ABSTRACT
The candle of Islam has been facing the heavy storms since its inception. Thousands of windstorms
had blown to blow off this candle and thousands of efforts have been done to destroy the ship of
Islam but every storm had to change its direction after colliding with this mountain. There was not a
single tactic of barbarianism that had not been applied against the Muslims of Makkah. The non-
believers and Jews of Madinah had tried their level best to apply every kind of tactics to stop the
spread of Islam. But the message of Islam was supposed to approach every corner of the world and it
continued and within a span of less than a century it gained full control over the two continents and
started knocking at the doors of Europe. The forces which especially became the hurdles in the way
of Islam were Jews and Nusranis. These forces have been continuously fighting against Islam for the
last 1400 years. They fought against Islam with sword as well as other means but in every field defeat
was their destiny. These continuous defeats against Islam have always enhanced the enmity against it.
The tactic to spoil the shape of Islam in order to lessen its worth in the hearts of Muslims was the
most dangerous tactic. The conspiracies of Jews against Islam have been in progress since beginning
but with the materialistic development of Europe, the Islamic enmity became a science and the
conspiracies adopted a very heinous shape. The people who took the responsibility to spoil the image
of Islam and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in the name of educational research are called Oriental. The
need arises over here Before answering the objections of Oriental we need to have a look on the
history of this movement, its aims and objectives, its way of attack and the causes which affected the
Muslims, so that the readers could clearly get the background of these objections.

INTRODUCTION
A very common definition of Orientalism
is as follows:-
The involvement of non-eastern people in
the eastern languages, civilization,
philosophy, literature and religion and to
get themselves busy in its study is called
Orientalism.
The definition of Orient according to latest
Oxford Dictionary is as follows:-
Orient is one who gets skill in the eastern
literature and studies.

The concept of Orient according to Al-
Manjid is as follows:
The scholar of eastern languages,
literatures and studies is called Orient and
the name of its study is Orientalism. (Al-
Azhari, 1983)
Means Orient is one who is the expert of
eastern languages and history.
Dr. Ahmad Abdul Hameed Ghurab in his
book Rooyat-ul-Islamia-lillah has
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
66 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
mentioned some definitions of
Orientalism. Some are as follows:-
1. Orientalism is the name of western
thinking and its foundation is based
on the ideology of racial division
of east and west. According to it
the western people have a racial
and cultural superiority over
eastern people.
2. The educational research which the
western scholars, on the basis of
their racial superiority, have done
in the guise of neutral research on
the history, civilization, languages,
literature, political & social
systems and wealth resources, it is
called Orientalism.
3. Orientalism is the name of that
western tactic, the purpose of
which is to re-shape the political
system of east to get control over
it.
Although the last two definitions give
us some hint about the exploitative
intentions but they dont give us any
hint about the actual intentions hidden
in their hearts which were revealed by
our Allah thousands of years ago (Al-
Azhari, 1983)

Thats why Allama Shibli Naumani
writes while pointing out these hidden
intentions, Morgulewis had read
every single word of six
comprehensive books of Imam Ahmad
bin Humbal and we can claim that
in our time even any Muslim cannot
claim to have grip in that skill but the
biography which the professor has
written about the life of Holy Prophet,
the history of world cannot present an
example of prejudice more than this
book. The only art it has is that it can
change the simplest and most common
incident, in which there is not even the
slightest bad element present, into
worst form( Naumani, 1991)
Keeping in view the different sects of
Oriental and the secret motives which
can be felt from their practical struggle
and which are often expressed by
Oriental also, they can be defined as
follow:-
The westerns partly and the Jews
especially, who studied the religions,
languages, civilization, history,
literature, human values, national
qualities and resources of eastern
people especially those of Muslim
community in the guise of research,
with this intention that they could
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
67 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
impose their religion and civilization
on these nations by making them their
mental slave and can exploit their
resources by getting political influence
over them, those people are called
Oriental and the movement with which
those people are attached is called
Orientalism Movement(Azhari, 1991)

THE OBJECTIVES OF
ORIENTALISM MOVEMENT
In order to shorten the debate, we will
describe the several objectives of
Oriental under four headings.

1. Religious Objectives
Although Orientalism Movement is
known as the educational movement
but it is not difficult to decide for the
student of history of this movement
that the actual purpose under which
this movement was initiated was
religious. There were three basic
objectives they had in their mind
regarding their religion while turning
towards the Islamic knowledge.
(i) Islam should be stopped to
spread, partly among the
nations of world and especially
in the Christian and Jewish
nations.
(ii) Efforts should be made to
convert the Muslims to
Christians.
(iii) The third reason regarding the
Christians to take interest in
Arabic language and eastern
knowledge was that some
people appeared at that time
among them who thought it
better to trust the Hebrew
translations of their holy book
instead of other translations in
European languages in order to
know about the actual Christian
belief ( Al-Jabri, 1995)

2. Educatonal Objectives
The entire movement of Oriental
works under the educational cover. All
the tasks are included in the
educational efforts including the
establishment of educational
institutions all over the world, to get
eastern education in the universities, to
publish different books, to publish the
translations of Arabic books in
different languages, to compile books
on different topics etc. But as it is
mentioned earlier, the actual purpose
behind all these efforts was not to
serve the education sector but to
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
68 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
compete with the Muslims and Islam
in the guise of service of education.
The objective of educational efforts of
most of the Oriental is this but this rule
cannot be applied on all. There were
many people among Oriental who had
spent their lives in the field of
educational research purely with the
intention to get just education and to
serve in this sector and this fact can be
easily noted by reading their scripts.
They have served on different other
topics of education except Islam and
their services are undoubtedly
commendable. They have also written
such things on the Islamic topics
which are presented with full justice.
Although there are many wrong facts
also found in these writings but the
reason is that a person cannot avoid
this thing to write some wrong facts in
his writings who is not a Muslim and
there is a heap of books available to
him that is full with poisonous
propaganda against Islam. So such
types of mistakes are obvious from
that person. Keeping aside the element
of honesty and dishonesty, Oriental
turned towards the eastern knowledge
due to number of educational
objectives. Knowledge is wealth,
power, light, beauty and ornament of
human beings. The eastern especially
Muslims were the owners of this
wealth. The jewels of this wealth were
spread everywhere in the premises of
these countries. These treasures were
saved in the form of manuscripts and
books and also in the form of moral
values which gives the guarantee of
glorious life to nations (Al-Azhari,
1983)

3. Economical Objectives
Along with religious and educational
objectives, some economical
objectives were also in mind before
Oriental due to which they turned
towards the study of eastern languages
and other circumstances of the east.
The western especially the Italians had
very strong and longstanding
economical relationships with the
eastern. In order to strengthen and
improve their economical ties with the
eastern, they considered it necessary to
learn the Arabic language. Thats why
they started paying special attention to
learn Arabic language. It was the result
of these efforts that in 1965, the
economical agreement between the
traders of Tunisia and Italy was drafted
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
69 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
in Arabic. After the fourth Christian
attack, the Italians changed their
attitude about the Muslims as
compared to other Christian forces.
They tried to form good and healthy
relationships with the Islamic block.
These efforts also helped them in
understanding the eastern languages
and civilizations. The western became
greedy by looking at the treasures of
wealth in the east. We can realize this
thing in the writing of one of the
Orients which he has written in his
book. He expressed his views in the
following wordings: I am looking at
the pleasant and beautiful scenes in my
imagination when we would be living
in the charming areas of Babul where
there would be beautiful rows of trees.
The local black people would evacuate
the beautiful areas of northern Iraq for
us and moved towards the far away
areas of south so that they could
cultivate wheat for us, Germans
(Ibrahim, 1993)

4. Political Objectives
The political objectives were at the top
of list amongst those for which
Oriental turned towards the eastern
nations. The political objective can be
expressed under two headings in the
western nations.
(a) To have complete political
influence over the whole Islamic
block
(b) To establish the Israeli state.
With the passage of time as man has
been becoming more and more
civilized, he does not think it against
the basic rights and manners to capture
the rights of other nations but he
doesnt prefer to adopt the way of
power and war to meet his objectives.
However, he wants to achieve his
targets and goals through cheating, lies
and conspiracy. Although, he uses
power if it is needed. The clear
example of this thing can be observed
in Gulf Wars in which the civilized
people of USA and west showed their
barbarianism. The western saw a
dream to capture the Islamic countries
but for this purpose they considered it
illogical to use sword by keeping in
mind their harsh experiences of
centuries. They formed such parties of
human beings who have worn the
beautiful robes of social welfare and
service of education. Their duty was to
create such circumstances in the
Islamic countries so that when the
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
70 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
western move forward to take control
over these countries then there should
not be even the slightest chance of any
resistance from the local people. The
people who were selected for this job
were divided into two groups. One
group was the one who took the guise
of education lovers. They were given
the name Oriental. The other group
was the one who took the
responsibility to divert the eastern
especially Muslims towards
Christianity by adopting different
strategies. This group was called
Mubashir. The western told the
Muslims that their religion instructed
them to give punishments to criminals
that are cruel and inhumane. There is
no place for such types of punishments
in this developed and civilized world.
They tried to skip Jihad from the lives
of Muslims. Muslims were given the
invitation of western civilization by
turning them away from their own
identity and civilization. The western
got these objectives through the hands
of Oriental and Mubashireens. The
motive behind this step was that the
result could come out in two situations
when the thoughts and ideology of
Oriental would influence the Muslims.
First possibility was that Muslim
Ummah as a whole would accept these
attractive thoughts. In this way the
strong castle of Islam would collapse
and the entire Muslim nation would
become the prey of chaos. Resultantly
this nation would not remain able to
show any kind of resistance. The other
possibility was that one group of
Muslims would accept the western
ideology and civilization but the other
group would oppose it by taking it as a
attack on the Islamic values and
ideology. The entire Islamic nation
would also divide in this situation also.
In order to achieve these targets, the
forces behind the back screen spent a
lot of money on Oriental and
Mubashireens. These groups and
parties tried their level best to divert
the Muslims from their religion by
using this money through educational
institutions, hospitals, social welfare
institutions, relief projects for poor and
deceased, newspapers, magazines and
books (Al-Azhari, 1983)

OBJECTIONS OF
ORIENTALISTS AND THEIR
ANSWERS

Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
71 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
ObjectionNo-1 on the Holy Quran
for Being the Book of Allah
Muslims believe that Holy Quran is
the book of Allah that was revealed in
the heart of Holy Prophet (SAW)
through his angel Hazrat Jabriel (AS).
The wordings and meanings of this
holy book are all said by Allah not by
any human being. Oriental refused to
accept the Holy Quran as the book of
Allah in order to spoil the character of
Holy Prophet (SAW). They openly
said that Holy Quran is not the book of
Allah. Rather it is a book of Hazrat
Muhammad (SAW). Now just have a
look on some of the pieces of writing
of Oriental to see how cunningly they
express the thoughts of non-believers
of Mukkah in their writings.
George Cell writes in his book:
I am apt to believe that few or none of
the relations or circumstances in the
Koran were invented by Muhammad,
as is generally supposed, it being easy
to trace the greatest part of them much
higher (George, 1890)
Arthur Geoffrey writes in his book:
hammads deliverances during the
twenty odd years of his.. It
contains the substance of public
ministry. It is clear that he had been
preparing a book for his community
which would be for them what the old
testament was for the jews and the new
testament for the Christians, but he
dies before his book was ready, and
what we have in the quran is what his
followers were able to gather after his
death and issue as the corpus of his
revelations (Arthur ,1979)

Answer
But this image appears in the mind of a
person after reading these extracts of
Oriental that these people are fully
agreed on this point that Quran is not
the book of Allah. Jews and Christians
mutually believe that basically the
wordings of Quran are taken from
Bible. We question from them that
neither Quran has verified the
statements of Bible nor rejectet them.
Wherever Quran has refused to accept
the statements of Bible, it has also
presented very forceful arguments
against it. One should tell from where
had the holy Prophet (SAW) got this
wisdom and knowledge? If he was not
the prophet of Allah then why couldnt
the delegation of Christians who came
from Najran convinced the Holy
Prophet (SAW) in a open debate? We
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
72 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
are justified in asking from Oriental
that is there any one hypothesis among
the all presented by them logical which
they used to present regarding the
writing of Holy Quran (Al-Azhari,
1983)

Objection No2-Nothing New in Holy
Quran
Orientalist have tried to spread this
view against Holy Quran in the public
that there is nothing new in the
teachings of Holy Quran. George Cell
says, I am sure there is nothing new
which the Holy Prophet (SAW) has
introduced. Rather whatever is said in
the Holy Quran can be easily found in
the old books. It is very common
among Oriental that whatever is new
in Quran is wrong and whatever is
right is not new.

Answer
It is true that most of the points in
Islam are not new but this objection is
not right that Islam has adopted or got
these things from some human source.
Islam has never claimed that whatever
facts it has presented were not
presented before by any prophet. Islam
has only claimed that from Hazrat
Adam (A.S) to Hazrat Muhammad
(SAW) all the prophets had delivered
the same message of Allah to people.
Truth is unchangeable and it doesnt
change with the passage of time. Now
keeping in view the doubts of Oriental
if it is supposed that the authenticity of
a holy book is judged on the parameter
that it should be similar with any other
holy book then there would be no
concept of holy book left. In that
situation it would be better to say that
every prophet should bring his own
book for his own people. This situation
would not only create problem for the
Muslims but for the Christian Oriental
as well (George, 1890)

ObjectionNo-3 = the Rejection of
Quranic Verses

There are few verses in the Holy
Quran which are quite contrary to each
other. Muslim scholars deal with these
verses through some proper rules.
They are of the view that Allah had
revealed some orders in the beginning
but due to certain reasons, they were
cancelled ( George,1890)

Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
73 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
In support of their view, the Muslim
scholars present the following verse
from the Holy Quran:
[ O 1 N + O + O 1 N [ O [ ] v N [ + ~ N [

We reveal another similar or better
verse in place of the one, which we
cancelled. Al-Quran (verse106)

Concept of Cancellation

Answer
The wordily meaning of Cancel is to
remove or copy.
O 1 v g + O + [ C + g C O + O + C + 7

The wind has removed the image of
footprints.
The brief definition of Cancellation is
as follows:
C + + O [ C 4 / C [ O [ ] C O E

Means to seize the direction of one
verse with the other verse based on
fact.

Conditions of Cancellation:Al-
Azhari(1977).
There are few conditions that are
required for the effectiveness of rule of
cancellation.

(a) The cancelled order should
be the partial or practical
order proved from Quran
and Sunnah. Moreover,
there should be no
condition of time related
with that verse. Also, the
new verse should be
superior than the cancelled
one.
(b) The cancelled verse should
be the verse of Quran or the
Sunnah of Holy Prophet.
Mustafa (Shabli, 1983)

ObjectionNo-4. the Forgetting of
Quranic Verses
Oriental do not accept Quran as the book
of Allah and tried their level best to prove
it as the book written by Holy Prophet
(SAW). Thats why one of their objections
is that there are such indications in the
holy Quran which show that some verses
of Quran were slipped away from the mind
of Holy Prophet (SAW) by Allah.
Just see the wordings of Mintgomrey:
It is next to be noted however that is one
or two passages of the Holy Quran
envisages that Muhammad may forget
verses and this of course is tantamount to
revision by omission or deletion even
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
74 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
though the forgetting is caused by God.
Incidentally, this implies that the
revelations were not written down.
(Montgomrey , 1988)
The verse of Holy Quran which
Montgomrey Watt has pointed out is:
+ C _ C ] [ + C + O 1 g ) 1 E + ^ O N C O C ] E ) + C + C O C +

And remember your God when you
forget something and say that I hope my
God will show me the clear path better
than the previous one. Al-Quran
Thats why in response to their objection,
Allah said that:
[ O 1 N + O + O 1 N [ O [ ] v N [ + ~ N [

We reveal another verse better or at least
same as the previous one if we cancel
some verse. AlQuran
In another verse of Surah Al- Aala, Allah
says:
g ^ [ O ) 1 E + [ O [ = +
We will teach you by ourselves. You will
forget nothing except what Allah wishes.
Al-Quran

Answer
In the first verse Allah says that we used to
reveal different proofs of our power and
reveals different verses for the guidance of
the people. We keep the verses in the
hearts of people which we wish them to
remember and forget others that we want
them to forget. This is the Sunnah of Allah
which is not fixed from any specific time.
Here Insah is the form of cancellation.
Cancellation is related with order.
Sometimes order is cancelled but its
recitation remains to continue. But through
Nisah, such type of cancellation is being
discussed here in which recitation along
with the order is cancelled. Moreover,
Allah washes away such verses from the
minds of people through his power. If
human beings forget something it is
considered a weakness among the list of
weaknesses of humans but something
washes away from the minds of people by
Allah is not in the hands of humans. Thats
why it would not be considered as the
weakness of humans (Montgomery, 1988)

ObjectionNo-5. the Different Accents of
Recitation of Holy Quran
Oriental give different direction to the
different accents of recitation of Holy
Quran. They try to prove that as Bible has
different versions. Similarly, these are
different versions of the Holy Quran.
Thats why George Cell says that:
Having mentioned the different editions
of Quran, it may not be a miss here to
acquaint the reader that there are seven
principal editions. If I may so call them as
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
75 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections

ancient copies of the book, two of which
were published and used at Madinah, a
third at Makkah, a fourth at Qufa, a fifth at
Basra, a sixth at Syria and a seventh called
the common or vulgar editions (George,
1890)

Answer
We cannot say anything this that from
where George Cell have collected this
history of Holy Quran. Most of the cities
to which he tried to relate the editions of
Holy Quran, were not even under the
control of Muslim territory at that time.
People used to recite Holy Quran till the
Khilafat of Hazrat Usman (R.A) in
different accents but he prepared four
different versions of Holy Quran
according to the grammar of Quraish tribe
and sent it different cities that were the
part of Muslim territory. We admit this
fact that different types of recitations exist
during the time of Hazrat Muhammad
(SAW) and they still exist today but their
nature is not that which Oriental are trying
to prove.
) ~ g
Now we will discuss some verses to clear
and understand the nature of difference
about accents of recitation.
+ O [ + O N [ + C O . + + ^ O [ = _ C [ _ ] [ + + ^ ) O + + ) + [ ] N [

O believers if someone brings any news
to you then confirm it first carefully so
that you couldnt harm anyone in
ignorance.Al-Quran
The word of this verse has read
by some other people except
Hazrat Hafs (R.A) as .
Al-Azhari(1983)

The meaning of word is to
investigate and the meaning of word
is almost the same.
In Al-Munjid, the meaning of word is
written as
Means to investigate some matter
carefully, to discuss the matter with
someone (Al-Mutani, 1992)
Now readers can easily understand that
there is no change on the concept of
difference in accent. Rather it has got
some broader meaning Muslims should
not take any action in a hurry when they
hear some doubtful news. Rather they
should first have thorough investigation
and then take any action. There is logic in
the difference in accents that it gives vast
meanings to the verses which benefits the
people. Number of problems of daily life
can be solved through this.

76 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
OBJECTIONNO-6.ORIENTAL AND
SUNNAH
Oriental didnt believe in the Holy Prophet
(SAW) but they were well aware on the
bases of their experiences that anything
spoken from the mouth of Holy Prophet
(SAW) was true and there was no space
for any kind of doubt in it. They were sure
that Muslims would not go astray until
they remain in contact with Quran and
Sunnah. (Al-Azhari,1983)
When Oriental used to relate the verses of
Holy Quran as the book of Holy Prophet
(SAW) then they were helpless. They
claimed that in the beginning Muslims had
no importance of Hadith. In the 2
nd
or 3
rd

year of Hijra when Muslims had to
encounter new and new issues and
religious and political differences got
strength then they designed some Hadiths
by theirselves and related them with the
Holy Prophet (SAW). Oriental put this
blame not only on the ignorant Muslim or
community but Muslim governments and
scholars, everyone come under this blame.
People like Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A) and
Imam Bukhari who had spent their lives in
the protection and services of Hadiths also
come under the blame of Oriental. They
dont even spare these people. Similarly
during the reign of Ummayads, this
heinous activity to create fake hadiths
completed rapidly. The scholars invented
such hadiths that could help them in this
purpose. At that time Ummayad
government also started this work against
the scholars (Mehmood ,1983)
Arthur Jeffery writes in his book Islam,
Muhammad and his religion,
After the prophets death, however, the
growing community of his followers found
that a great many problems of religion,
and even more of community life were
arising for which, there was no specific
guidance in the Quran. Guidance was
therefore sought in the traditions, Hadith
as to what the prophet had said and done,
or was reported to have said and done.
This vast accumulation of genuine, partly
genuine, and quite spurious tradition was
presently digested, into the collections of
Hadith (Arthur, 1979)

Answer
Reality is that the presence of these types
of Hadiths in the books of Hadith is not a
discovery for which the credit should be
given to Oriental. Rather, Muslims remain
aware of these type of Hadiths and Muslim
scholars have always informed their
Muslim brethren about such type of
Hadiths. In fact, Oriental also get the
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
77 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
information about such Hadiths from
Muslims. Otherwise, how could the
followers of Bible come to know about the
genuineness and authenticity of Hadiths?
(Azhari,1983)

Publication of Hadith
Oriental tell us that Muslims turned
towards the Hadith in the 2
nd
or 3
rd

century. Before that neither they paid
attention towards Hadith nor they felt any
need of it. Contrary to this research of
Oriental, we find such types of Hadith in
the Holy Quran that demand for
publication. There are number of Hadiths
of the Holy Prophet (SAW) in which he
persuaded his ummah to publish these
Hadiths. The life and attitude of the
followers of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW)
shows that they tried their level best for
the publication and protection of Hadiths.
So, in these circumstances how could we
believe on the research of Oriental with a
blind eye? (Al-Azhari, 1983)

Compilation and Composition of
Hadiths
The issue of Oriental that it is not possible
to protect and safe something without
keeping it in written form is baseless. The
biggest argument in this regard is the
constitution of England, the land of
Oriental, which is still not available in the
written form and it is safe and protected.
British people are running their country
according to this constitution unavailable
in written form and they claim that their
country is a real democratic country. The
reason is that their constitution has
become the part of their national life thats
why it is still present despite of its non-
availability in written text. This
constitution is comparatively working with
more force as compared to other
constitutions which are available in the
written text but their spirit doesnt observe
in the lives of concerned nations. The way
Muslims implement these Hadiths in their
lives, their genuineness and authenticity
would remain the same even if they are
not available in the written text. But it
would be totally unjust to say that
Muslims didnt pay any heed on the
compilation of Hadiths for about two
hundred years. It is also a fact that
Muslims relied more on other sources as
compared to paying stress on the
compilation of Hadiths but it doesnt mean
that they had totally ignored the
compilation of Hadiths (Al-Azhari,1983)

Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
78 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
The Issue to Forbid Writing Hadiths
Oriental say that Prophet Muhammad
(SAW) had forbidden the Muslims to
write Hadiths. Thats why most of the
followers disliked writing Hadiths and
they also forbade the people who wrote
Hadiths. There were other people as well
in the later decades who were against the
writing of Hadiths. At the time of Makkah
victory when Prophet Muhammad (SAW)
delivered the sermon then one Yemenis
stood up. His name was Abu Shah. He
requested the Holy Prophet (SAW) to get
that sermon in the written form. On that
occasion, Holy Prophet (SAW) said to his
followers to write it for Abu Shah. Hazrat
Abdullah Bin Umro says, Whatever I
listen from the Holy Prophet (SAW) I used
to write it. My purpose was to remember it
later. Quraish forbade me to do this and
said, Whatever you listen from the Holy
Prophet (SAW0 you write it. Although,
Holy Prophet (SAW) is a human being and
he speaks in every state, normal or angry. I
left writing and told this thing to the Holy
Prophet. Hazrat Muhammad (SAW)
pointed towards his mind with his index
finger and said, Write whatever you listen
because this tongue always speaks out the
truth. Al-Munahil
The fact is that work of writing and
compilation has always been in progress in
every era. Muslims have never ignored
this job to protect the Hadiths and they
have always used the same method to

Compilation of Hadiths during the time
of Holy Prophet
Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A) got a superb
memory and he had saved number of
Hadiths in written with him. Hazrat Fazeel
Bin Hassan (R.A) relates with his father
that once he said, I read a Hadith from
Hazrat Abu Huraira. He didnt admit it. I
told him that I have heard this Hadith from
you. He said if you have really heard this
Hadith from me then it must be written
with me. Then he held my hand and took
me to his house. He showed me many
books of Hadiths of the Holy Prophet. In
those books there was also present the
concerned Hadith. He said I told you that
if you had really heard this Hadith from
me it would be definitely in written with
me. Hazrat Abu Huraira (R.A) permitted
Hazrat Bashir (R.A) to copy his Hadiths
and he also permitted him to relate his
Hadiths. Al-Sunnah

Compilation of Hadiths during the time
of Followers
The boundaries of Islamic state were
expanding with the passage of time. The
population of Muslims was rapidly
increasing and one by one the followers of
the Holy Prophet (SAW) were leaving this
world. It was direly needed at that time to
properly compile the Hadiths according to
the need of time. Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul
Aziz (R.A) directed at the official level for
the writing and compilation of Hadiths.
We came to know about one very
important document which proves that the
work of compilation of Hadiths had been
done before the initiative taken by Hazrat
Umar Bin Abdul Aziz (R.A). This
document is under the custody of Hazrat
Haman Bin Munbah (R.A). On the
instructions of Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul
Aziz (R.A) the Muslim scholars of all the
Muslim cities started working on the
compilation of Hadiths. Some of the
fortunate compilers of Hadiths at that time
other than Imam Zahri (R.A) are as
follows:
(a) Abdul Malik Bin Abdul Aziz Bin
Jareh Al- Basri (150 Hijri) in Makkah.
(b) Imam Maalik Bin Anus (179 Hijri),
Muhammad Bin Ishaq (151 Hijri),
Muhammad
Bin Abdul Rehman (158 Hijri) in
Madinah.
(c) Rabeeh Bin Sabeeh (160 Hijri), Saeed
Bin Abi Aruba (156 Hijri) and Hammad
Bin
Salma (167 Hijri) in Basra.
(d) Sifiyan Soori (161 Hijri) in Kufa.
(e) Muammar Bin Rashid (153 Hijri) in
Yemen.
(f) Abdur rehman Bin Umro (158 Hijri) in
Syria.
(g) Abdullah Bin Mubarik (181 Hijri) in
Khorasan.
(i) Haisham Bin Bashir (183 Hijri) in
Wasit
(j) Jarir Bin Abdul Hameed (188 Hijri) in
Ray
(k) Abdullah Bin Wahab (198 Hijri) in
Egypt
On the directions of Hazrat Umar Bin
Abdul Aziz (R.A) these volumes of
Hadiths were prepared not only to kept
them in safe custody but special
arrangements were also made for the
publication of these volumes in public.
First of all, Hazrat Ibn e Shahab Al-Zahri
compiled the volume of Hadiths on the
direction of Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul Aziz
(R.A) and the copies of that volume were
immediately sent to every part of the

Islamic state. Hazrat Ibn e Shahab Al-
Zahri had himself explained this that:
Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul Aziz (R.A)
directed us to collect the Hadiths. We
deposited the volumes of Hadiths in the
headquarter and Hazrat Umar Bin Abdul
Aziz (R.A) sent one copy of Hadiths to
every city of the Muslim State. Al-

OBJECTIONNO-7. THE
CHARACTER OF HOLY PROPHET
(SAW)
Oriental adopted different methods to spoil
the image of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW).
They presented you in the form of hateful
character in their plays, movies and
pictorial stories. On some occasions they
showed his body in the deepest levels of
hell. On other occasions they showed his
body is hanging between the sky and
earth. Sometimes they presented you in the
form of idol. Sometimes they showed that
Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) had kept a
dove as pet that used to sit on his
shoulders and he tried to show the people
that this dove is an angel of Allah and it
came to deliver a new message from
Allah.

Answer
This attitude and way of Oriental to spoil
the image of Holy Prophet (SAW) is not a
new one and even today it still exists.
Salman Rashdi in his Satanic Verses has
written in the same way in which these
Oriental used to write at that time. What
else could be the biggest proof of dignity
of the Holy Prophet (SAW) that his
enemies couldnt agree on one point
against him? If one Orient had put blame
on the Holy Prophet (SAW) then the next
one had rejected it. If one Orient had
created a false propaganda against the
Holy Prophet (SAW) to spoil his character
than the other enemy had rejected it by
declaring it baseless. We can observe
number of such examples in the writings
of Oriental. Interesting fact in this regard
is that the hearts of people who rejected
the allegations against the Holy Prophet
(SAW) are full of conspiracy and
selfishness. They rejected one allegation
but tried to spoil the image of Holy
Prophet (SAW) by putting more heinous
and serious allegation on the Holy Prophet
(SAW) to spoil his character (Al-Azhari,
1983)

OBJECTION NO-8:TESTIMONY OF
ORIENTAL ABOUT ARABS FOR
BEING THE FAMILY OF ISMAIL:
It was attempted to show that Holy
Prophet (SAW) is from the family of
Hazrat Ismail (A.S), so that it could be
proved that he was from the family of
Hazrat Ibrahim (A.S). Different tales of
Bani Israel and Hazrat Ismail (R.A) were
tried to fill their requirement (Sulemani ,
1993)

Answer
The author of Encyclopedia of Religion
and Ethics wrote with regard to Chronicle
of Sebeos as, He was an Ishmaelite, who
taught his countrymen to return to the
religion of Abraham and claim the
promises made to the descendants of
Ismael. (Encyclopedia of Religion)
Gibbongo is telling us in the footnote of
his book:
Theophanous the most ancient of the
Greeks confesses that Muhammad was the
race of Ismael (Al-Azhari,1983)

OBJECTION NO-9:A CONSPIRACY
TO DECLARE THE HOLY PROPHET
AS PATIENT OF EPILEPSY
The character of the Holy Prophet (SAW)
is free from every stain of sins. Allah
Almighty had blessed him with every
quality which a person could wish. Allah
had awarded him the highest place in the
world and blessed him with appraisable
physical health and unbelievable mental
and intellectual qualities (Al-Azhari, 1983)

But Oriental put several types of blames
on the character of the Holy Prophet
(SAW) to defame him. One of the baseless
allegations put on him was that he was a
patient of fits. There are some of the
incidents from which Oriental had taken a
hint that Holy Prophet (SAW) is a patient
of fits.
(a) Her mother saw angels before his
birth.
(b) The dissection of chest of the Holy
Prophet (SAW) by angels as per told by
Hazrat
Halima Sadia (R.A).
(c) The unconscious condition of the Holy
Prophet (SAW) at the time of revelation of
verses of Holy Quran.
(d) The non-believers of Makkah called
you mad.
(e) Hazrat Halima Sadia (R.A) saw a
piece of cloud on the head of the Holy
Prophet
(SAW) (Sulemani, 1993)

Answer
Corrigendum of the Same Allegation by
Oriental
This allegation is so baseless and absurd
put on the Holy Prophet (SAW) that even
Oriental themselves started declaring it
fake. Famous historian of the west,
Gibbon, writes with regard to this
allegation.
Till the age of sixty three years the
strength of Muhammad was equal to the
temporal and spiritual fatigues of his
mission. His epileptic fits, and absurd
clummy of the Greeks, would be an object
of pity rather than abhorrence (Edward ,
1962)

OBJECTION NO-10:ATTACKS ON
THE CHARACTER AND CHASTITY
OF THE HOLY PROPHET (SAW)
Oriental see lot of qualities in the life of
Hazrat Muhammad (SAW) but they dont
see the quality of good character and
attitude and they express their strange
views about his life.
Taurand Roy delivers his views about the
character of Holy Prophet (SAW) as:
In spite of everything that can be said in
defence, Muhammads religious integrity
and his loyalty to his call, his endurance,
his liberality, and his generosity, we are
not doing the Prophet of Islam an injustice
when we conclude that his moral
personality does not stand upon the same
level with his other endowments and
indeed, not even upon the same level with
his religious endowments.

Answer
In the above lines we have tried to express
in brief those moral flaws of Oriental
which they are trying to prove in the
character of the holy Prophet (SAW). In
this brief extract we can easily come to
know that Oriental can see every kind of
moral flaw in the character of the Holy
Prophet (SAW). But the people who are
all the time busy in pointing out flaws in
the personality of Prophet Muhammad
(SAW), they expressed their views in
these words. According to Montgomrey
Watt:
In this day and generation he was a social
reformer, even a reformer in the sphere of
morals.
The persecuted preacher of Makkah was
no less a man of his time than the ruler of
Madina. (Montgomery, 1961)
The people who got the opportunity to
spend their time with the Holy Prophet
(SAW) his company, had observed his
days and nights, his habits and routines,
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
83 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
they couldnt see any kind of flaws in his
personality. Even the people who were the
worst enemy of the Holy Prophet (SAW)
and had hatched conspiracies against him
couldnt consider him deceiver or cheater.
Rather, they used to keep their precious
belongings with you and called you as
Sadiq and Ameen.(Al-Azhari 1983)
Allah Almighty has said about the Holy
Prophet that:
+ O [ E 7 _ C

And of course you are the best example
of morality. Al-Quran
Allah Almighty has used the word to
express the countless qualities of the Holy
Prophet (SAW).
The Holy Prophet (SAW) said that:

I had been sent to set the best example of
morality. (Al-Azhari,1983)

OBJECTION NO-11:NUMBER OF
WIVES
One of the most objectionable and biggest
objections raised against the Holy Prophet
(SAW) by Oriental is of having many
wives. Oriental either of the past or
present, they start the process of putting
fake allegations on Hazrat Muhammad
(SAW) from the number of wives. They
try to spoil the character of Hazrat
Muhammad (SAW). Their objections
regarding the number of wives move
around the following points:
(a) He had been under the control of
sexual desire.
(b) He fixed the number of wives for his
followers and males of his ummah but
himself
didnt act upon it.
(c) He got married with every woman
whom he liked. (Example of Hazrat
Zainab (R.A)
is presented in this regard at very high
level).
(d) Fulfilled his sexual desire under the
cover of many wives.
(e) When he got no recognition he had
only one wife but as soon as he got fame
and
] ~ g ) C C / [ C O + 7 O g
popularity, the number of wives
started increasing.

Answer
The tradition to keep more than one wife
is an old one and no decline in the status
of people in the social society had been
observed due to this reason. Same is the
case with the Holy Prophet (SAW) but if
we have a glance at the life of the Holy
Prophet (SAW) then we came to know
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012
84 Ramzan et al., A review on the objections
about this fact that his all marriages were
nor for the sake of sexual satisfaction. His
motives behind those marriages were so
lofty that that they are beyond the
understanding of Oriental. Oriental have
tried to exaggerate the number of wives of
the Holy Prophet (SAW) but there is no
need to get entangled in it. There was no
limit fixed for the number of wives for the
Holy Prophet (SAW). He married with all
those women with whom he thought
necessary to get married. We dont need to
neglect this fact. Oriental didnt like this
thing that the Holy Prophet (SAW) had
fixed the number of wives upto maximum
of four for his ummah but didnt accept
this restriction for himself and married
with every whom he wanted (Arthur,
1979)
Must of the Oriental have expressed the
same like views about the number of
wives of the Holy Prophet (SAW). They
didnt bother to see this angle of life of the
Holy Prophet (SAW) from the prospective
of his whole life. They didnt bother to see
whether there is another personality in the
world whom they respect a lot and he had
more than one wife. There was a tradition
in every religion to have more than one
wife. According to the view of these
religions, those respectable were
themselves strictly following that principle
thats why we didnt find any kind of
decline in the dignity of these
personalities. Lets take an example of
Hinduism. The dignities of this religion
have more than one wife.
Father of Sri Ram Chandar Ji,
Maharajah Dasrat had three wives.
Sri Krishan had hundreds of wives.
Leader of Pandos, Raja Pando had
two wives.
Raja Shitan had two wives.
Bichtar Erij had two wives.
Mansoorpuri Muhammad

The holy book of Jews told us that Hazrat
Ibrahim (A.S) had three wives. Hazrat
Yaqoob (A.S) had four wives and Hazrat
Musa (A.S) had four wives as well. Allah
Almighty had Himself ordered this to
Hazrat Musa (A.S). If you go in a battle
against your enemy and your God keep
your enemy in your custody, then make
them prisoners, and if you see some
beautiful women among them who attracts
you, make her your wife and take her to
your home. She should cut her nails, shave
her head, remove the robes of slavery and
live in your house, have a mourning of his
parents for one full moon. After them you
should sleep with her and take her in your
Gomal University Journal of Research, 28(1). June, 2012

custody as your bride and should become
your wife. These teachings of Bible are
not putting any kind of sanction on Hazrat
Musa (A.S). On different occasions of
Bible, we come to know about nine wives
of Hazrat Daud (A.S). (Mansoorpuri
Muhammad)

The fact that Hazrat Muhammad (SAW)
gave an open option to his wives either to
marry him or go for the worldly wealth
and the choice of his wives to refuse the
second option and preferred to stay with
him is an undeniable and crystal clear
proof that the relationship of Hazrat
Muhammad (SAW) and his wives was not
established on the bases of sexual desire.
Rather this relationship was based on such
great motives for which every thing could
be sacrificed. There are number of other
examples in the life of Hazrat Muhammad
(SAW) which proves that the step of the
Holy Prophet (SAW) to marry with many
women was not for the sake of sexual
satisfaction. Rather it had some other
reasons (Al-Azhari, 1983)
