POSITION TITLE The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Program Coordinator, International Student Programs (anticipated)

PROFILE of the UNIVERSITY

UNLV is a comprehensive research university of approximately 27,000 students and 2,800 faculty and staff dedicated to teaching, research, and service. The university has internationally recognized programs in hotel administration and creative writing; professional degrees in law, architecture, and dental medicine; and leading programs in fine arts, sciences and education. This position exists to provide and market social, educational, and cultural programming opportunities for international and domestic students. The Program Coordinator provides direct advising for the International Council as well as support and advocacy for affiliated international student organizations. The Program Coordinator works to provide an inclusive and supportive campus environment for approximately 1300 international students. Responsibilities include coordinating campus wide programs to support international students social and academic integration into the UNLV community and coordinating cultural and international education programs (i.e. Festival of Communities, International Education Week, and Global Leadership Retreat) for the entire campus community. Through the intentional use of student learning theory, student involvement theory, cultural-identity development theory, and the Social Change Model of Leadership Development this position works to enhance a growing sense of community by fostering students awareness and appreciation for diversity. Administrative functions include budget management and risk management. Requires a masters degree from an accredited institution in student personnel work, higher education administration, or closely related field; and one year of relevant experience as a Graduate Assistant or post-bachelors. Experience with event planning, group/individual advising, and international student programs required. Successful candidates will have the ability to assess student needs, value a high degree of student contact, able to interact effectively with a wide diversity of people, have excellent interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate well in verbal and written form. Successful candidates will have an understanding of student development theory and cultural identity theory. Experience with outcomes assessment and analysis is preferred. Salary competitive with those at similarly situated institutions. Position is contingent upon funding.
