Chapter 1 The Problem Introduction: Academic performance of students is one of the common studies in the field of research.

In this generation, academic performance is the common problem encountered by teachers. Performance is defined as how a specific person read on a particular thing especially on work. It is a gouge to measure the effectiveness of a teacher. The latest trend of this era is the usage of internet not just in social networking but also finding answers and solutions specially in doing school works e.g. assignments and researches. One of the major concerns is the academic performance of the Bachelor of Secondary Education students who rely on the Internet Referential Sites in making and doing their school works. The problem could be the determining of the positive and negative effects of internet referential sites to the academic performance of the BSE students. Internet referential sites have diverse resources and its common goal is to provide users thousands of answers or options to choose whether it is reliable or not. Since we are learning the field of teaching, it is very imperative for us to study how the learners of todays generation grab their resources and how helpful and reliable these resources are. We are in this generation of technology and the usage of internet in gathering information has been the latest trend and going to libraries in search for books has been named as the old and traditional manner. A country that fails or neglect to give premium to Education of its people will inevitably fatter in human development and lag behind in economic advancement

(Edgar Alabado Autero,2011). Thus, we must put weight on education and its learners because it is the foundation of all development in the country. Academic performance of students in all subjects in this technological era must be increase. The main concern of this study is to find out the effects of the usage of Internet referential sites to the academic performance of Bachelor of Secondary Education Students. The researchers also want to know the positive and negative effects and the problems they encounter in connection with their internet usage.

Conceptual Framework: The students academic performance was obtained from their grade point average (GPA). Students need to determine whether the sources that they obtain are helpful and beneficial to them. The figure 1 shows the model of the study. Statement of the Problem

This study will ascertain the effects of the usage of referential sites in the internet to the academic performance of the Bachelor of Secondary Education students of Bukidnon State University.

Specially, it seeks the answer to the following questions:What are the positive effects of the usage of the referential sites to the academic performance of the BSE students in BSU? What are the negative effects of the usage of the referential sites to the academic performance of the BSE students in BSU?

Significance of the study

The students are the first beneficiaries in the study, this will help them realize how their academic performance affect the educational system and it will give them idea on how beneficial or destructing the internet referential sites for them to use it in a smart manner.

The teachers are the next beneficiaries in the study; this will serve as a point for teachers to guide the students in correcting and choosing their internet-based researches and

answers to justify the reliability of its contents to avoid misconception and confusion of ideas on the part of the students.

The schools are also the beneficiaries of this study, it would help them find ways in helping incline students performance and will give them ideas to what specific reminders or guidance they will give to students in using the internet as a reference of their school works.

The parents can be benefited from this study it can help them finds ways how to guide their children in surfing the internet and use the referential sites in a smart manner.

Delimitation of the Study

This study is delimited to the effects of the usage of Internet referential sites among Bachelor of Secondary Education students in the three indicators namely, students attitude towards lesson, connectivity of ideas searched and ideas discussed in the class and students academic achievement.

Definition of Terms The term is defined theoretically and or operationally to give the reader a clear understanding of this study.

Performance of students- performance of the students are something they do or achieve in school, college or university- in class, in laboratory, library or fieldwork, as cited in Austero(2011) (Brown et al. 1989).
