Update on State Board work to revise Achievement Index!

Background! ESEA waiver gives SBE one year to develop new state accountability system! SBE created Achievement & Accountability Workgroup (AAW) to study the issue and advise SBE on the (re)development of the Index! Materials from their meetings are available at the SBE Web site:! http://www.sbe.wa.gov/aaw.php ! ! ESEA Requirements for a new Index include:! Discontinue the rating of achievement relative to peers! Measures of student prociency and growth -- student growth percentiles! Data disaggregated by student subgroups! ! Questions currently being addressed by the AAW! What specic sub-indicators should be included in the revised Index to measure career and college readiness?! Should the revised Index include language acquisition data? Should the revised Index include a subgroup of former ELLs?! What is the best way to address student subgroups in a revised Index?! Which sub-indicators should be norm-referenced and which should be criterionreferenced?! ! Other probable outcomes! Improvement may continue to be measured and reported, but may not be a part of the Index! Content area tests will be equally weighted!
