SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research study is beneficial to the present and future generations who must be aware of the sociological changes in our country especially regarding of the language proficiency. It is important to know the advantages and disadvantages of the jejemon phenomenon to the society more specifically to the younger generations who are very active to these sudden linguistic changes and also to know if the jejemon way of texting can affect the grammatical skills of the youth. It aims to help the following individuals to be aware of the different effects of the jejemon phenomenon in language proficiency.

The research is helpful to students who are in different areas of language study that may use the data done locally for future studies concerning about language innovations and proficiency. It will let them be aware about the changes in language proficiency and it will also help them to know what would be the effects of the continuous usage of the jejemon language, as well as on how to maintain the proper use of language and the proper way of communication even with the influence of jejemon language.

It can also help the teachers to become aware of the effects of the jejemon phenomenon to the characteristics of spoken and written aspects of communication and its educational implications. Through this study, they can also monitor the possible causes of problems or issues with language proficiency.

This study can also be beneficial to the youth who use texting in communicating to others whether frequently or rarely to know both the good and bad effects of using the jejemon language.

Others may be the linguists who study various sociolects that they may find relevance or some differences of their study to this one. They can also review their works through this study especially the jejemon busters (anti-jejemons) and other people who study the jejemon language.

It can also be of use to the future researchers who will use this to make new ideas for their future studies.

STATEMENT OF THE PURPOSE


The main purpose of this research study is to identify the effects of the jejemon phenomenon to the language proficiency. The following are its specific objectives: to identify the effects of the jejemon phenomenon to the youths language proficiency, studies and also in their everyday lives to know the possible causes why it became a linguistic phenomenon in our country to show the major advantages and disadvantages of the jejemonism in the local society to recognize the factors that influence the students to continue or discontinue using jejemon language

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM


The research study about the effects of the jejemon phenomenon in language proficiency specifically will answer the following questions: What are the possible causes and effects of using the jejemon language to its users language proficiency? What are the major advantages and disadvantages of using the jejemon language? What are the driving factors that influence the youth to continue or discontinue using jejemon language? Should jejemon be a significant problem to education or not? Is using the jejemon language helpful to its users or not?

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This study that will be conducted only within a short period of time is limited only to the jejemons among youth aged up to 18 years old. It aims to identify both the good and bad effects of the jejemon phenomenon in language proficiency.

Language proficiency includes both the Filipino and English language for the jejemons use their language in both fields. Although both languages are included, the focus of the study will be on the English language since Filipino students take time and effort to study its correct usage of grammar, spelling and syntax.

This research aims to study only the jejemon language and not any other slang words or even the bekimon language. Only the local society and issues are the scope of this study.

This study does not include the psychological and sociological effects of the jejemon language to its users. It includes only the linguistic changes.

If ever survey questions and interviews will be used in gathering information, it will be randomly given to possible youth respondents inside and outside the Far Eastern University as long as they are aware of the issue regarding the jejemon language.
