Introduction
Research is an essential of Higher education in the world today. University, an abode of knowledge is expected to conduct genuine and high quality research which has impact on the society. Teaching and Research should be synthesized so as to bring in relevance to the academic activity in the university. Linkages with Industry as well as other Government and Non-Government organizations also have very valuable influence on the research conducted in the Universities. SNDT Womens University places great importance on research. Faculty research, sponsored research as well as Departmental/ Institutional research are important research activities in the University. Ph. D. Programme in SNDT Womens University is one such research activity which aims at enhancing, sharpening research skills of future researchers. In order to provide basic understanding about research in specific area, almost each Master programme has introduced a course (at least 4-credit) on Research methodology. Some Master level programmes also insist on conducting 4 to 8 credit research study. This workshop is planned to provide knowledge and skills in advance research methodology to Ph.D. Students (newly registered) as well as for the faculty who are interested in keeping up with new trends in research methodology in their respective discipline.

Workshop Objectives
The participants will be able to Understand framework for scientific enquiry. Use electronic resources to conduct literature review Examine trends and patterns in the use of various research methods Select appropriate research method for conducting empirical research Use /develop/select appropriate tools for data collection Select statistical tools for data analysis Use software to conduct data analysis Use/select appropriate style of preparing bibliography Prepare a research proposal using appropriate research methodology. Appreciate the benefits of various types of research

Prerequisites
Basic knowledge of research process For Students: Admission to Ph.D. Course in SNDT Womens University Use of computer and internet Readings of suggested articles/papers

Participants
The participants will be students registered for Ph.D. course in SNDT Womens University and some faculty members who are interested in new trends in research field. Total number of participants will be about 30.

Resource Persons
The workshop sessions and other activities will be guided by professionals in the field.

Pre Workshop Activities


As a part of pre-workshop activities Yahoo/Google Group will be created for the participants and Resource Persons. They all will be invited to join the group. Resources will be posted on the group so that all participants get access to know all the resource material posted. A Blog (Research Methodology for the Ph.D. scholars) will be created for the participants. All participants are also expected to create their own blog. All these blogs will be connected to the Course blog. Participants are expected to write on their blog regularly (including some assignments)

Workshop methodology
Workshops will be conducted in a face-to-face mode. The learning Modules will be posted on Course LMS using Moodle. There will be presentations by the Resource persons which will be followed by discussions. More than 50% time will be allotted for hand-on and group activities. Active participation of all the participants is solicited. The participants are expected to create their own blog on which their assignments, thoughts, reflections could be written.

Post Workshop Activities


The workshop aims at facilitating the process of understanding concepts and trends in Research methodology. The participants are expected to prepare a research proposal after going through this 4-credit course. A Certificate of successful participation will be issued by the University on completion of all tasks/assignments.

Evaluation/Assessment Scheme

Prepare a research proposal Prepare a bibliography of atleast 20 references Review atleast 20 research studies in the related areas. Use data uploaded on the Moodle Course website and using SPSS, compute given statistics and interpret. e. Find out atleat 10 online Journals and give their link on the Course Group or Moodle site
