NAVIGATING THE BOAT SHOW
FROMSTEMTOSTERN
Attending the Fort Lauderdale
International Boat Show can be
overwhelming unless you have a
plan.
With six sites, more than 1,200
exhibitors and miles of docks, you
needtobe preparedsoyoucanget
the most value and enjoyment out
of the show.
When to
go: The first
thing you
need to deter-
mine is which
day or days to
go.
The show
always opens
on a Thurs-
day, which is
known as
Prime Time
Preview. If
youwant tobe
among the
first several thousand people to
see the show, then youll pay the
prime-time price of $36per ticket.
If being first isnt an issue, but
you are looking to make a major
purchase, then a two-day ticket
for $38 is your best bet. Good for
any two of the next four days of
theshow, it allows youtocompari-
son shop for a boat, engine, elec-
tronics, safety gear, jewelry, art-
work or clothing, then come back
after youve had time to process
everything and make a final deci-
sion.
Thursday is often quite busy at
the show, but Saturday and Sun-
day are traditionally the busiest
days. Monday is the least crowded
day and some exhibitors offer re-
ducedprices ontheir goods just so
they dont have to pack them up
andlug themback home.
What to wear: You want to
dress comfortably for the show.
On a hot and sunny day at the
outdoor venues, youll want light-
weight clothing, a hat and sun-
screen youd be surprised how
scorched you can get walking
along the docks. If youre staying
in the air-conditioned Broward
County Convention Center, you
dont have to worry about that.
You also want to wear comfort-
able shoes because you might be
doing a lot of walking. If you plan
on going on boats, youll want
shoes that are easy to take off and
put back on because most exhibi-
tors will not let you wear shoes
even boat shoes on their boats.
If youre wearing socks, make sure
theyre cleananddont have holes.
Ticket savings: Its best to buy
your boat showtickets inadvance.
By getting them online at show-
management.com, you wont
have to wait in line to buy themat
the show, plus youll save $2 per
purchase (so an adult ticket is $18
instead of $20 and the two-day
ticket is $36). Click on the IGFA
School of Sportfishing seminars
on the boat show website for an
evenbigger discount.
Parkandcruise: Getting tothe
show can be easy or maddening.
The basic rule of thumb is to park
as far away from the Bahia Mar
Yachting Center, which is the
heart of theshow, as youcan. State
Road A1A by Bahia Mar is usually
jammedwithcars andsois South-
east17thStreet Causewaynear the
convention center, which has a
parkinggaragethat fills upearlyin
the day.
The best options are to park
off-site at War Memorial Audito-
rium or in downtown Fort Lau-
derdale and take one of the free
shuttle buses to the show. The
buses start running at 9 a.m., an
hour before the show opens each
day, and continue until an hour
after the showcloses eachday.
The most enjoyable way to get
to the showis by parking in one of
thecityorprivatelotsorgaragesat
the Las Olas Riverfront andtaking
the free riverboat to Bahia Mar.
The riverboat captains often pro-
vide an entertaining and inform-
ative narrative of the routes his-
tory andhomes.
Get connected: Once youre at
the show, you can map out the
exhibitors you want to see with
the showprogram. Or, if you have
an iPhone or Android smart
phone, you can download the free
MyBoatShowapp.
The app lets you search for
boats by name, specifications and
size, as well as search for exhibi-
tors, manufacturers and product
some of the worlds most mag-
nificent motoryachts. If youve
ever wondered howyoud spend a
Powerball jackpot, check out
thesefloatingpalaces. As youwalk
by the Swimming Hall of Fame,
categories. The app also has maps
of the show, seminar information,
restroom locations and show
transportation schedules. You can
even use it to buy boat show tick-
ets.
Dont miss: The docks along
the Intracoastal Waterway have

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show includes miles of docks and 1,200 exhibitors, so you should
decide when to go, what to wear and what things you dont want to miss.

If a smaller boat is more
your style, the Broward
County Convention Center
has everything from flats
and bay boats to center con-
soles and runabouts. If you
just need a new outboard
motor, the latest models
from all the major compa-
nies will be there.
If you already own a boat
but want to get more out of
it, sit in on any number of
free seminars. Those
looking to do some cruising
can pick up pointers on
boats, destinations, elec-
tronics, navigation and
chartering from experi-
enced explorers at the
TrawlerPort on B dock at
Bahia Mar.
Anglers can learn every-
thing fromthe basics to tips
on catching sailfish, sword-
fish, kingfish and dolphin at
the IGFA School of Sport-
fishing at the convention
center. Youngsters ages 5-16
can practice casting and
knot tying at the Kids Fish-
ing Clinics Saturday and
Sunday at the convention
center.
Divers can learn the bas-
ics of scuba and freediving
as well as underwater pho-
tographyandspearfishingat
the Blue Wild Dive and
Travel Show at the conven-
tion center, and all boaters
can benefit from the Blue
Wildseminarsfeaturingtips
and stories by U.S. Coast
Guard search and rescue
personnel and Lt. Dave
Binghamof the Florida Fish
and Wildlife Conservation
Commission.
Those into marine art-
work will be impressed by
the talentedartists andtheir
pieces at the Blue Wild.
Among the big-name artists
at Bahia Mar are Guy Har-
vey, Carey Chen and David
Wirth. Bahia Mar also is the
best place to shop for ma-
rine accessories ranging
from boat shoes and sun-
glasses to clothing and fish-
ing tackle.
Technology lovers could
probably spend a day in the
electronics tent at Bahia
Mar examining the latest in
chart plotters, autopilots, ra-
dar units, video cameras,
EPIRBS, radios and satellite
communications. If you get
hungry, thefoodcourt at Ba-
hia Mar offers everything
from hot dogs and ham-
burgers to more exotic cui-
sines at reasonable prices.

FamilyFun
Howdo you keep spouses and kids happy at the
boat show? You go where you know theyll see
things that they like. If youreserious about buyinga
boat, but theyrenot interestedintheprocess, leave
the negotiations for another day.
Instead, take everyone on the free riverboat
ridefromtheLas Olas Riverfront toBahiaMar. After
you arrive, let the family gawk at the spectacular
superyachts lined up along the face dock. Then you
can move on to whatever type boats interest the
family sportfishermen, high-performance, inflat-
ables, trawlers or cruisers.
Plan to have lunch at Bahia Mars food court,
where everyone canget something tosuit his or her
tastes. Then head toward the boat shows main
entrance. Along the way, youll be able to peruse
and purchase clothing, boat shoes, fishing tackle,
sunglasses, jewelry, coolers and art .
If the kids are into fishing, and theyre ages 5-16,
catch a shuttle bus to the Broward County Conven-
tion Center so they can attend one of the free
Kids Fishing Clinics, which are at noon and 2 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday. Theyll get fun, low-key in-
struction in casting, knot-tying and conservation.
Afterwards, they can stroll through the Blue
Wild Dive and Travel Show in the lobby of the
conventioncenter, whereexhibitorsoffer everything
from dive instruction and scuba gear to spearguns
and dive destinations. Marine artists and photogra-
phers display their work.
Seriousboaters
Thebest thingabout theboat showfor someone
serious about buying a boat is the opportunity to
comparison shop. Imagine being able to go car
shopping and being able to check out three differ-
ent makes of automobile inone dealers showroom.
Thats the beauty of the boat show.
If youreinthemarket for acenter consolefishing
boat, you can compare the features and prices of
three or four or more similar models. Get in the
boats and study their layouts, sit at the helms,
open the hatches and lean against the gunwales.
Likewise for a sportfisherman or trawler or su-
peryacht: Climbaboard, walk around, sit downand
figure out what you like and dont like. Sometimes
you can arrange for a test drive with a similar boat
thats not in the show, but in most cases youll
schedule that sea trial after the show.
Once youve narrowed down your choices, you
can negotiate prices. Before you get to that point,
you can determine your financing options with
anynumber of lendersat theshowandfindout how
much insurance will cost. You can price a newboat
lift if you live on the water or secure a slip in a
marina.
You can also procure accessories for your new
boat: Everything from an anchor and autopilot to
fishing tackle and furniture to a stereo system and
safety gear.
Adividedcouple
You love being on the water, but your partner
would rather be somewhere else. Should the two of
you go to the boat showtogether?Of course.
Your partner might not care about boats, but its
fun to take in the sights and people-watch. And
dont forget the benefits of sharing your observa-
tions while walking hand-in-hand along the docks
on a sunny autumn day.
There are plenty of things to see and buy at the
showbesides boats. Start withsomeof theworlds
best marine wildlife artists and then you can
shop for accessories. Guy Harveys booth is in the
entrance tent at Bahia Mar. There, in addition to his
originals and prints, you can buy all types of prod-
ucts featuring his art work. Next to Harvey is sculp-
tor DavidWirthsbooth. Wirthhand-carvesmarine
life such as fish and seahorses from wood. He also
fashionsHawaiiancirclehooksfromwoodaswell as
other materials. CareyChensboothis closeby and
stocked with his original paintings, prints and gi-
clees.
Whether you spend time on a boat or not, boat
shoes are always in fashion and there are plenty of
booths where you can buy a pair. The Capt. Harrys
Fishing Supply booth at Bahia Mar has a variety of
footwear styles ranging from sneaker types to flip
flops, aswell asseveral different makesof shirtsand
hats along with fishing tackle. Quality sunglasses
are another essential itemand the showhas plenty
of those, too. Capt. Harrys sells Costa sunglasses
and Sunglass Haven in the entrance tent has many
different brands.
Fantasybuyers
Ever wonder what would you do if you won the
lottery? If youve dreamed about cruising around
the world, the boat show is the perfect place to
seejust howfar your imaginary winnings couldtake
you.
Walk the docks on the Intracoastal Waterway at
BahiaMar, theSwimmingHall of FameandLas Olas
Marina to see howbig a boat you could buy if you
hit a big jackpot. Megayachts boats over 80feet
and superyachts boats over 100 feet can
range in price from$5 million to $50million.
In most cases, youd probably be happy to own
the yachts tender, which is often a rigid inflatable
or flats skiff. Visit the TrawlerPort at Bahia Mar
for a less expensive, seaworthy option for cruising.

NAVIGATING THE BOAT SHOW
FROMSTEMTOSTERN
The Fort Lauderdale
International Boat Showhas
just about everything that
floats, including an impres-
sive collection of multimil-
lion-dollar boats that at-
tracts buyers from all over
the world.
There are palatial vessels
fit for royalty and moto-
ryachts like the 130-footer
that was onceownedbytele-
vision legend Johnny Car-
son. And there are small
boats that serve as tenders
for the big girls.
High-performance fans
have a whole dock of go-fast
boats like Cigarette Racing
Teams 42-foot Huntress.
Fishing fanatics can choose
fromthe newest offerings by
Intrepid and Contender, as
well as sportfishers by Cabo
and Hatteras. Cruisers can
head offshore in luxury in
dozens of boats or can zip
around inland waters and
lakesintheveryfirst Tommy
Bahama Hacker-Craft.
With Sanlorenzo Yachts,
you can buy one of the mod-
els the Italian company has
on display at the show or
build one however you like.
The only limitations are
your imagination and your
bank account balance.
The company, which has
its United States office in
Fort Lauderdale, builds
yachts from 62 feet to more
than150 feet at its two ship-
yards inItaly (visit sanloren-
zoamericas.com). Onceacli-
ent selects a size, everything
else is the clients choice.
Weve never built two
yachts exactly alike, said
creative director Alastair
Callender. Every single one
is totally tailor-made to each
clients specifications.
Youcandecide howmany
cabins you want and where
youwant them, so insteadof
four cabins, you could have
two cabins, a gym and a
sauna. Youcanhavea formal
dining area or a lounge and
your choice of kitchen styles
and appliances. And its up
to you what type of wood,
stone and fabric you want. If
you welcome suggestions,
Sanlorenzo has experienced
in-house designers to help.
Four Sanlorenzo yachts
are berthed on the face dock
at the Bahia Mar Yachting
Center: a 72-, a 94- and a
104-footer with planing
hulls and a 92 with a semi-
displacement hull. Base
prices run from $4.87 mil-
lionto $12.22 million.
The companys boats,
which were first built in
1958, have a reputation for
their qualityandattentionto
detail, which is possible be-
cause Sanlorenzo builds
only 20-30yachts a year.
The 104 won the Italian
Design Award for Innova-
tion and the 94 won the En-
vironmental Protection De-
sign Award for its many
green features and was also

Year in the superyacht catego-
ry at the Genoa International
Boat Show.
All four of the Sanlorenzos
at the showhave expansive fly-
bridge decks that are suitable
forcasual entertaininganddin-
ing. Instead of having tenders
and davits on those decks, the
tenders are stored out of sight
ina garage at the stern.
Eachinterior of the boats
on display is different and
can be adapted to each
model.
If someones only
looking for a 72-foot yacht,
Callender said, well take
them on the 94 and the 104
to showthemthe options.
For example, the 94 has a
relaxing lounge in the salon
with a bar, sink, refrigerator
and icemaker in cabinets
adjacent to the entrance,
hand-carved stone
throughout, a Zen garden,
leather-covered stairs and a
bed that faces the stern in
the master stateroom.
Those interested in see-
ing the boats can call ahead
(954-376-4794) or make an
appointment at the show.
Those in the market for a

Mary Alice II. The 130-foot
Westport was built in 2002
by TV talk show host
Johnny Carson. After Car-
sons death in 2005, his es-
tate sold it to the current
owner in 2007, who spent
more than $1 million in up-
grades and is nowseeking a
bigger boat.
KellyEsser, thecaptainof
Mary Alice II, said the boat
was a getaway for Carson,
who would write jokes on
the boat for his Tonight
Show successor Jay Leno
andfax themto the show.
It was aplacehelovedto
be, said Esser, who added
that the yacht has some of
its original furnishings, but
has been updated with the
latest technology.
The boats super user-
friendly.
Like Carson, the yacht
has a low-key, welcoming
feel thats ideal for families
and friends. Spacious and
comfortable with five state-
rooms that sleep 10, a large
salon, a dining room and
windows that open, the
boat is listed with Denison
Yacht Sales (denisonyacht-
sales.com) for $8.95 million
and on display at Las Olas
Marina.
The yacht, which has a
top speed of 26 knots and is
ideal for cruising the is-
lands, is outfitted for fun
times. There are two media
areas with movie-theater
quality surround sound.
The skylounge is set up for
dining, entertaining and
poker games.
Theres alsoahot tubthat
comfortably holds six peo-
ple, a gas grill, two Sea-Doo
personal watercraft, two
kayaks, a 17-foot inflatable
tender and two Seabob wa-
ter sleds. Aft of the engine
room are four dive tanks
andanair compressor.
Those seeking a stylish
ride should check out the
Tommy Bahama Edition
Hacker-Craft. The 27-foot
speedboat features a gleam-
ing mahogany hull, a
430-horsepower engine
and the Tommy Bahama
logo on the upholstery,
cushions, steering wheel,
dashandside of the boat.
The new boat came
about after Tommy Baha-
ma, which is known for its
casual mens and womens
clothing, used a Hacker-
Craft in its spring 2012 cata-
log photo shoot in Florida
last year. Tommy Bahama
CEO Terry Pillow, who is a
fan of wooden boats, start-
ing talking with Hacker-

42-foot center console has a
sleeker top that is more
aerodynamic and an air-
conditioned cabin with a
full berth, galley and stand-
up shower. Also on display
are Cigarettes Top Fish
Open and Top Gun Open

Technology is evolving so
dramatically that the prod-
ucts on display at this years
boat showcomparedwiththe
items of a fewyears ago are as
different as todays boats are
from the ones sailed by
Christopher Columbus.
Case in point: You can
run some boats with your
smartphone or tablet and
youcanuse those devices to
check on your boat when
youre not there.
Suzukis innovative out-
board motors (suzukima-
rine.com) are so good that
about the only thing that
can slow them down is the
person using them. So the
company has tweaked sev-
eral of its four-stroke en-
gines to make them run
smarter.
Several models remind
you when it s time to
change the oil and cause a
light to blink in addition to
sounding an alarm when
water pressure is low. Su-
zukis selective rotation
DF250AP has a new lower
unit that allows youtoeasily
change the propeller rota-
tion.
What that means is a
boater with twin Suzuki
outboards needs to carry
only one spare propeller in-
stead of both a regular- and
counter-rotating prop.
Thats great for boaters who
travel to places where find-
ing a replacement prop is
difficult. All they have to do
is put on the spare prop,
takeoff themotors cowling,
switch out plugs for the
props rotation and theyre
ready to go.
Suzuki also reduced the
weight of its 15- and
20-horsepower portable
motors, which are fuel-in-
jected but dont need a bat-
tery to start, and run
smoothly and efficiently.
The new115 and140 models
also weigh less than last
years versions, plus they
have a new cowling design
that improves air flow into
the engine.
Suzuki models areondis-
play throughout the show,
however, for the best infor-
mation check out the Su-
zuki booth at the Broward
ConventionCenter.
Lehr (golehr.com), on
display at Bahia Mar, is in-
troducing its new
9.5-horsepower propane-
powered outboard to go
along with its 2.5- and
5-horse models. Just attach
a propane canister like the
ones youuse for camping or
hook up a 20-pound pro-
pane tank like you use for
your gas barbecue grill.
Amongthenewelectron-
ics at the convention center
is Humminbirds revolu-
tionary 360 imaging depth-
finder (humminbird.com),
which doesnt let you miss
anything around your boat,
whether its a school of fish,
a wreck or a rockpile. Low-
rances new HDS Gen2
Touch displays (low-
rance.com) feature easy to
use, wider screens.
Owners of sailboats and
sportfishingboatsinneedof
electric power but with not
alot of roomtospareshould
check out Fischer Pandas
new4200ECOmarine gen-
erator (fischerpanda.com)
at Bahia Mar.
The small, lightweight,
quiet diesel generator is de-
signed for sailboats 36-42
feet and powerboats 30-36
feet. It features a newfront-
mounted direct-drive raw
water pump, which makes
maintenance easier, and a
five-year limitedwarranty.
In the electronics tent,
ACR Electronics (acrar-
tex.com) has anewpersonal
locator beacon that floats.
That makes the 5.4-ounce,
4.5-inch tall ResQLink+ the
worlds smallest buoyant
406 MHz PLB. Suggested
retail is $325.
The ResQLink is some-
thing boaters hope they
never havetouse, but if they
get stranded or sink while
on the water, theyll be glad
they have it. They merely
pushabuttontoactivatethe
PLB and the GPS coordi-
nates of their location are
relayed to the appropriate
search and rescue team. A
separate homing signal and
strobe light guides rescuers
to the boaters. Also new is
the ACR ARTEX Survivor
Club. Buy an ACR beacon
and use it in an emergency
and you become a club
member and also receive a
newreplacement beacon in
exchange for the usedone.

NAVIGATING THE BOAT SHOW
FROMSTEMTOSTERN
Thinking about buying a
new boat or slipping into
something pre-owned?
Then the Fort Lauder-
dale International Boat
Show may just have what
youre looking for. One
things certain: There will
be a lot of marine eye candy
ondisplay.
But before you get car-
ried away with visions of
sailing off in your dream
boat, you should do some
homework before heading
to the show.
While boat shows are
good for comparison shop-
ping given the number of
boats and motors in one
place, advance research
will help simplify the buy-
ing experience, boating in-
dustry specialists say.
Boat showprices can be
really good, especially with
older inventory, said Caro-
line Ajootian, assistant vice
president, consumer affairs
for BoatUS, a national asso-
ciation representing boat
owners since1966.
The good news is that if
youre in the market for a
boat, financing is available.
Some lending specialists
say a 680 credit score or
higher is realistictoobtaina
boat loantoday.
Money is readily avail-
able if people qualify, said
Bob Allen, office manager
at Trident Funding Corp. in
Fort Lauderdale. More
lending programs are avail-
able now than there ever
were.
Interest rates are also
down a bit over last year,
which is a good thing, Al-
lenadded.
This year, the hottest-
selling boat category in
South Florida is the open
fisherman, with three or
four outboards, which is
used for fishing and diving,
said Scott Stamper, senior
vice president of Atlass In-
surance Group in Fort Lau-
derdale. These boats are
fast andfuel-efficient.
Boat sales are rebound-
ing in the lagging economy,
and that bodes well for the
many boat sellers and
manufacturers exhibiting
at the 53rdannual show.
For the12months ending
in September, sales of new
boats in South Florida rose
5.5 percent to 3,854 units
compared with 3,653 in the
prior-year period, accord-
ing to Info-Link Technolo-
gies, a Miami-based marine
industry tracker.
Consider these tips:
Do your research:
Check several dealer web-
sites toget anideaof thefair
market value of the boats of
interest. While showprices
can be attractive, its prob-
ablyagoodideatobuyfrom
a local dealer that provides
warranty service, boat in-
dustry specialists say. It can
be costly to trailer a boat
out-of-state for servicing.
Pre-qualify for loan:
The [boat] brokers like it.
It means theyre serious
buyers, said Allen of Tri-
dent, an exhibitor who al-
ready has several pre-quali-
fied prospective buyers
coming to this years show.
More and more people
want it [pre-qualification]
so they canget the money if
they findtheir dreamboat.
Calculate full costs of
boat ownership: Other
than the price tag, boat
ownershipcosts include in-
surance, maintenance, stor-
age or dockage fees and
fuel. Hire a marine survey-
or to evaluate the boat, es-
pecially a pre-owned one,
to determine if repairs are
required.
Consider boat usage:
Have a realistic view of
what you and your family
want to do with the boat
and howmany times a year
its likely to be used to de-
termine if its really the best
investment, Ajootian ad-
vised. Renting a boat or
joining a boating club may
be more suitable options.
Know your boating
skills: Buy a boat that
matches your skills level or
buy one that you can com-
fortably andsafely learnon.

NAVIGATING THE BOAT SHOW
FROMSTEMTOSTERN
The Wreck Bar: In our house, the myth about
the mermaids at the Wreck Bar may outlast the
true identity of Santa Claus. Yes, kids, they are real.
Located inside the hotel called the Sheraton Fort
Lauderdale Beach, but still the Yankee Clipper in
our hearts, the MeduSirena Swim Show (medu-
sirena.com) continues to add even more kitschy
charm to a watering hole already dripping in it.
ShowsareeveryFridayat 6:30p.m. (1140Seabreeze

WFort Lauderdale: Some of the most inter-
esting things afloat during the weekend will be
found at Wet, the slick poolside party platform
that the hotel calls a high-energy sunbathing
mecca. On weekends DJs spin for a bikinied crowd
bracketed by a peerless view of the Atlantic. You
can catch underwater views of the action in the
pool via the peek-a-boo staircase that rises from
the Living Room, a party space with sofas that
have held the butts of not one Kardashian, but
three. And when the party turns to dinner, theres
Steak 954. They serve dry aged and Australian
Tajima kobe beef, which you might order as part of
the $100 Philly cheese steak. Most entrees fall well
under that price. Be sure to leave roomfor dessert
from Sarah Magoon, one of South Floridas most
talented pastry chefs, who pays homage to TVs
Dexter in one of her creations. (401 N. Fort Lau-
derdale Beach Blvd., Fort Lauderdale; WFortLau-
derdaleHotel.com, 954-414-8200)
The Treasure Trove: Owner Jeff Rudd always
refers it as the Internationally World Famous
Treasure Trove, an ironic wink at the modest tav-
erns salty humility. But when the windows are
open, letting a sunny breeze blow across the var-
nishedwoodbar, itslikeyourehavingacoldoneon
deck somewhere. As always, boat show traffic
rerouting around A1A will make the Trove harder to
get to, but with a confidence borne of 18 years of
experience, Rudd says: People know how to find
me. Expect live music and food and drink specials
each day of the show, and nightly sing-alongs into
the wee hours. (2933 SE Fifth St., Fort Lauderdale;

Gran Forno Bakery: Open from 7 a.m. until 6
p.m. Tuesday-Sunday, Gran Forno bakes some of
the best bread in South Florida. Equally popular,
however, are the grab-and-go panini sandwiches
made on the house-baked ciabatta turkey and
Swiss; chicken pesto and incredible vegetarian
eggplant with mozzarella. There are just a few
spots to sit, but their sister restaurant Gran Forno
Pronto(704E. Las Olas Blvd., 954- 533-6276, Gran-
FornoPronto.com) offers more seating and an ex-
panded menu including pizza and tapas. (1235 E.
Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale; 954-467-2244,

Caf Martorano: Steve Martorano started
with sandwiches 20 years ago, and it has grown
into one of the regions best eateries. Part restau-
rant/part nightclub, Martorano was spinning old
school r&b and showing movies long before most
restaurants. His Italian-American menu runs from
what Gourmet magazine called the worlds best
meatball with salad and ricotta to Veal Sinatra,
tenderloin of veal with lobster tails and mush-
rooms in a marsala creamsauce. Come early if you
dont like loud, but I dont believe theres anything
on the Martorano menu you wont love. (343 E
OaklandPark Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, 954-561-2554,

Grille 66 & Bar: Fort Lauderdales status as
the countrys largest yachting center is on full
display through the wall of windows at this
215-seat Intracoastal beauty. With all of its wood
and glass, you could be sitting inside one of the
megayachts for sale at the boat show. The Grille is
a solid American restaurant that never disap-
points. The menu starts with classics such as
oysters Rockefeller and a chopped iceberg salad
with gorgonzola vinaigrette. Prime aged beef and
inventive seafoodandpasta are servedby some of
the best professionals in the business. From 5-7
p.m. daily, well-poured cocktails are two-for-one
and the bar menu is half price. (Hyatt Regency Pier
Sixty-Six, 2301 SE 17th St. Causeway, Fort Lau-
derdale, 954-728-3500, Grille66andBar.com)
