INTER-CORPS FIRST AID & HOME NURSING COMPETITION

ZONE 6
ST. JOHN AMBULANCE BRIGADE

REGULATIONS & GUIDELINES

1. Nomination Form

1.1 All nomination forms must be duly completed and to be endorsed by their officer/
teacher-in-charge upon submission.

1.2 Incomplete forms will be considered as null and void.

1.3 It is a requirement for the competitors to be issued with school’s Parental Consent
Forms for the event.

1.4 All Nomination Forms and Consent Forms must reach the committee before the
Closing Date, 1st March 2009. Late entries will not be considered.

2. Criteria

2.1 Each participating team shall consist of 6 members, inclusive of 1 reserve and 1
steward / stewardess.

2.2 Bonus points will be awarded to the team with full strength on the actual day of
the competition.

2.3 The Team Leader selected as stated in the nomination form will be the team
commander throughout the competition.

2.4 Competitors in Cadet Category must be under 17 years of age as at 1 January in that
particular year when the competition is held.

2.5 Competitor who has previously participated in the Adult Category shall not be
permitted to be nominated in the Cadet Category.

2.6 Each Corps can ONLY nominate 1 team per category.

2.7 The Team Leader must be an NCO and must be the most senior NCO in rank or
seniority in service if team member holding the same rank with him.

2.8 The Steward must be an NCO.

2.9 Champion teams of previous years will not be allowed to participate in the same
category for more than two years consecutively. However, the teams are allowed to
change at least 2 participants in order to continue taking part in the Competition.
2.10 All Champion Teams from the Adult Category are required to obtain an Adult
First Aid Certificate in the same participating year, before representing the Zone
in the Inter-Zone First Aid and Home Nursing Competition.

3. Security and Safety

3.1 Once the Competition commences, communication in any form is NOT allowed
between/among the participating teams and the spectators.

3.2 Competitors shall report to the respective Station Marshals for their movement.

3.3 No manuals or notes of any kind are allowed in the waiting room.

3.4 Team leader should report any injuries or illnesses immediately to the committee.

3.5 Anyone who notices any unusual activities or dishonest behaviour must report to the
respective Marshals immediately.

4. Reporting

4.1 Competitors are reminded to be punctual for all events.

4.2 Competitors are to report to the Chief Marshal at the waiting room 30 minutes before
the commencement time as stated in the notification letter.

4.3 In any cases, if two or more competitors (including reserve and steward) from the
same team are late for more than 10 minutes, the team might be disqualified from the
competition with Zone Commissioner’s approval.

5. Replacement & Withdrawal

5.1 Replacement of the competitor will be allowed with the approval from the Chairman
of the Organising Committee, not less than one hour before the start of the
Competition.

5.2 Replacement of competitors can only be made from their own reserve team member.

5.3 The reserve will replace whoever is absent, except if the team leader is unable to
participate, then the member next senior in rank will be appointed team leader instead
of the reserve.

5.4 Any teams who wish to withdraw from the competition are to inform the Organising
Committee at least 7 days in advance of the actual competition for planning purposes.

6. Logistic Requisite

6.1 Competitors must bring along their NRIC / Passports / Student ID card for
identification and verification purposes.
6.2 As the emphasis of the competition is on the improvised First Aid, the team is
therefore NOT required to prepare any first aid equipment. However, the team is
required to prepare a pair of disposable gloves, torch light, watches, casualty’s report
form and writing materials for each member during the First Aid case.

6.3 Every members of the team have to be familiarised with the latest Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) procedures, as they will be called upon to perform CPR by the
Judges regardless of their positions in the team.

7.3 At the expiry of the time allocated, all work shall stop and marks shall be awarded
only for work actually done within the allotted time.

7.4 A two-minute sign will be shown two minutes before the end of the relevant events to
prompt participants of the remaining time.

8. Inter-Zone First Aid & Home Nursing Competition

8.1 The Champion Team of the respective categories must represent the Zone to
participate in the National First Aid & Home Nursing Competition held by the
National Headquarters.

9. Tiebreaker

9.1 For Ambulance Adult / Cadet Teams


a) In the event of a tie in the grand total marks,
The team with the higher mark in First Aid (Long Case & Short Case) shall be
the winner.

b) In the event of a tie in the First Aid (Long Case & Short Case) marks,
The team with the higher mark in First Aid (Long Case) shall be the winner.

9.2 For Nursing Adult / Cadet Teams


a) In the event of a tie in the grand total marks,
The team with the higher mark in Home Nursing shall be the winner.
b) In the event of a tie in the f Home Nursing marks,
The team with the higher marks in First Aid (Short Case) shall be the winner.

10. General

10.1 All competitors shall be fully responsible for their own belongings. The Organising
Committee will not be responsible for any loss or damages of belongings during the
Competition.

10.2 All competitors are advised to have a proper meal before reporting for the competition.

10.3 All competitors shall keep the site tidy & clean at all times.

10.4 All Competitors are required to be in full brigade uniform in accordance to the
Brigade Regulation Overseas Edition (1980) at all times. Name tag of the team should
be worn at all times during the competition.

10.5 Any team member who has breached any of the Regulations and Guidelines will lead
to the disqualification of the entire team.

10.6 All decisions of the Chief Judge are final. No appeals by any teams or representatives
would be entertained after judges’ decisions have been announced.

10.7 The Organising Committee reserves the rights to add, delete and amend the
Regulations and Guidelines as and when required without prior notice.
