Is YOUR Child Being Left Behind

...because of a lack of instructional supplies?
NCLB, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, provided for education reform, but not without controversy.

*Budget cuts have forced many school children to "do without." Certainly, the economy has had a negative influence on school budgets, but the costs of complying with NCLB mandates may have hurt even more.

What do you know about the No Child Left Behind Law?

"Hmmm...I
wonder what went wrong with my school. Little things are happening, like my teacher running out of art supplies for our projects...

NCLB: Yes it's still here, but it became a directive for education reform when it was signed into law (#107-110) by President George Bush on January 8, What's up with 2002. It was conceived and that?" promoted by the [then] federal administration in Washington, DC. Intending to improve reading and math [test] scores at schools across the United States, the law re-authorized a number of federal programs targeted at education reform. However, a variety of opinions, both pro and con, have been written about this landmark legislation. Both primary and secondary schools are now facing accountability tests that promise to leave no child behind - at least in "test scores" for reading and math. Parents are now provided with more information about the schools that their children attend. Parents are also being given more choice in where they may send their children to school.

The problem that arises is that these "test score" requirements seem to take resources from all the other activities needed for a well-rounded education.
Importance of Reading The more you learn the more you will realize that success in reading is the key to success throughout your child's school career. If your school is falling short on helping children become proficient readers YOU must help your child get ahead by providing the right tools at home. What do you think? Adequate Yearly Progress NCLB requires States to maintain an [expensive] accountability system - tests, graduation rates, attendance, and other indicators. Schools have to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) goals, as set by each state, by raising levels of achievement for subgroups of students such as minorities, special education, and those from low-income families, to a state-determined level. Every student must reach proficiency levels, as determined by the state in which they live, by the 2013-2014 school year. A planned and escalating form of "help" is provided to students in schools

NoChildLeftBehind.com facilitates the replacement of much-needed school supplies by presenting catalogs of needed items for your shopping convenience.

that continually do not meet AYP. "A good storyteller never lets the facts get in the way." (the late comedian, Dave Allen) Hmmmm...wonder why this quote caught our eye... External links

The Senate ratified the bicameral conference committee report on the proposed P2.006-trillion national budget for 2013 on Wednesday afternoon. This came after Senator Franklin Drilon, chair of the Senate Committee on Finance Committee, reported the approval General Appropriations Act for the next fiscal year earlier on the same day. Drilon said the budget, which will be submitted to President Benigno Noyoy Aquino III for enactment into law, is a tool for empowerment that is 10.5 percent higher than this years P1.816 trillion budget. Related Story: Senate set to scrutinize 2013 budget; biggest chunk for educ This years budget is expected to provide much needed funds aimed at improving governments infrastructure projects, thereby enhancing public services and providing more jobs, better healthcare services, and education, Drilon said. The budget of P2.006 trillion for 2013 remains intact, with the only difference being the P100 million priority development assistance fund (PDAF) of Senator Panfilo Lacson, whose term of office ends on 2013, he noted. Drilon clarified the bicameral committee has approved a motion from some congressmen, who moved to allocate P100 million for the creation of more national high schools in the country.

Other News: Ping vows: Only one 'Lacson' in politics He said the budget maintains big chunks for Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Education, and Department of Health (DOH). The approved budget reflects the trust of the President on social services with the highest allocation for education, likewise the Conditional Cash Transfer, and for the Department of Health, Drilon said. The acting chair of Senate Committee on Ways and Means also enumerated the top ten departments that will be receiving the bulk of the budget like: Department of Education (P293.32 billion) Department of Public Works and Highways (P152.4 billion) Department of National Defense (P121.6 billion) Department of Interior and Local Government (P121.12 billion) Department of Agriculture (P74.1 billion) Department of Health (P56.8 billion) Department of Social Welfare and Development (P56.2 billion) Department of Transportation and Communications (P37.1 billion) Department of Finance (P33.2 billion) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (to P23.7 billion) Other News: Phillipines typhoon toll rises to 238 But he explained some budgetary requirements for DOH still depend on the passage of Sin Tax Reform bill, which is still pending before the bicameral conference committee. He added the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was also given sufficient budget in order to pursue the infrastructure program of the Aquino administration.
