Voxel M E T H O D O L O G Y In 2005 the research on voxel graphics in archaeology led to the integration of Paraview in ArcheOS (2007). The method is still valid and has been applied in different projects.

Metodo aramus In 2006 ArcheOS was chosen to support the archaological mission of Aramus (AM), conducted by the University of Innsbruck. A new photomapping technique was developed during the excavation (metodo Aramus) and soon adopted in other projects.

A FLOS platform for remote sensing M E T H O D O L O G Y In 2008, after a preliminary researche on open source drones, Arc-Team build a prototype of UAVP. Its use in combination with ArcheOS allows users to perform aerial archaeological projects using just open software and hardware

Fabric analysis M E T H O D O L O G Y Between 2008 and 2012 some experiments, done during the excavation of Montebelluna (IT), led to a better selection between statistical software in ArcheOS. The tests were based on fabric analysis techniques.

CV M E T H O D O L O G Y In 2009 some tests with SfM and IBM applications reactivated this branch of research in archaeology. The collaboration with computer vision specialists ended with the development of PPT-GUI and its integration in ArcheOS (2011)

M E T H O D O L O G Y

Automatic archaological drawing In 2010 the attempt to speed-up timeexpencive artefact drawing in arcaheology led to the development of a computerized technique, based on the software Stippler and to the development of Stippler-GUI

3D PDF Thanks to the MeshLab development team (CNR-ISTI), since 2011 it is possible to produce 3D PDF using ArcheOS. Currently the problem is to visualize the documents, as the system is missing a good PDF reader, with U3D file integration.

M E T H O D O L O G Y

VTP & QGIS M E T O D O L O G Y In 2012, thanks to the work of Roberto Angeletti (aka BobMax), an experimental package has been added to ArcheOS repository. The software allows to combine QGIS and VTP and it is actually under heavy development.

PyArcInit M E T O D O L O G Y The same experimental package has been integrated with a provisional version of PyArchInit, a QGIS archaeological extension developed by Luca Mandolesi and Enzo Cocca.

Professional archaeological project Since 2005 ArcheOS is used by Arc-Team for archaeological projects. Over the years other professional companies (e.g. Studio Sestante) adopted ArcheOS as operating system

Aramus Excavations and Fieldschool Since 2006 ArcheOS is a matter of teaching in the fieldschoolds of Innsbruck University (Aramus, AM and Khovle Gora, GE).

Cost Surface Analysis and Least Cost Path P R O J E C T S In 2010 ArcheOS was used to compare the results of a classic topographic research and the output produced by GRASS through CSA and LCP analysys. The project was directed by the Archeological Suprintendece of Trento and the comparison returned an high percentage of overlap.

Archeological facial reconstruction In 2012 started a collaboration between Cicero Moraes (BR) and Arc-Team (IT) to test the potentialities of facial reconstruction with Free and Open Source Softwares

ArcheOS community includes archaeologists, architects, artist...

Sharing knowledge Teachings University of Innsbruck (AT) and Lund (SVE), Geotechnology center of S. Giovanni Valdarno (IT) Lessons University of Padua (IT) and Pisa (IT); Livelet Archaeological Park (IT), TOPOI research network of Berlin (DE) Fieldschools: Aramus (AM), khovle Gora (GE), Montebelluna (IT)

Better connection with Open UAV Currently different software are under examination. For UAVP-NG drones qngcrtl seems to be the best option, been the most advanced ground control client for this prototype.

Augmented Reality D E V E L O P M E N T After the positive results achieved in 2012 with Augmented Reality applications, it is very likely taht next ArcheOS release will include also this branch of computer scince. ARToolKit is one of the most promising candidate to be selected for ArcheOS 5 (codename Theodoric)

Kinect D E V E L O P M E N T Also the support for Kinect and similar hardware is currently under evaluation, due to the good performance of these instruments in lowlight conditions and in 3d real-time data acquiring. RGBDemo has been tested with sutisfactory results.

4D GIS (x,y,z,t) Due to the positive results achieved in 4D GIS integration, ArcheOS Theodoric will support the 3D extension of gvSIG. The tool is able to read obj data, a common 3d file format, useful both in documentation and reconstruction.

Andrea Scianna's script New experiments are planned to further test Andrea Scianna's scritp to connect Blender with PostgreSQL/Postgis and GRASS. In this way ArcheOS would be improved with a better connectivity between different software (3D -DBMS-GIS)

3D scanner M E T O D O L O G Y An other topic currently under examination for ArcheOS Theodoric i related with open source 3d scanner. Two main application are currently under evaluation: Three Phase Scan and MakerScanner.
