Single Camera Production

A single camera method is when only one camera is used to shoot a certain production. This technique is mainly used in the creation prime-dramas, made-forTv movies, music videos and commercials. This method comes with a lot of advantages and disadvantages. DISADVANTAGES...
When using this method it can be quite difficult to take shots using different angles as only one camera is being utilised. Also when editing it can take a bit longer as the editor will have to go through all the shots to nd the shots that the wants to use.

ADVANTAGES...
The advantages of using a single camera in a production is that shots can be taken in the order of exibility and then be put into order when editing, they can also be reconstructed easily. When using a single camera the director doesnt have to worry about where the camera is being positioned, enabling the cameraman to move around the set freely. This technique is popular amongst producers who are working with a low budget; this is for the reason that they only have to use one camera as opposed to using three or four. When using one camera there is more aesthetic control as the lighting can also be altered, this could add a more realistic feel to the scene/production.

HOW IS IT PLANNED?
A single planned production is planned using a storyboard as the cameraman needs to know what shot he is going to use for every scene.

Multi-camera production
EXAMPLES OF PRODUCTION... DISADVANTAGES... A multi camera production is when more than one camera is used in different angles in one production. This technique is used in game shows, talk shows, studio sitcom and soap operas.
This method takes longer to set up and could possibly be more expensive as more equipment is being used. The aesthetic however is not as good as it is when using one camera, as the lighting cannot be altered as easily which could make it seem less realistic. The location in which the footage is shot, is less believable, because with this mode or production, the scenes are generally lmed on set, rather than on a real location. ADVANTAGES...
With multi camera set ups, it allows the cameraman to record the action in multiple shots and angles all in one process. It also captures the best performance from the actors and actresses, due to the numbers of cameras that are being used all the once. It is quicker to lm as they wont have to re-do the same scene over and over again to get different angles, also they can see reactions and emotions through different angles. The transitions from different scenes are smoother as well.

HOW IS IT PLANNED?
A multi camera production is planned using a oor plan, as it allows the producer/director and camareman to know where the cameras are going to be placed in different scenes.
