OBJECTIVE
To determine the density of a regular shape and an irregular shape object.
2.0
INTRODUCTION
Density, like color, odor, melting point, and boiling point, is a physical property of matter. Therefore,
density may be used in identifying matter. Density is defined as mass per unit volume and is
expressed mathematically as d = m/V (d is density, m is mass, and V is volume).

3. A piece of PVC plumbing pipe displaces 60 mL when placed into a container of water. If
the pipe has a mass of 78 g, what is the density of PVC?
5. A steel sphere (V = 4/3 r ) has a radius of 0.5 cm and a mass of 4.15 grams. What is its
density?
