PRAY FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA AND HIS ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. should consider automatically registering eligible voters and extending voting hours, Attorney General Eric Holder said in a speech in Boston, calling Americas voting system antiquated and an administrative nightmare. President Obama said that while the U.S. fully acknowledged the coalition of Syrias rebels as the legitimate opposition to the Assad regime, groups among them with ties to Al-Qaeda will not be tolerated. Pray for President Obama and his Administration as they deal with issues both foreign and domestic.

PRAY FOR OUR CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS

House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio) told Congress to be ready for an extended session over the holidays because of the slow pace of fiscal talks and gridlock over raising taxes on the wealthy and extensive spending cuts. Senator Tom Coburn (Oklahoma), often called Dr. No, said the GOP should swallow hard and accept higher tax rates on wealthy Americans which, he believes, would have the least effect on the economy as a whole. Pray that Congress and the President will be able to forge a bipartisan agreement that avoids the fiscal cliff.

PRAY FOR OUR JUDICIARY

A federal judge ruled a plan by North Carolina to offer Choose Life license plates is unconstitutional, saying the state cannot issue the plates without offering a similar product to the opposing viewpoint. A federal appeals court in Chicago ruled the Second Amendment protects a broad public right to carry a ready-to-use gun in public, for purposes of self-defense, striking down an Illinois law on gun-control. Pray for our judges who deal with issues of Constitutionality to have wisdom and depth of understanding.

PRAY FOR THESE NATIONAL LEADERS IN THE NEWS THIS WEEK:

Tom Vilsack, United States Secretary of Agriculture. Peter Welch, United States Representative from Vermont. Judge Thomas Griffith, U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Columbia Circuit. SEAL Team Six, United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group.

OTHER PRAYER CONCERNS:

WARS AND TERRORISM
The Taliban will attend a meeting in France to talk about Afghanistans future but will not discuss peace and reconciliation. The meeting is not intended to produce any significant results, said a spokesman for the militants. Military counterterrorism officials are seeking more capability to pursue extremist groups in Africa and elsewhere that they believe threaten the U.S. and the Obama Administration may ask Congress for such expanded authority. Pray that Americas leaders will remain ever vigilant as the threat of terrorism has not diminished.

FOREIGN INTERESTS AND CONFLICTS

North Koreas Wednesday rocket launch is hailed by them as successful, a huge publicity coup for its new young leader, with the U.S. calling it a highly provocative act, and a potential test for intercontinental ballistic missiles. The U.S. is sending more than 20 F-16 fighter jets to Egypt as part of a $1 billion foreign aid package despite that nations current instability. Some Congressional members argue that America should not be an arms supplier to Egypt. Pray about the ever-increasing militaristic goals of the nations of the world.

THE ECONOMY
The heavily unionized state of Michigan took a big step toward encouraging investment with right-to-work legislation that prohibits union membership as a condition of employment. About 100,000 more people left California than relocated there according to the Census Bureau. Many are going to Texas or Florida or other states with no personal income tax, as taxing levels continue to escalate in the Golden State. Even as you focus on the national economy, pray for the states that must live with balanced budgets.

ISRAEL AND THE MIDDLE EAST

The U.S. has given six military helicopters to the Lebanese air force bolstering forces that have been struggling to deal with violence spreading over the border from Syria. The Palestinian Authority may file charges against Israel with the UN International Criminal Court over the Israeli governments decision to build 3,000 housing units in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Please pray for Gods protection over Israel and Jerusalem, His holy city.

HEALTH CARE
The Obama Administration gave conditional approval for health insurance marketplaces being set up by six states Colorado, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Oregon and Washington. It rejected plans from other states. A new study suggests that, while low-dosage aspirin may help in preventing heart attacks and strokes, the use of coated aspirins may negate the effect. Other studies show some men are resistant to the effect of aspirin at all. Pray about the nations health care issues particularly as more parts of the Affordable Health Care Act go into effect. For these nationslisten to fortune-tellers and to diviners. But as for you, the LORD your God has not allowed you to do this. The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me [Moses] from among you, from your brothers it is to him you shall listen. Deuteronomy 18:14-15
