Benefits of Time Management Improves Life

One of the best things that time management in the workplace can do is its affect on our work life. Every part of managing time at work translate to outside of work. The problem here is that many people don't follow through with this. Many people decide to ignore managing time at home. The result is personal life becomes a chaos. The constant running around like a chicken with its head cut off. So never make the mistake of ignoring time management. Remember if it is good enough for the workplace, then its good enough for our personal life.

Productivity
Another great reason to use time management at work is that it increases productivity. With higher focus on projects and timelines employees will find more efficient ways to complete tasks. Also employees who have a hard time in finding solutions for completing tasks will seek help sooner instead of later. Time Management helps an individual to adopt a planned approach in life. For Effective Time Management one needs to be:

Organized - Avoid keeping stacks of file and heaps of paper at workstation. Throw what all is not
needed. Put important documents in folders. Keep the files in their respective drawers with labels on top of each file. It saves time which goes on unnecessary searching.

Dont misuse time - Do not kill time by loitering or gossiping around. Concentrate on the work and
finish assignments on time. We should remember that the organization is not paying us for playing games on computer or peeping into others cubicles. We should first complete our work and then do whatever we feel like doing. We should not wait till the last moment.

Be Focussed We need to be focused for effective time management.

We should develop the habit of using planners, organizers, table top calendars for better time management. Set reminders on phones or your personal computers.

Hurdles of Time Management Perfectionism

Perfectionism is the tendency to insist that tasks are done perfectly. Perfectionists continue to work on the same task long after its done, they focus on minute details, and they try to improve it almost endlessly. Calling perfectionism an obstacle might seem odd; after all, we should always strive for good performance.

Interruptions
An interruption is anything that prevents us from finishing a task on time. We face many interruptions during the day. It might be a colleague who starts talking with us while were working or a fellow passenger on a plane who starts a conversation while we go over our emails. It could be a phone call or an incoming email thats announced by our computers. Sometimes interruptions seem like a minor issue but, in reality, their

accumulated effect is quite serious. In fact, interruptions can cause serious damage to our time management.

Undefined goals and priorities

Setting goals and priorities is a basic requirement for good time management. After all, one way of planning our time is to check if we are able to reach our goals within the available time.

Stress
Stress is created when the demands made on a person start to exceed that person's ability (or perceived ability) to cope. A gap is created between what a person needs/wants to do, and what they feel they are able to do. There are several reasons for stress; we will focus on stress and time management.
