase conductor cross section above 35 mm)

EMC measures for high frequent current / voltage
connection between converter and motor with an absolute symmetrical three-phase cable, three-phase cable with a preferably stranded shield braiding large area shield connection at both ends ( ideally circumferential 360 contact each, no longer pigtails ) one EMC shield bus bar through all rectifier and inverter cabinets of converter , low impedance contact between EMC bus bar and PE bus bar
to

avoid bearing current damages the HF common-mode-currents are flowing back on shortest possible way from motor to converter ( low impedant current flow through HF-shield braiding of three phase cable, large area shield connection using EMC shield clip in converter / EMC gland at motor terminal box )

if nec. for HF optimization additional low impedance equipotential bonding conductors between motor frame and converter PE bus bar, between motor main terminal box and motor frame, between motor and driven machine ( e.g. HF braided flat copper strip, stranded round conductor with many tin coated copper wires, cross-section at least 95 mm )
