Programme Director: Konstantina Dina Dedi DipDS, MS, FACP

Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow, UCL Eastman Dental Institute Ms. Konstantina Dina Dedi qualified in Athens Greece in 1994 and after two years of private practice, she moved to USA. for full-time training. She was awarded the USA. Specialization Degree in Prosthodontics (Combined Crown and Bridge Removable and Implant Prosthodontics) in 1997 and the Master of Science in Oral Biology (MSc) Degree in 1999 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Dentistry in USA. as well as a degree in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology in 1998 from the University of Texas-Houston MD Anderson Cancer Center in U.S.A. She then completed a one-year dental teaching fellowship at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry USA. Prior to her current appointment at UCL Eastman Dental Institute, she held the appointments of Clinical Assistant Professor in Prosthodontics, Director of Removable Prosthodontics Clinics and Director of the ITI Scholarship Program in the Prosthodontic Department of the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry in USA Ms Dedi was awarded the prestigious Diplomate specialty status from the American Board of Prosthodontics in 2002. She has been elected a Fellow of the International Team of Oral Implantology (ITI) and the American College of Prosthodontics and she held memberships in the Academy of Osseointegration, the International College of Prosthodontics and currently the American Dental Society of London. In her previous appointment with UNC School of Dentistry, Ms. Dedi had been teaching in the postgraduate specialty programs of prosthodontics and implant

dentistry, she was the course leader of the Removable Partial Denture undergraduate preclinical course and she was involved in several continuing professional development courses. She has presented numerous lectures and continuing education courses in U.S.A., Europe and the Middle East on anterior aesthetics and immediate loading of dental implants. Ms Dedis main research areas of interest are: Dental Implants Immediate Loading and Anterior Implant Aesthetics. Director, Eastman CPD: Professor Andrew Eder BDS, MSc, LDS RCS, MFGDP, MRD RCS, FDS RCS, FHEA Professor of Restorative Dentistry and Dental Education Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics Associate Dean, UCL School of Life and Medical Sciences Chair, Division of Clinical Education Director of Education Strategy and CPD Unit UCL Eastman Dental Institute Professor Andrew Eder was educated at St. Pauls School in London and qualified from Kings College Hospital School of Medicine and Dentistry in 1986. In 1989, Andrew moved to the Eastman for his postgraduate training and completed a Masters in Conservative Dentistry. Currently, Professor Eder is Chair of the Division of Clinical Education, Head of the CPD Unit and an Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. As a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, he also maintains a referral specialist private practice in central London. Professor Eder has been involved in clinical research into the development of adhesively retained ceramic and alloy restorations in the management of tooth wear and is Clinical Director of the London Tooth Wear Centre. Academic interests also include educational research into online methods of teaching delivery and innovative technology as well as educational feedback and impact on clinical practice. Professor Eder is Co-Editor of the BDJ book on Tooth Surface Loss and on the Editorial Boards of the British Dental Journal, Private Dentistry and the European Journal of

Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry. He is a past President of Alpha Omega, the Royal Society of Medicines Odontological Section and the British Society for Restorative Dentistry. Professor Eder is also Chairman of the Charitable Trust of the Alpha Omega London Chapter. http://www.eastman.ucl.ac.uk/staff/academic/edera/index.html Programme Lectures: Dr Chris Louca BSc BDS PhD AKC Director of Education Deputy Director Eastman CPD Programme Director MSc in Restorative Dental Practice Dr Chris Louca trained in dentistry at Kings College London, where he was the recipient of the British Society of Periodontology Undergraduate Prize, the Bayer Dental BSSPD Undergraduate Prize and the John McLean Award. He graduated in 1988. Prior to this he was selected in 1983 for a Medical Research Council Undergraduate Scholarship to intercalate a BSc in Basic Medical Sciences with Physiology. Initial hospital posts in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at St Georges and Kings College hospitals were followed by a Clinical Lectureship in Conservative Dentistry at Kings College London. In 1992 Dr Louca was successful in gaining a Wellcome Clinical Research Training Fellowship to study the neurophysiology of periodontal ligament mechanoreceptors and their role in the jaw opening reflex at Kings College London and Dundee University, leading to a PhD. In 2005 Dr Louca was appointed Senior Clinical Teacher in Primary Dental Care and Director of the Dental Hygiene and Therapy School at Kings College London. In 2007 he joined the Eastman Dental Institute as Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow within CPD. Dr. Louca is currently Director of Education (Operations), Deputy Director of Eastman CPD and Programme Director of the MSc in Restorative Dental Practice. Senior Lecturer, Head of Prosthodontics Unit, UCL Eastman Dental Institute Honorary Consultant in Conservative Dentistry, Eastman Dental Hospital, University College London Hospitals Trust. Dr. Ailbhe McDonald is Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in Restorative Dentistry and Head of the Prosthodontics Unit at the Eastman Dental Hospital and Institute for Health Care Sciences and the Eastman Dental Hospital. She graduated from Dublin Dental Hospital and undertook an MSc in Conservative Dentistry (1985-86) at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Dr. McDonald then followed a Restorative Dentistry training programme and became a Consultant in 1995 and more recently a Senior Lecturer/Honorary Consultant in 2007.

Dr. McDonald gained fellowship at the RCS Edinburgh in 1989 and has recently been awarded a Fellowship ad eundem from RCS England. Since completing her PhD on Lasers Effects on Hard Tissues in 1997 she has been actively involved in translational research and has published widely. Dr. McDonald is the Head of the Prosthodontics Unit and Director of the MClinDent Prosthodontics and MSc Conservative Dentistry programmes the UCL Eastman Dental Institute and lectures nationally and internationally. She is also involved in teaching and distance learning for courses at the CPD, UCL Eastman Dental Institute and Royal College of Surgeons, London. Dr McDonald served on BSRD Council 2000-2003 and is a reviewer for several dental journals. Dr. McDonalds main areas of interest are dental ceramics, implants, the restorative of the endodontically-treated tooth and innovative techniques for minimal cavity preparation. http://www.eastman.ucl.ac.uk/staff/academic/mcdonalda/index.html Dr. Nikos Mardas DipDS, MS, PhD Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology Unit, UCL Eastman Dental Institute Registered Specialist in Periodontics Dr. Nikos Mardas qualified in Dentistry at the University of Athens, Greece in 1992 and he completed his 3 year training as a specialist in Periodontology at the Royal Dental College, University of Aarhus, Denmark in 1997. During the same year, he completed his MS Degree in Periodontology. From September 1997 to September 2000, he was an academic staff member at the Royal Dental College, Department of Periodontology, University of Aarhus, Denmark. In May 2005, he received his PhD degree from the same University following an open to the public defense. From September 2000 to March 2005 Dr. Mardas worked as a Periodontist in his own private practice in Athens Greece and at the same time he was consultant Periodontist in other two private practices. During this period he was an active member of the Hellenic Periodontal Society and he participated in many periodontal and implant workshops while at the same time he was a member of the editorial board of the associated with the society annual Journal. In 2005 Dr. Mardas joined the UCL Eastman Dental Institute as a Clinical Lecturer. Dr. Mardas has expertise in non-surgical and surgical treatment of periodontal disease including conventional and regenerative periodontal surgery, alveolar bone augmentation procedures and dental implants alone or in combination with GTR. His main research areas of interest are: Guided Tissue Regeneration. Periodontal and Bone regeneration with bone grafts and GTR. Effect of growth factors to bone and periodontal wound healing. Biology of bone healing. 4

Mr. Basil Mizrahi BDS MSc(Rand.) MEd Cert in Prosthodontics (USA) Clinical Lecturer UCL Eastman Dental Institute Fellow, American College of Prosthodontics, Specialist in Prosthodontics and Restorative Dentistry Mr. Basil Mizrahi graduated as a dentist from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa in 1989. In 1993, he obtained an MSc in Dentistry at the University of the Witwatersrand majoring in Periodontics. After 5 years in general practice, he moved to the USA to specialize in Prosthodontics at Louisiana State University (LSU), School of Dentistry. In June 1998, Basil graduated from a 3 year full time Prosthodontic program at LSU under the leadership of Dr Gerard Chiche a world leader on anterior aesthetics. During these three years he also completed a Masters Degree in Education at the University of New Orleans. In 1999, Mr. Mizrahi started his own referral based practice in Harley Street, London. He is also a clinical lecturer at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute where he teaches and runs practical hands-on courses for dentists. His on the GDC specialist register for Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics and is one of only a few dentists in the UK to have been awarded Fellowship of the American College of Prosthodontists.

Mr. Rishi D. Patel BDS, MFDSRCS, MS Mr. Rishi Patelgraduated from the University of Bristol- School of Dentistry in 2002. Following the completion of his vocational training, he undertook Senior House Officer posts in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at St Georges Hospital in Tooting and Birmingham Childrens Hospital. Mr. Patel then completed an SHO post in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics at the University of Birmingham Dental School. He then moved to Loma Linda University in California, where he completed his postgraduate training and Master of Sciences degree in Prosthodontics. Following this, he completed a one year Fellowship in Implant dentistry at Loma Linda. Mr. Patel is currently in private practice in London and is an Honorary Clinical Teacher at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Dr. Maria Retzepi DipDS, PhD, MSc, CertClinSpec(Perio), PG Cert. Educ., Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology

Dr. Maria Retzepi received the Diploma of Dental Surgeon from the Dental School, University of Athens, Greece in 1999. She was then awarded the degree of Master of Science in Oral Biology and the Certificate of Clinical Specialisation in Periodontics with distinction in 2003 from the Dental School, University of Athens, Greece, following completion of a three-year specialist training programme. In 2009, Dr. Retzepi received her Doctorate Degree from UCL for her thesis entitled The Effect of Diabetes Mellitus on Guided Bone Regeneration. Dr Retzepi is the recipient of the prestigious Basic Research award by the European Association of Osseointegration. From 2003 until 2005, Dr. Retzepi held the appointments of Clinical Research Fellow and Clinical Instructor, Periodontology Unit, UCL Eastman Dental Institute. In 2005 she received the Papavramides clinical fellowship award and joined the Department of Periodontology and Fixed Prosthodontics, University of Bern, Switzerland. She held this position until 2006 when she was appointed as Clinical Lecturer in Periodontology, UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Dr. Retzepi has extensive clinical expertise acquired during private practice work, specialty training and postgraduate teaching in non-surgical and surgical management of periodontal diseases including access, resective, regenerative and periodontal plastic surgery, dental implants, Guided Bone Regeneration and bone grafting procedures. She is registered Specialist in Periodontics. Her main research interest themes are: Periodontal wound healing, dental implantology and in particular bone augmentation with Guided Bone Regeneration, bone grafting and application of growth factors, effect of diabetes mellitus on osseointegration and bone regeneration, gene expression profiling in periodontal and osseous wound healing. Dr Retzepi frequently lectures to national and international professional bodies. Mr. Pareet Shah BDS MFDS RCPS MClinDent.(Prosthodontics) MRD RCS(Eng), Specialist in Prosthodontics Mr. Pareet Shah graduated as a dentist from Kings College London in 1999 with Distinction. Following posts in hospital and general practice he gained his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2002. He began specialist training in Prosthodontics at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute in 2004. He was awarded his Master of Clinical Dentistry with Distinction in 2007 along with the Commemorative Prize in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics for clinical and academic excellence. Mr. Patels specialist training was completed in 2008 with the award of the Membership in Restorative Dentistry qualification from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Mr. Robert Stone BDS MSc Con Dent Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow, UCL, Eastman Dental Institute.

Mr. Robert Stone undertook his dental training at The University of Birmingham, following which he worked in a busy general practice for seven years before undertaking the MSc in Conservative Dentistry at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Mr. Stone completed studying full-time for this degree, with Distinction, in September 2003. In addition he won the 3M/ESPE Postgraduate Prize for excellence in clinical and academic achievement during the course of his studies. Mr. Stone joined Mr. Bruce Copes highly regarded practice at 2 Harcourt House as an associate in 2003 and became the principal partner in June 2007. In addition to private practice Robert works as a Senior Clinical Teaching Fellow at the UCL Eastman Continuing Professional Development facility where he is involved in the lecturing and practical clinical teaching for the MSc Restorative Dental Practice along with other stand alone study days on Aesthetics, Occlusion, Bonded Porcelain Restorations and Anterior Composite Restorations. As well as delivering postgraduate education Mr. Stone has maintained his commitment to his professional development, regularly attending study programs in the UK, Europe and the United States.

Mr. Richard Tucker BDS MSc MClinDent MFDS MRD(Perio) RCSEd Specialist in Periodontics. Director and Coordinator of Eastman CPD Periodontal Programmes, UCL Eastman Mr. Richard Tucker qualified with BDS from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1991. He then started in private general dental practice in Kent, England. His first contact with the Eastman Dental Institute was through the Certificate Course in Restorative Dentistry in 1996 and this lead to his interest in specialist training. After 6 years Mr. Tucker moved to London for 3 years of specialist training in Periodontology at the Eastman Dental Institute. Professor Michael Wise qualified from the London Hospital Dental School (University of London) in 1968 - B.D.S. (Hons), L.D.S., R.C.S. (Eng.). In 2007 he was voted 2nd in a national survey by The Dentist of: who had the biggest influence on the UK dental profession. He was the first dentist to be awarded a Harkness Fellowship for two years

study in the USA, and he attended Indiana University between 1970 and 1972 where he obtained his M.Sc.D. in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics. Professor Wise obtained his Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1972. For six years he received one to one training in surgery, being assisted in his practice at all of his surgical procedures by one of the UKs leading oral surgeons. Professor Wise was a part-time Clinical Senior Lecturer at the Eastman Dental Institute in London until 1984 and then a part-time Research Fellow at the Institute. He maintains a private restorative practice in London, which he started in 1974, mainly treating patients who have failure in extensively restored dentitions. Professor Wise is currently Visiting Professor at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. Professor Wise is recognised by The General Dental Council as a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and a Specialist in Oral Surgery. He is a member of many professional societies including the American Academies of Restorative Dentistry and Crown and Bridge Prosthodontics. He has lectured widely both nationally and internationally and is the author of many publications including a 10-part series on Occlusion and Restorative Dentistry published in the British Dental Journal in 1982 and subsequently produced as a BDJ handbook. He has written a text Failure in the Restored Dentition : Management and Treatment, published in English, Italian , German and Russian versions by Quintessence Publishing Company in February 1995. In the last year besides lecturing in the UK Professor Wise has lectured in America (to the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics, The American Equilibration Society and a 2 day course to a group from The University of Michigan), Russia and Italy. He has devoted a substantial part of his professional life to teaching and it is his view that being a practicing clinician enhances what he has to offer to the practitioner. Professor Wise firmly contends that clinical practice should be based as far as possible on a sound analysis of the literature.

Ms. Theodora Bravis DipDS MClinDent MFDS MRD Specialist in Prosthodontics Ms. Theodora Bravis qualified from Guys and St Thomas Hospital with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery. She then worked in hospital and private practice, being exposed to all aspects of general and specialist dentistry. After becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2005, Ms. Bravis returned to Guys Hospital to pursue specialist training in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, and completed her training with distinction, Ms. Bravis is a registered specialist in Prosthodontics

Mr. Greg Finn Specialist Prosthodontist and Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry, UCL Eastman Dental Institute Greg is a Specialist Prosthodontist. Since 1996 has been teaching restorative dentistry to post-graduates at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute on a number of programs including

the RDP Certificate Diploma and Masters degree programs. He has taught Cosmetic Dentistry with Dr Basil Mizrahi and Sports Dentistry with Dr Barry Scheer and Dr Andrew Croysdill. He is also teaching on the UCL Eastmans Certificate in Aesthetic Dentistry with Dr Dina Dedi. Some of the topics he teaches include: Occlusion, occlusal splint therapy, direct and indirect aesthetic dentistry with composite resins and ceramics, bridge design, restoration of implants, clinical photography, management of cracked cusps, anterior an posterior crown preparation, microdentistry. Greg graduated from the University of Queensland, Australia in 1982 and moved to the UK in 1984. He worked in NHS practice for six years. In 1990 he co-founded the Quality Care Association, a group of independent dentists who moved out of the NHS. He set up his own private practice in 1994. In 1996 he completed his Masters in Conservative Dentistry at the UCL Eastman Dental Institute. His research work was in ceramics. He lectures both in the UK and abroad. Ms. Anna Gibilaro BDS Hons, DDS, MSc, MOrth RCSEng, FDS RCSEng, FDS Orth RCSEng Consultant Orthodontist Ms. Anna Gibilaro is a Consultant in Orthodontics at Guys Hospital London and a Specialist in Private Practice in Cavendish Square, London. Her special interests are both in adult and childrens orthodontics with an emphasis on complex multidisciplinary treatments as well as cosmetic treatments in adults. She works closely with other specialists in childrens dentistry, maxillofacial and plastic surgery. Ms. Gibilaro trained and worked both in the UK and USA. She graduated from University of London Dental School in 1988 with a BDS Hons. She was awarded with the highest number of distinctions and awards in the University of London Dental Schools in that year. After working for 2 years in Oral Surgery and obtaining a Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons England for which she was awarded the Gold Medal, she went on to study Orthodontics at Kings College London from 1990 to 1993. She obtained a Masters in Orthodontics at The University of London in 1992, and a Membership in Orthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1993, thereby completing her specialist training. In 1994 Ms. Gibilaro went to work in the USA at the University of North Carolina for two years and then the University of Missouri Kansas City where she was an Assistant Professor in Orthodontics for a further two years. She was the Orthodontic Consultant on the Craniofacial and Cleft Lip and Palate teams at the Childrens Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. While in the United States Ms. Gibilaro obtained her Doctorate in Dental Surgery in 1998 and her American National and State Board qualifications. In her National Boards she achieved one of the highest scores in the United States (98 percentile).

Ms. Gibilaro was Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Orthodontic Review for two years while in the USA. For this work she was awarded with a distinguished faculty award at the University of Missouri in 1999. Upon returning to the UK she was awarded with a Fellowship in Orthodontics from the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Ireland and Scotland in 2000. Ms. Gibilaro has published book chapters and scientific articles in Orthodontics. She has presented, and continues to present, both nationally and internationally in Europe and the United States. Mr. George Papageorgakopoulos DDS, MS Specialist in Periodontology Mr. George Papageorgakopoulos qualified from University of Thessaloniki School of Dentistry and spent his military service as an officer dentist. He then moved to the University of Louisville in Kentucky USA, where he completed three years of postgraduate specialty training in Periodontology and Implants and a MS degree in Oral Biology. George joined University of Louisville as an Assistant Professor of Periodontology, where he taught at the predoctoral and as senior graduate faculty at the postgraduate level, and saw patients in the private wings. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and seats on the Board of the Tarson Award Committee for Periodontology. Mr. Papageorgakopoulos moved to London U.K. in 2009 where he spends his time between private practice in Central London and teaching.

Ms. Charlotte Stilwell, Tandlaege Copenhagen - Specialist in Prosthodontic Dentistry - ITI Fellow Education Delegate ITI UK & Ireland Section Ms. Charlotte Stilwell is a Specialist in Prosthodontics. She qualified from The Royal Dental College in Copenhagen in 1983. She moved to London to pursue her interest in removable prosthodontics in the Prosthetic Department at The London Hospital Dental School where she had five years of post-graduate training. From 1988 to 1997 Ms. Sitwell worked in a general dental practice in Kent and as a vocational trainer. Since 1997 she has worked full-time as a referral specialist in fixed and removable prosthodontics in a multi-disciplinary practice in Londons Harley Street. Over the past 20 years Ms. Sitwell has lectured widely and published articles on removable prosthodontics in this country and abroad. She has an interest in implant prosthodontics and treatment/management of occlusion and she is an invited speaker on both of these subjects.

Dr. Effrosyni Tsitrou DDS, MMedSci, PhD

University Clinical Teacher-Department of Adult Dental Care School of Clinical Dentistry-University of Sheffield Dr. Effrosyni Tsitrou is a member of the Department of Adult Dental Care at the University of Sheffield, School of Clinical Dentistry, where she is responsible for the teaching of students on all aspects of Restorative Dentistry. Her postgraduate studies included a MMedSci in Restorative Dentistry/Adhesive Dentistry and a postgraduate Diploma in Operative Dentistry. Dr. Tsitrou has a particular interest in the application of CAD/CAM techniques for the fabrication of indirect fixed prosthesis and the application of minimal intervention techniques, which was the subject of her PhD study. She is currently working on developing minimal preparation guidelines for CAD/CAM bridges using laboratory experiments and finite element techniques and also comparative studies on different CAD/CAM systems. She is author/co-author of academic papers on CAD/CAM systems and on dental education. Dr. Tsitrou is a member of IADR/BSDR (International Association of Dental Research), UKSB (UK Society of Biomaterials) and ISCD (International Society of Computerized Dentistry) and has presented her work in many national and international meetings. As a CEREC user she has a lot of experience in designing all types of fixed restorations fabricated with this system either at the chairside or in the lab.

Mr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya D.D.S M.S. Mr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya is Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. He is the Founder and Director of the Mediterranean Prosthodontic Institute and maintains a private practice limited to dental implant surgery and prosthodontics in Castelln, Spain. He lectures extensively worldwide. Mr. Rojas received his DDS degree at the University Javeriana School of Dentistry in Bogota, Colombia. He received a Doctorate in Buccal Surgery and his University Specialty Degrees in Oral Medicine and Implant Surgery at the University Complutense in Madrid. He received additionally training in Oral Surgery at Gregorio Maran Hospital in Madrid, Spain . Mr. Rojas completed his full-time post-graduate training and specialty degree in Prosthodontics along with a Master of Sciences Degree in Prosthodontics, and a Fellowship in Oral Implantology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
