Henry VIII: Behind the Mask: From Defender of the Faith to Supreme Head of the Church Timothy Kopczynski

Senior Division Website

Kopczynski Process Paper One of the most widely remembered of all Englands monarchs is King Henry VIII. Henry became king during a tumultuous time in English history, but this didnt stop him from

doing exactly what he wanted, and the results were mixed. He ensured the continuation of Tudor rule by having a son, but the road that led him there is filled with historical drama. Henry severed England from the Catholic Church, divorced his first wife, and beheaded his second wife, all for a son. I chose to do my project on Henrys choice to leave the Catholic Church and create his own Anglican Church, because I think that it is astounding how Henry chose to defy a power as great as the Catholic Church because of his yearning for a son and female influence. For my research, I would pick a topic that related to my project and research everything that I needed to know about it. I would create a Microsoft Word document and title it with the topic I was researching. I would enter any information I found onto the document, usually in the form of paragraphs or bulleted points. If I got information from a website, I would copy the website URL onto the document so that I could create a citation for my bibliography when I was done researching. If I had information from a book or other resource, I would add that information to the document as well so citations could be made. Once I was done researching one topic, I would move on to another and use the same process. For my project, I decided to use a website. The project that I am doing covers a lot of information, and I felt that a website would be the best way to showcase all of the information. To develop my website, I used the free website developer Weebler. For my website, I have different tabs for the different topics that my project covers. For example, I have a Profiles tab that gives you a list of the significant historical figures that played an important role in what I am researching. If you click on one of the people in the list, it will take you to a page that has a brief

Kopczynski biography and picture of the person. As research was completed, I would add information to the website. King Henry VIIIs decision to separate England from the Catholic Church was a major turning point in English history. It started a protestant fervor in England, whether Henry wanted it or not. Henrys decision also caused a seesaw effect in England with the country switching from Protestantism (Edward IV), to Catholicism (Mary I), and finally back to Protestantism (Elizabeth I). It also led to increased religious persecution in England and the deaths of many people who didnt support the religious changes. It is because of all these factors that I believe that Henrys choice to leave the Catholic Church is a major turning point in history.
