These menus and ideas have been prepared by the internationally known chef Sanjay Kumar.

Sanjay is a keen supporter of local Foodbanks and demonstrated some of these simple meals at the South West Regional Foodbanks meeting on 20 October 2012. Sanjay is currently Sous-chef at the Headland Hotel, Newquay. Not all boxes contain the exact foods. For example one box may contain ham whilst another will have corned beef. Snacks: An instant source of energy is Chocolate bars, or a cup of hot tea/coffee with biscuits. This keeps you energetic in the afternoons, when you are feeling a bit peckish. If you are a bit of a sweet tooth, why dont you nish your meal with A bowl of fruit salad Rice pudding

Irish Stew with noodles and potatoes Boil 1 packet of Chicken noodles in boiling water for 2 minutes. Bring 1 can of Irish stew to boil and add 1 can of boiled potatoes to it. Mix the boiled noodles to it, and serve while it is hot.

Baked Beans and Ham stew with potatoes


Bring 1 can of baked beans to boil and mix in 1 can of chopped Ham. Eat with half a can of new potatoes or some Smash.

Food bank meal planner Recipes


I suggest the following easy combinations: Breakfast A normal day can begin with a bowl of breakfast cereal, consumed with milk One could have a glass of fruit juice/tea or coffee as a cold/hot beverage Alternately one could have some baked beans as a hot option. Lunch/Dinner A simple light lunch /dinner could comprise of a hot bowl of comforting soup (While rehydrating soup from powder, make sure you have ample amount of liquid and whisk the concentrate well, to achieve proper results) If you are looking for a heavier maincourse, why dont you try your hands on making? " 1. Pasta. " 2. Noodles.. " 3. Rice

Tuna Pasta Bake


Boil half a packet of the pasta in a pan of boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Drain the water. Bring 1 jar of the tomato sauce to boil, and mix in 1 tin of the tuna and pasta. Bake in a hot oven for 5 minutes and serve hot.

Tuna and Potato salad


Drain the potatoes and chop them into small pieces. Mix them with a tin of tuna in oil, and enjoy them served with a salad.

Pasta with tomato sauce and vegetables


Boil the pasta in a pan of boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Drain the water. Bring the tomato sauce to boil, mix in the can of minestrone soup and serve hot.

Tools of the trade A basic list of essential equipments to have on hand will be, 1. Tin can opener 2. Collander/strainer 3. Multipurpose pan 4. Slotted spoon/spatula 5. Multi purpose knives 6. Light whisk

Fish Pie
Mix the tomato sauce and the tuna and place in a baking tray . Slice the boiled potatoes and top the sh and tomato mix with them. Bake in a hot oven for 15 minutes and enjoy your meal.

Desserts

Bean Stew with noodles


Mix the Minestrone soup with baked beans, and bring to a boil. In a separate pan boil the Chicken noodles in boiling water for 2 minutes. Mix the beans and vegetables together and serve with boiled noodles.

Fruit Crumble
Mix the canned fruit with orange juice and a table spoon of sugar in a baking tray. Crumble some biscuit crumbs over it, and bake in the oven for 10 minutes. Enjoy. and now for something different!

Chicken noodles with hoisin (sweet and sour) sauce


Boil 1 packet of Chicken noodles in boiling water for 2 minutes. Mix with 1 can of canned peas, 1 can of tomato sauce and 1 packet of hoisin(sweet and sour) sauce. Bring it to a boil and serve hot.

Ham and Fruit pie


Mix the canned ham with minestrone soup and sliced fruit and place in a baking tray. Slice the boiled potatoes and top the ham and fruit mix with them. Bake in a hot oven for 15 minutes and enjoy your meal.
