Opening Cover Detector

As an extended antifraud feature, the OPCODE (OPening COver DEtector) detects the opening of the sealed terminal cover at any time, i.e., even if the meter is completely powered down. When the mains are powered after a tamper event, while it was not powered, the meter will detect the tamper and increase the internal counter with 1 opening cover event. While powered, the device detects the number of times the terminal cover has been opened keeping a 1 second reset gap between two frauds. The OPCODE device is checked every 200ms and in case of fraud detection it is confirmed 200ms later. T he "OPCODE tamper index" is increased and the device is reset. The "OPCODE tamper index" registers up to 255 events setting an overflow bit in the status word if the index rolls over to 0. This bit can be reset using the push buttons or the IR communication port.

Real Time clock (acc. to IEC 61038)

All real timing functions within the meter, like rate changes or special day management, among others, are derived from the integrated real time clock (RTC). Its source is internal and based on a 32.768 kHz crystal. This meter is equipped with a small back-up power supply, and optionally either a lithium battery or a supercapacitor. Without the extra energy sources the auxiliary power circuit holds the RTC working for at least 15 minutes. In case of the super-capacitor, the RTC is maintained at least 7days of continuous total supply outage. If the lithium battery is chosen, it will maintain the RTC up to 3 years. Characteristics of Time accuracy: 0,5s per day at 23C when meter is powered by main

1s per day when RTC is powered by backup power 0.1s per day per C: temperature deviation for operating scope = -25C to 60C in accordance with Operating range

As the crystal drift is not linear over the temperature range and time, the internal clock source accuracy is better than 15 seconds per month at 23C, and 6 minutes per year over the full temperature range. Time is possible to be set (re-synchronised) with 1 second accuracy [hh,mm,ss], by a programming operation using the IR port or directly using the sealed push-button on the meter cover. The meter verifies the consistency of Date & Time programmed in the meter and rejects not valid ones.

2.4.1

Battery

The meter may be equipped with a replaceable lithium battery, which is accessed by a battery holder placed on the front of the meter. This battery holder can be sealed and therefore its access possible only after breaking it. The battery carries the following characteristics : Standard size Lithium battery CR2450, Rated shelf life of 10 years (20 years typically), The battery is modified into an assembly to fit meters battery holder. The battery holder provides a space to put a sticker to indicate battery date of change. also indicates a printed forecasted date for its replacement. A battery failure indication is shown in the display when the battery capacity decreased by about 10% or when it is absent.

2.4.2

Super Capacitor

The Super capacitor is placed on the meters bottom board and not replaceable. It assures a minimum capacity of 7 days in case of continuous total supply outage with a recharging time no more than 12 hours.

3 METROLOGY
3.1 Metrology Indications
The ACE 5.1 is a Class1 Active energy meter according to IEC61036 and a Class2 Reactive energy meter according to IEC61268.

3.1.1

Metrology principle

The apparatus is equipped with 3 special design current transformers, internally called MCT (Mutual Current Transformer), providing the AD converter with an analogue current ratio. Samples read on the meter elements, which are not modified by calculation, are (V1, V2, V3, I1, I2, I3) and permit, among others, the calculation of active, reactive and apparent energy quantities, as well as the power factor and RMS values. Voltage and current signals are sampled and processed to be compensated, equalised, calibrated and phase corrected in order to give final filtered voltage and current values.

3.1.2

Metrology modes

Two different energy measurement modes are available in the meter. Bi-directional Mode - concerns (P+, P-, Q+) and is represented by the symbol

Unidirectional Mode - concerns (P+, Q+, Q-) and is represented by the symbol Note: These 2 energy measurement modes are factory programmable only Within each mode there are three available aggregate energy calculation mode: Ferraris, Static, Anti-fraud. 3.1.3

Metrology LED constant and duration

The metrology LED has been designed to display metrology luminous pulses (blinks) for active or reactive energy, visible from outside, with the meter in operating position. The LED transmits active or reactive energy pulses depending on configuration. The led is mainly used for meter calibration. And its nominal pulse length is 10 ms for ON state and 10 ms for OFF. Meter constant corresponds to the electrical energy measured between two consecutive pulses. No problem of saturation exists with the pulses, even in case of heavy consumption. ( Over 3ph @ 1.2 Imax (144A) & 1.25x240V ) 3.1.3.1 LV/DC Metrological Led constant

Standard pulse rates: 50 - 100 200 pulses/kWh (Configurable with AIMS) In LCD Test mode the pulse rate could be increased to 500 pulses/kWh

3.1.4

Pulse Output

During a cut -off, a saving into the EEPROM of pulses which have to be emitted is done, in order to retransmit it just after power-up. In case of saturation, the LED pulses and the pulse of the pulse output device will no longer be synchronised. The Pulse emitter device can be active or inactive. The selection of pulse transmission (active or not) is carried out via IR communication. The pulse output device is exclusive with the Data Output (see 6.1.3). 3.1.5

Instantaneous values

Rms currents and voltages

Rms Current per phase and Rms Voltage per phase are calculated from an accumulation of squared Current and Voltage samples between 1 second tops, being square-rooted during the same time period. Active Power

The meter calculates every second the instantaneous Active Power quantity W. The Active Energy calculated at the sampling frequency (USAMPLE * ISAMPLE) is accumulated in the Active Power register every second providing an average instantaneous Active Power every second once divided by the number of samples over

the period. Its sign is used to determine the active energy direction (import or export) and its absolute value is used to determine if the energy status is BLOCKED or STARTED. Average Apparent Power

Measurement of the RMS Apparent Power is carried out every second using the RMS arithmetic method : the Apparent Power VA comes from the multiplication between Urms and Irms. Power Factor (P / S )

The power factor is calculated every second per phase and aggregate. Pfagg = kWagg / kVAagg The resolution of the calculation is 0,01. The calculation uses active power signed and apparent power unsigned. The sign of the Power Factor is the sign of Active Power. Phase sequence (V 1/V2, V1/V3, V2/V3) This function returns the voltage to voltage angle according to the different connection types. From these angles are deduce the phase sequence. When the phase sequence is wrong, a bit is raised in the status word. As soon as the right connection is restored, the bit is reset .

3.2.2

Maximum Demand Registers

The values measured by the Maximum Demand Registers are power averages determined over a chosen number of Sub-Intervals with a selected time duration: Number of Sub-intervals: N = 1 to 5, 10 and 15. Sub-Interval Duration in minutes: DT = 1, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60.

The calculation of the MDR is synchronised on the RTC, i.e. the time of an end of integration period is a multiple of the programmed sub-interval duration.

Sub intervals duration (min.)

Time of end of integration period Minutes 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, .., 58, 59 of an hour. Minutes 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, ., 54, 57 of an hour. Minutes 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 of an hour. Minutes 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 of an hour. Minutes 0, 15, 30, 45 of an hour. Minutes 0, 20, 40 of an hour. Minutes 0, 30 of an hour. Minute 0 of an hour.

1 3 5 10 15 20 30 60

In case of exceptional events (tariff change, end of billing, contract change, power down or clock setting (except DST event)), the ongoing integration period is stopped. Depending on a choice made by a programmed parameter through the IR communication port, the calculation of the last integration period can be neglected or computed theoretically as if the integration period was complete. After these events (power up instead of power down), a new integration period begins: the time between the event and the end of the integration period synchronised on the RTC is considered as a complete integration period.

One of two maximum energy types could be managed depending of the customer order (once the type defined, it is not possible to change afterwards either with Push buttons or with AIMS). The possible types are Active Import (P+) or Apparent Import (S+).

3.2.3

Maximum Registers

The maximum registers report the maximum values over an averaged sliding period of time, this period of time is called Filter Time Constant and can take the following values: 20 seconds, 5 or 10 minutes. The averaged Current values per tariff are used for Load Management ( see 4.4). The aim of this sliding window is to simulate the thermal behaviour of a circuit-breaker allowing the detection of fraud to the subscribed currents. These values are reset to zero via the IR communication port or using the push buttons. The meter is also equipped with a special memory case where the maximum voltage values per phase are saved.. 4 TARIFFS
4.1 Definition & ACE 5.1 Time Switch:
A tariff, or rate, is a well-determined period of time during which a set of registers is enabled and used for billing purposes. The meter carries only one living tariff at a time, applicable to all billing registers, being able to change it 8 times every 24-hour period. The ACE 5.1 is equipped with 8 tariffs that can be used to set 4 different day profiles. Each day profile will then be used to define the meter's behaviour through 7-week days, defining a week profile. There are 4-week profiles available, one for each season (therefore 4 seasons). 72 special days are available which are defined through the set of generic dates. These dates are defined either by a year less fixed date (ex: 01_MAY) or by a generic sliding date (ex: First Sunday of November). The group of Timse Switch options is defined as a calendar. Able to support a calendar from 01_JAN_2000 to 31_DEC_2099, the apparatus carries the following functions: Leap year every year that can be divided by 4 is a leap year. When internal time of the meter is 31_DEC_2099 at 23h59mn59sec, then Date & Time restart from 01_JAN_2000 at 0h0mn0sec and corresponding bit in the RTC Status word is set. Leap year Management is not configurable. Day Light Saving Time a total of 16 years could be handled with 32 programmed dates. It is also possible to define generic dates. 2 DST adjustments can be defined each year; one advance & one reverse in any order. In the same configuration, for each year, advance & reverse DST adjustment shall be always in the same order and contains therefore a total of 32 DST adjustments. Current and Latent calendar the future calendar allows a change of time switch behaviour after a configurable date. (This feature is particularly useful when an utility wants to programme a simultaneous calendar change over a wide meter population)

Each tariff can have a different subscribed current. These subscribed current per tariff can be used by the utilities for billing purposes as it establishes a current threshold. This threshold is responsible for the Load Management, i.e., the control of up two relay outputs (see 4.4 Load Management). Besides the control by current threshold, the relays could also be controlled by the daily tariff changes (maximum 8 per day).

4.1.1

Power-Up

In case of a mains failure the meter re-synchronises the calendar at power-up with the current Date & Time and sets the state of the meter (Tariff rate, Relays & Excess Demand Flag) according to the current Date & Time. At power-up, if Date & Time is lost, the RTC restart 01 January 2000, in addition a flag is set, allowing blinking of time displayed on LCD.

4.1.2

Power-Down

While power is down the meter continues to count Date & Time, within its auxiliary power supply limits. No other actions are performed. (See 2.3 for definition on Real Time Clock)

4.1.3

Precision on RTC setting

Depending on the configuration, the format of the available RTC information on the Display, will be either on a 24h or 12h format (plus AM/PM).

4.2

Contract change

A contract is the name given to the set of up to 8 tariffs, or rates, agreed between the utility and the final client. A contract change can only be performed through the IR communication port using AIMS 5000. It allows for a given pre-programmed Time Switch to limit or extend the tariffs used. When the contract change is processed, an automatic EOB is performed.

ACTARIS

4.3

End of Billing (E.O.B.)

The End Of Billing orders are given either by the IR communication port, using the push button or through the pre-programmed internal calendar. Two types of EOB could be performed (configurable by the customer with AIMS 5000) "Cumulative" mode: Copy of the billing registers per tariff and total into the corresponding registers "Hybrid" mode: Copy of the billing registers per tariff and total into the corresponding registers and reset of the billing registers per tariff.

The internal calendar carries up to 12 year-less End Of Billing dates (day / month) permitting yearly roll-over and it occurs by default at 00:00:00 hours. Note: If a power-off masks more than one End of Billing event, only one End of Billing will be generated at power-up.
Note: For a matter of security, specially thinking on manual meter reading events, the meter prevents two End Of Billing orders within the same half-hour (30 minutes). If by any chance two successive EOB orders were given too close, and no energy had been registered, the data of at least one historical set of registers would have been lost.

4.4

Load Management

Load Management (dynamic load management or load shedding) is a functionality that generates actions directly on the output circuits (relays). As soon as averaged RMS current (see 3.2.3) of one of the 3 phases is above the subscribed current in use (the current threshold chosen per tariff - 4.1), an excess of consumption is detected. The relays are then switched to a pre-defined position (configurable with AIMS). The meter has two output circuits delivered as options. The output circuits are equipped with single direction, single-pole electric-control cut-off equipment. These controls lead to stable states able to support currents up to 5A and 250V. The actions over the relays are made through the tariff change and through the control of the consumed current by the load connected to the meter As well as to the hysteresis control values, explained below. The hysteresis avoids the relays to switch on & off too many times when the averaged current value is around the subscribed current. The management of the load through the evaluation of its current threshold is prior to the tariff. An icon is set and erased on the display depending of the status of the over-current. The hysteresis values are defined in the Configuration programme and loaded into the meter through the optical port. The example below represents the averaged current of a phase and the state of a relay when the hysteresis values are crossed.

5 DIAGNOSTIC AND SURVEY

The following exploitation data are intended to provide information to ease ACE 5000 maintenance and exploitation and failure diagnostic.

5.1.1

ParameterSetChecksum

This register contains a 16bit checksum of all the customer configuration data set. It avoids reading the whole configuration set to check if it is the correct one programmed in the meter.

5.1.2

ProgrammingCounter

This register counts the number of programming attempts from IR port and from the user interface. The maximum capacity of the register is 65500. When it reaches this limit, it stays at this value even if another programming action happens. This register cannot be reset.

5.1.3

ReverseFlowCounter

The number of export transits is registered in a register with a maximum capacity of 65500. This register cannot be reset and when it reaches its maximum value, it stays there even if a new reverse flow occurs.

5.1.4

BillingPeriodCounter

The number of billing periods is registered with a maximum capacity of 255. This register cannot be reset and when it reaches its maximum value, it stays there even if new billing period occurs.

5.1.5

Terminal Cover Opening Counter

This register counts the opening number of the sealed terminal cover. The maximum capacity of the register is 255 (1 byte), After it reaches this values, the next opening cover event brings this register back to 0, and a fraud register overflow bit (erasable) is indicated on the status word. This register cannot be reset.

5.1.6

CutOffCounter

This register counts the cut off numbers. The maximum capacity of the register is 255 (1 byte), After it reaches this values, the next cut off brings this register back to 0, and a fraud register overflow bit (erasable) is indicated on the status word. This register cannot be reset.

5.1.7

StatusWord

The standard status word provides the following information Incorrect Phase sequence Cut off overflow flag Frauds overflow flag.. Overvoltage flag. . Phase loss flag per phase Memory test flag

5.1.8

6 COMMUNICATIONS
6.1 IR communication port :
The communication is the mean, which gives access both to the meters exploitation data and to its configuration data. The meter carries one full communication protocol, DLMS/COSEM (IEC 62056) with connection mode E of IEC61107, and a Flag (IEC 61107) data read-out capacity. The remote access to the meter is made through an infrared optical port based on the flag protocol IEC 61107. This port is situated beneath the liquid crystal display on the left hand side. It is equipped with a metallic part to hold a reading cell by magnetic attraction (pre-centering exists). All of the technical and functional characteristics of the local communication link are according to [6]. COSEM is a multi layered protocol, including physical, data-link, application layer. COSEM by a formal definition of data type (COSEM objects) and a non-ambiguous data identification (OBIS Code) guarantee interoperability on a lot of metering data.

6.2.1

Principle

The Data Bus Output allows to get meter data from the RS232 port of a PC. The connection is done through a simple interface (PC DBO Interface) using a twisted pair, screwed in terminals on the meter side, and ended by a SubD9 connector including hardware adaptor. The data can be simply read using Hyperterminal, such as shown below or by a specific application for post processing .

Frame format: According to the configuration, the data readout set is composed by x lines, each line contents the data identifier on 4 ASCII characters followed by the data value between brackets; the data value includes the numerical value and the corresponding unit if significant).
