MODELING OF MULTI-COLUMN

MODELING OF MULTI-COLUMN

Research Background
Construction industries in Malaysia (buildings and bridges) are progressing in a fast pace mode. Most of Malaysias bridges built in previous 30 years, does not count seismic loading in the design calculation.

Modeling of Multi-Column Pier of Unskewed Bridge Using STAAD.Pro Under Static and Dynamic Load

Modelling and analysing multi-column pier bridge under static and dynamic load using STAAD.Pro is proposed
Chompreda, P. (2007).

Generate new idea and safety precautions. Produce mitigation plan and financial readiness. A stepping stone to widely practice the seismic loading into bridge design.

Research Objectives
Modelling and analysing multi-column pier bridge under static and dynamic load using STAAD.Pro is proposed To perform static and dynamic analysis of the multi-column pier of unskewed bridge using STAAD.Pro software.

To interpret and compare both static and dynamic results of multi-column pier of unskewed bridge.

Chapter 1:

Introduction

Problem Statement
Bridge design using BS5400 and BD37/01 no provision for seismic loading and design specification. Bridge structural integrity and stability might be affected by frequent vibrations.

According to EC8, Life

Safety Requirement (ULS and DLS) for bridges in

Malaysia are not satisfied

Modelling and analysing using STAAD.Pro for concrete bridge were rarely found.

Comparison of results made between static and dynamic analysis.

Chapter 1:

Introduction

Bridge Overview
Bridge can be made by concrete, steel or timber

Modeling of Multi-Column Pier of Unskewed Bridge Using STAAD.Pro Under Static and Dynamic Load

Bridge in various types is designed to serve varies purposes, geographic condition, span and types of transportation, while aesthetic value is maintained.

It could be designed as single column or multi-column per pier.

Unskewed bridge refers to the direction of bridge that perpendicular to the direction of the underneath pathway. Skewed bridge demonstrate the plan diagonal angle between bridge direction to the underneath pathway.

Modeling of Multi-Column Pier of Unskewed Bridge Using STAAD.Pro Under Static and Dynamic Load

Modelling 2D and 3D of Sultan Azlan Shah Bridge in Perak under FVA, THA and RSA for bridge pier and deck. Bridge deck and pier either in 2D or 3D, shows less than the capacity under Time History Analysis

In 3D Response Spectrum Analysis (RSA), bridge pier bending is bigger than the capacity. The bridge was tested until it cracks at 0.25g and collapse at 0.32g
