Mgt.2 Organizational culture overview- is made up of a set of characteristics which had been developed over the years.

Three layers of culturelayer i-includes visible artifacts and creations which may not be interpreted; Layer ii- includes the things that are valuable to people; Layer iii- are the basic assumptions which people use to guide their behavior. Socialization and culture Socialization is the process by which an organization brings new employees to the organization.it is said that socialization is a new continuous prodess throuhout an individuals career. It is the transmittal of values, attitudes,practices and traditions in the workplace from older to younger employees. Stages of socialization 1. Anticipatory socialization-thes includes the activities that an individual undergoes prior to entering an organization. Acquire as much information as possible about his prospective job and the organization. 2. Accommodation the individual is now accepted on the job and he tries to fit in the organizations culture.begins to adapt with the new cultureclarifies the role in the organization and learns his assigned tasks and responsibilities. 3. Role management- accompanied with relationships and tasks, are conflicts which may arisefrom time to time.tries to deal with conflicts say between work and home between himself and co-employee or superior.

Can organizational culture be change? -it is extremely difficult to change a companys culture. Yet , organizatioin culture can be change.cultural change. Cultural change can take place in an organization when some if not most of the following conditions exist: 1. A crisis or state of emergengy-this is a situation charactirized by a sudden setback that challenges include a heavy financial loss. 2. Turnover in leadership-when a competent leader exits,and a new leader comes in, the organization can have a new set of values that are more capable to responed to the present crisis. 3.young and small organization-management of young and small organization can easily communicate new sets of values. 4.weak culture- it is easily to change a weak culture, where values are not deeply entrenched among it members. Filipinos values: Amor propio- is the need of a filipino to be treated with dignity and respect. Bahala na is a optimistic fatalism. Hiya is a feeling of inferiority, ambarrasment, shyness and alienation. Pakikisama- is the desire of filipinosto mingle with the other people. Utang na loob- refers to the feeling of gratitude, obligations or indebtedness for a favor recieved from another.
