DAMPER
INTRODUCTION: Damper is normally used for fan inlet, outlet and air/gas lines to control the flow according to our requirement. It is also used for isolation (or) shut-off purpose while id fan starting. The operating conditions of the dampers are designed to match the operating condition of the duct system. DEFINITION: Damper is a device which is used to control (or) regulate the flow of air (or) gas for balancing a system. TYPES: MULTI FLAP DAMPER LEAK PROOF DAMPER MULTI LOUVER DAMPER IGV (INLET GUIDE VANE) RADIAL VANE DAMPER POPPET DAMPER STACK DAMPER BUTTERFLY DAMPER GUILLOTINE DAMPER DIVERTER DAMPER

CONTROLLING DEVICE: MANUAL

4 RPC (REGULATING POWER CYLINDER) SOPC

OPERATING PRINCIPLE: Damper is operated by power cylinders (or) manually. Main parts of the dampers are, o SHAFT o FLAP o LEVER o STOPPER PLATE o LOCK PLATE Power cylinders are controlled from DCS room. When we change the signals to the power cylinder, according to this I/P signal the piston movement will takes place. Due to this movement lever displacement goes on. The lever is connected to the all the flaps through the flap support plates through lever II (shown in fig.). These lever II arrangements are connected to the shaft through support plates. So the lever movement will cause the movement of the shaft to result flap open/close. Number of flaps will selected according to the size of the damper. Stopper plate is used to arrest the movement of flap in opposite direction. This plate is welded with the casing plate.

Flaps opening direction is important for fan outlet damper.i.e flow direction in the fan (Suction to delivery flow) is clockwise (or) anti clockwise, depending upon this the flap opening will fix.

The fig .shows the main parts and operating arrangement of multi louver damper.

MULTI FLAP DAMPER In Multi flap dampers the flap plate is straight one. Small size of ducts only these kind of damper is used. The flap plate is located sides of the rod. When movement of rod will cause the flap open / close. MATERIAL USED In multi flap damper IS 2062 GR A material is used. APPLICATION:

8 Primary air lines. Secondary air lines. MULTI LOUVER DAMPER: In Multi louver dampers, the flap plate is bend to the diamond shape. According to the size of the damper no. of flap will fix. In this damper double suction also available. In this double suction single cylinder is used to move the two levers. Normally large duct size these type of damper is used. MATERIAL USED In multi flap damper, IS 2062 GR A material is used. APPLICATION Suction and delivery for FD, ID fans. LEAK PROOF DAMPER: Leak proof damper are normally used in 2 fan applications. MATERIAL USED IS 2062 GR A ADVANTAGE: 100% air leakage prevented. Fan (IDLE FAN) damage will avoid due to the 100% leak proof. IGV (INLET GUIDE VANE) This type of damper is normally used for circular suction. The flaps are arranged in a circular manner. and SA 240 GR 316 (SPRING QUALITY)

BUTTERFLY DAMPER; It is designed for isolation and control in a system (or) process. ADVANTAGE: All welded construction with replaceable components, accessible for service and replacement. POPPET DAMPER: Designed for isolation in BAGHOUSE in stallions.

STACK DAMPER: It is used in conjunction with HRSG units, the primary function is to contain the temp with in the exhaust stack. RADIAL VANE DAMPER: It is designed to modulate the flow / pressure relationship of a blower from the inlet side. It is use in clean and contaminated gas streams in which light particulate may be encountered. Standard actuations: manual, pneumatic and electric ADVANTAGE: Linkage tight and vibration free, allowing for smooth, low torque operation.

FIBERGLASS ROUND DAMPERS AND BACKDRAFT DAMPERS

INTRODUCTION: Fiberglass Dampers are manufactured to meet the needs of the air handling industry by providing a corrosion-resistant FRP Damper that is used to regulate a gas flow or shut off and isolate a system. The operating conditions for the dampers are designed to match the operating conditions of the duct system. Premium vinyl ester resins are used throughout the damper. Fire-retardant resins are also available for a Class I flame spread. Dampers are used to control airflow for balancing a system. This model is less expensive and has a shaft seal, but does not have a blade seal.

Dampers are used to control airflow for balancing a system. This model has a shaft seal and full circumferential blade stop

12 Dampers are used for isolating a system with low leakage. This model has a shaft seal, blade seal, and a full circumferential blade stop dampers are designed for up to 30 wc with an AMCA certified leakage rate of 5.2 cfm/ft2

Below dampers are used for isolating a system, and has a PTFE encapsulated O-ring to provide a bubble-tight seal. This seal is mechanically fastened to allow easy replacement

13 BACKDRAFT DAMPERS are designed to prevent air from flowing back into the system when the fan is turned off. These may sometimes be referred to as check valves. CONSTRUCTION: Bearings are mounted outboard to the damper body & contained in a plastic sleeve. The bearing is Teflon and the seal is an appropriate elastomer for the chemical service. All these contained within this sleeve with a retaining nut. The blade is a heavy fiberglass disk. Care is taken to produce the highest quality damper and tooling is used to manufacture reproducible and consistent parts. The damper body is a one piece construction, hand fabricated on a polished steel mold. Dampers can be made with a variety of resins, cure systems, gasket materials, shaft materials, internal hardware, external hardware, coatings, flange patterns, actuators, and face to face lengths.
