THREE RAPED IN TANGKAK

TANGKAK: Three girls aged between six and 15 were raped in separate incidents here within a span of seven hours. In the first case, Ledang police chief Supt Harun Idris said a six-year-old girl claimed that her 24-year-old cousin grabbed her while she was asleep at 1pm on Tuesday and took her to a rubber plantation where he forced himself on her. We rushed a team out to arrest the cousin. He is now under remand, he said yesterday. Supt Harun said the second case involved a 66-year-old man accused of raping a friend's daughter, aged 10, behind a shop at about 6pm. He said the girl, whose father ran a restaurant, lodged a report and police managed to detain the suspect later that night. In the third case, he said a 15-year-old girl lodged a report against a 20-year-old man but police had yet to make any arrest. Police believe they were friends and that the alleged rape took place in the man's house. On another matter, Supt Harun said the Ledang narcotics branch had arrested two men and seized about RM150,000 worth of drugs when a team raided a house in Rawang on Oct 8. He said both men, aged 20 and 34, were unemployed. We found several types of drugs including heroin, syabu, Ecstasy and ketamine and RM4,000 cash. In JOHOR BARU, a pasar malam peddler was sentenced to five years in jail by a Sessions Court for committing statutory rape on his then 13-year-old girlfriend. Roslan Zakaria, 30, pleaded guilty to two charges of the offence that took place at his house in Jalan Saujana, Plentong between Aug 10 and 13. He married the girl last month. Judge Zamri Bakar sentenced him to jail from the date of the arrest on Sept 9 and ordered that the sentences run concurrently.

MAN GETS 25 YEARS AND 18 STROKES FOR RAPING MINOR

AMPANG: "I can't concentrate on my studies anymore. My future is bleak".

These were the words of a 17-year old rape victim who gave her impact statement at the Sessions court yesterday after her assailant was found guilty of raping her repeatedly. The victim, who sat in the witness stand and was shielded from the view of the public gallery by a wooden screen, was heard sobbing as she narrated how the incident had affected her. Judge Roszianayati Ahmad asked her twice if she wanted a break to compose herself, but the teenager carried on, although she could be heard crying. "I sometimes feel like going far, far away. I fear my dreams will never come true. I am shy to face my friends and teachers in school, she said. The victim, however, was not the only one who cried in court yesterday. The accused, Mohd Nazrin Mustafa, 21, also cried, after the judge sentenced him to 25 years in jail and 18 strokes of the rotan for raping the victim, then 16, twice. Nazrin, a father of two, committed the offences in a bush in Kampung Sungai Bakau, Gombak, in April last year. The judge sentenced him to 25 years jail and 8 strokes for the first offence and 25 years jail and 10 strokes for the second offence, but ordered for the jail sentence to run concurrently. In finding him guilty, Roszianayati said Nazrins defence was a mere denial as a vaginal swab taken from the victim showed Nazrin's DNA, both from sperm and non-sperm cells. The judge also said she found no discrepancy in the gathering of samples. She also said that the evidence of Muhammad Nur Syukri, the second defence witness, was not consistent and that it was obvious that he was trying to hide something. During the trial, it was revealed that on the day of the incident, the victim was with Nur Shukri, her childhood friend and neighbour, at Berjaya Times Square. As they were leaving on a motorbike, they were stopped by two youths and taken to a bush area, where the victim was repeatedly raped by Nazrin, and a person named Sepet. (Sepet has been charged for the same offence at the Selayang court, while Nur Syukri, who was charged with abetting him, was acquitted due to lack of evidence). Defence counsel Mohd Yusoff AG Lah in mitigating for a light sentence, pleaded with the court to release his client on a good behaviour bond, adding Nazrin was married with two little children aged two years and two months respectively. He also cited the case at the Court of Appeal, which had set aside the five-year jail sentence handed by the High Court to Nor Afizal Azizan, a national bowler, over a statutory rape conviction, and substituted it with a five-year good behaviour bond instead. Deputy public prosecutor Noor Fadzlin Abd Zawawi

pressed for a deterrent sentence, saying that as a father of two children, the accused should have known better than to cause harm to another persons child. SNATCH THIEVES BELIEVED TO BE WORKING IN GROUPS (THE ONLY SOLUTION IS HUDUD=TO APPLY HEAVY ISLAMIC CRIMINAL LAW AGAINST THESE PERSONS)
KUALA LUMPUR: Snatch thieves are getting bolder as they are now believed to be working in groups. MCA Public Services and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong
believed this as he witnessed an incident last Sunday and has now renewed his warning to women to be extra careful. On Sunday at about 7am, he was with a friend, Inland Revenue Board assistant director Julie Lam, when her handbag was snatched while they were walking along Jalan Ampang, several metres away from Wisma MCA. We were in a group when two men on a Honda C70 grabbed Lams handbag. Another friend from the group chased the duo for about 20 metres and what surprised us was how daring the thieves were. They stopped the motorcycle and gave us the catch-me-if-you-can look before riding away. Several seconds after that, I noticed another two men armed with a parang on a motorcycle. It looked like the other pair was ready to strike if their accomplices were caught, Chong said at a press conference at Wisma MCA yesterday. The thieves made of with more than RM5,000 worth of valuables including an iPhone, RM2,500 cash, car keys, identification card and several bank cards. Recalling the incident, Lam, who was also at the press conference, said she and her friends

had planned to have breakfast before heading to a gotong-royong in Taman Mulia. The way they struck shocked me. I almost could not feel anything until the strap of my bag was at the tip of my fingers. I did not hear a motorcycle sound at all. The next thing I knew, they were already fleeing with my handbag. I could only scream Ragut! Ragut! I was so stunned to do anything else, she said. Lam lodged a report at the Kepong police station. 'JOB INTERVIEWER' SERIAL RAPIST NABBED

By RASHITHA A. HAMID KUALA LUMPUR: The serial rapist who lured his victims by offering them lucrative salaries and setting up "job interviews" has been nabbed. Police arrested the 29-year-old salesman about 3am in a house in Section 27, Shah Alam, near here, Wednesday. City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Ku Chin Wah said initial investigations revealed that the man was involved in at least five rape cases in Klang Valley. He said three cases were reported here and two in Selangor. "We believe more women have fallen prey to his 'staged' job interviews but did not lodge reports," he told a press conference here. His activities came to light after police received reports from two victims who claimed they were raped and robbed during a "job interview." It was reported that the man would ask his intended victim to a budget hotel in the city to attend the "interview" after she applied for a sales promoter job through a website. In a replied e-mail, the victim would be offered RM400 per day for the job by the suspect. The victim was then asked to meet the "interviewer" in a room at the hotel. SAC Ku said the man would ask the victim to register the hotel room under her name to avoid his name being used. "He would tell the victims that he had left his identity card at home and could not register," he said, adding that the man was home alone when police raided his house. Initial investigations also revealed that the man had raped a 19-year-old in 2010 using the same modus operandi. He also would convince the victims to bring along their valuables such as laptops, mobile phone and cash during the staged interview. The suspect has been remanded to facilitate in investigations under Section 376 for rape and 392 for robbery. BUSINESS CENTRE IN KEPONG ROBBED FREQUENTLY

y S. PUSPADEVI puspa@thestar.com.my | Sep 24, 2012

Owners of commercial lots in Medan Putra Business Centre in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur are living in fear due to the increasing crime rate in the area. Bakers Mall shop assistant Peggy Yee related her experience on Sept 5, where she was threatened with a parang and forced to give away money from the cash register. It was a rainy day and there was a customer in the shop who was about to pay for the goods she purchased. Then, a man walked into the store with an umbrella. He appeared restless and was looking for something. He took out a parang, which he hid in the umbrella and started pointing it at us, said Yee. She added that the robber also took away the customers handbag but managed to negotiate for the return of her identity card and driving licence. The incident, which took place at about 2.30pm, was recorded by a closed-circuit camera located above the cash register. The suspect did not cover his face. In another incident which took place in June, Chin Ron Xing, 26, said he was dumbfounded when he saw four parang-wielding men walk into several shops nearby and threatened the owners. Wearing full face helmets, they tried to come into my hair salon. Fortunately I had locked it from inside, said Chin, adding the men robbed a mini market, motor and tyre accessories shop and a convenience store nearby. Chin said the incident was reported to the police but business owners were unhappy that no action was taken. Since the incident, we have not seen the police patrolling the area. There is no police beat base set up although we have requested for this. We are operating our business in fear http://www.starproperty.my/PropertyScene/TheStarOnlineHighlightBox/25234/0/0

CHUA: HUDUD NO MERE THREAT

KUALA LUMPUR: Non-Muslims must face the political reality that hudud may very well be successfully implemented should the Opposition come to power, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek. He said DAP had convinced the Chinese community that PAS would never have twothirds majority in Parliament to be able to push hudud through. Whether they can implement hudud if they come into power, (PAS deputy president) Mohamad Sabu has disclosed that those who don't like hudud can object through their MPs. So, PAS will amend the (Federal) Constitution and say the amendment is according to the Quran, he said, adding that Barisan Nasional Muslim MPs would have to support it then. Dr Chua said this was obvious when PAS took over Terengganu in 1999 and amended the state constitution, which was supported by Umno state assemblymen. So, this is something that is possible, especially since (Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim) has openly said PKR and PAS support hudud, PAS-version, he told reporters at Wisma MCA yesterday. This version, added Dr Chua, emphasised punishment and prohibition when Islam was also about education, enlightenment and forgiveness. He said judging from the 222 MPs, of whom most were Muslims, PAS could easily obtain the two-thirds majority to implement its version of hudud. So, this is a political reality that all non-Muslims must face. This is not a threat. It is something that all of us must think about carefully, he stressed. Dr Chua warned that PAS' hudud would have a negative impact on

Malaysia's social, political, educational and cultural landscape, pointing out that Pahang PAS had vowed to close down Genting, which attracted 20 million tourists and provided 18,000 jobs. Some Opposition leaders have been telling the Chinese that hudud is good because it will reduce crime and fight corruption. This is another lie because of the 11 nations with hudud, eight are recognised in the world as the most corrupt and unsafe, he said, adding that they included Iran, Iraq, Sudan and Somalia. (No doubt, corruption is another problem that is not direct related to hudud. And these for countries Iraq, Iran, Somalia and Sudaneveryone knows they have different problems and they are in different situations. Why Chua does not give Saudi Arabia as an example that a general security is seen by every Muslim visits that country.) . http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/9/19/nation/12049160&sec=nation

Beruas, Perak had been the apple of her fathers eye. She was found dead near the front door of her unit on the sixth floor by a neighbour who had heard her screaming at about 3am. A fist-full of her hair had been ripped out, suggesting that the assailant had pulled her by her hair from outside, through the grilled gate, before she was slashed several times on her neck. There was no indication that the assailant had entered the unit as the grilled gate was still locked. The salesgirl who worked at a boutique at The Curve shopping mall was alone at the time of the incident. Her elder sister, Yazniyana, whom she was staying with, went shopping with her boyfriend in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman at 11pm. Yasuhaidah stayed home and watched television. She had earlier told her sister that she did not want to follow them as she had to wake up early for work the next day. Another sister, Yanoaini, 35, said their parents were in shock over the incident. Ocu, as she was fondly known, was very close to our father, who wanted all of us to be back this Hari Raya but she could only make it back on the fifth day of Raya, she added when met at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital mortuary yesterday. Yanoaini, however, said her youngest sister was excited and was in high spirits when they met to break fast at her home in Taman Medan, here, on Thursday night. Ive only seen cases like this on television but I never imagined it could happen to my family, said the distraught Yanoaini. SPECIAL FORCE TO PROBE GANGLAND-STYLE MURDERS (WILL IT BE A SOLUTION)

KUCHING: Sarawak police have formed a special task force to investigate the link on three murder cases which occurred in the state over the last seven months, the state police commissioner, Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said here, today. He said the task force, which
would meet here today, would try to piece up all evidence to determine whether the cases, where all the victims were shot in a gangland style attack, were related. Speaking to reporters after attending the Statelevel Warriors' Day gathering here, he said the latest case involved a 48-year-old businessman who was shot twice at point blank while he was inside his car in Miri yesterday. The first of such cases occurred in January this year when a 41-year-old businessman, Lau Leh Ing, was gunned down while walking to his office in Sibu while the second case involved a 30-year-old man, Ang Soon Heng, who was shot in the head while having breakfast at a shop in Kuching last January. "Although the cases occurred in isolation, we could not rule out the possibility of a connection... judging by the backgrounds of the victims and how the murders were done," he said. Acryl Sani said the investigation would also be expanded to cover both the victims' personal and business involvements. "We are calling for witnesses, not only just those who are at the scenes but beyond the perimeters who might have heard or have information that could lead us to identify the perpetrators to come forward to assist us," he said. On the public concern over the overall safety in the state, he said there should not be any reason to be panicky as the criminals involved in the murders were seemingly having specific targets and were not attacking at random. "This is not like in the United States (Colorado random shooting case), where the suspect shoots without any specific target or specific attention. Here, they (the criminals) are more specific, they are not targetting the public," he added. -- BERNAMA

All three cases involved female victims who were walking alone. A witness, who declined to be named, said the victim was found by shoppers who then alerted the mall's security officers. The victim was found leaning against a wall with blood gushing from her head. She was also injured on her hands, believed to be defensive wounds. "The woman was too traumatised, her hands were shaking. She could only tell the security guards that she had been robbed," said the witness. It was learnt that the victim was only several metres away from her parked car when she was attacked. However, the car was not stolen. Meanwhile, Mid Valley Megamall assistant public relations manager Stephanie Tan said they had surrendered CCTV recordings of the incident to the police. "The victim was given immediate assistance by our staff and cistomers at the mall soon after the incident. "She suffered injuries to her head and face, and was rushed to University Malaya Medical Centre in an ambulance," Tan said in a statement last night. The victim was discharged from the hospital yesterday morning. Tan said the incident happened at an office tower lift lobby at parking zone G, at level four. "We learnt that the victim lost her i-Phone, a small amount of cash, her identity card, driving licence and bank cards, in the incident. "The mall management will extend its full cooperation to facilitate investigations." Meanwhile, Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Abdul Bari Wan Abdul Khalid said police had yet to receive a report. 20 June 2012 GANG LINKED TO 16 ROBBERIES BUSTED OPPORTUNISTS: Eight, who were formerly restricted, preyed on lone women drivers in Klang Valley KUALA LUMPUR: EIGHT youths, who were released two months ago after being held under the Emergency Ordinance, REGROUPED and pulled off at least 16 robberies in the Klang Valley. Four of them were held under the EO in Machang, Kelantan and when they were released, they met up with four other friends who were similarly released, to form the robbery gang. Two months ago, they came down to the city where they targeted women drivers who stopped at traffic lights. Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Zakaria Pagan said the gang, on motorcycles, would stop along the victim's car and hook out the handbags which were left on the front passenger seat. "They were opportunists. They would only look out for cars with the front passenger window down. Anything left on the seat, they would grab. "Using this simple modus operandi, the gang had struck on at least 16 occasions in the Klang Valley. All their victims were women driving alone." Sentul police formed a special team and on Sunday following a tip-off, they nabbed the gang leader at a petrol station in Jalan Segambut here. After questioning, the 22-year-old suspect led police team to a rented house in Damansara Damai where the rest of the gang members were staying. "All seven members were nabbed and police also found several expensive handbags, watches, a gold chain, several cellular phones and three stolen motorcycles." All the suspects had previous records for robbery, car theft and drug abuse. They also tested positive for drugs and were remanded until Thursday to facilitate investigations.

In another case, Zakaria said police arrested four car thieves, including a woman, in Sentul, on Sunday. He said police also recovered six stolen Toyota Wish from various locations in Kajang and Subang Jaya. Two of the suspects, he said, had a long list of convictions for vehicle thefts. June 11, 2012 POLICEMAN

AND THREE YOUTHS HELD FOR ROBBERY

KUALA TERENGGANU: A policeman and three youths here have been arrested for robbing six Indonesian construction workers. The policeman, an auxiliary constable, had acted as the getaway car driver during the robbery at a kongsi in Jalan Jakar, Kemaman at 4am on Saturday. State CID chief ACP K. Manoharan said the workers were sleeping when they were awakened by three people, one wearing a police vest, claiming to be from the anti-narcotics branch. He said the three men ordered the labourers, aged in their 20s to 40s, to hand over their passports and get out of the house. After they exited the house, two men rushed into a room and seized a bag containing RM400 cash, he said yesterday. They escaped in a car driven by the constable. However, one of the victims noted the cars registration number and lodged a report at the Kemaman police station, he said. Manoharan said police arrested the three youths, aged between 18 and 20, at a restaurant in Cukai Utama at 6.45pm on Saturday. They led to the arrest of the 27-year-old policeman attached to the Cukai police station. The four have been remanded for four days. Bernama

BEWARE DEADLY CON MEN

PETALING JAYA: Before, there was only the risk of losing money or ending up with a broken heart to glibtongued swindlers. Now, Malaysians have to be on the lookout for deadly con men pretending to be mediums to gain the trust of unsuspecting victims before robbing and even killing them. A recent triple murder in Taman Sri Ramal, Kajang, has highlighted the existence of such vile fraudsters. A medium who

claimed he could mend family disputes through a ritual, poisoned them with milk laced with weedkiller in the wee hours of April 1. He fled the house after stealing their jewellery and valuables and setting a gas cylinder on fire in the kitchen. K. Rajeswary, 28, died in hospital on April 4 while her brother Manivaran, 33, died four days later. Their mother M. Sakunthala, 63, died on Saturday. Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah said although deaths were rare in cases involving con men, many other cases, however, go unreported. People should be wary and be extra cautious when seeking alternate solutions to problems, including family disputes and medical ailments, he said. He said in most cases, the public seek these people out of desperation. As con men look for ways to manipulate strengths and weaknesses, they would first work on gaining trust. The eventual victims are easily duped because they are usually in a state of distress. The con men prey on their desperation to get what they want, he said. Meanwhile, the Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Investigations Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Syed Ismail Syed Azizan said Malaysians have been swindled of more than RM32mil through scams between January and June last year. Besides Internet fraud, the con tricks also include parcel scams (victims are told that he or she had received parcels with expensive gifts, jewellery or cash, but the packages are detained by Customs and payment is sought for the release), Macau scams (con men claiming to be police or bank officers duping the victim is being investigated and that he or she has to surrender money into an account to verify that it was not gained illegally). A total of 454 Macau scam cases were reported amounting to losses of over RM10.6mil while 472 parcel scam cases were also reported with losses of over RM10mil as well within the same period, Comm Syed Ismail said.

Marked reduction in index and street crimes, says DPM KUALA LUMPUR: Efforts to reduce crime under the National Key Result Areas (NKRA) have shown positive results, with index crimes dropping by 11.1% and street crimes by nearly 50% since 2010, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.
Under the NKRA, he said, numerous initiatives had been taken to reduce crime and make Malaysia safe for all. "Positive results can also be seen from the Global Peace Index (GPI) report last year which positioned Malaysia as the safest country in Southeast Asia and 19th safest in the world," he said at the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Gold Award presentation in conjunction with MCPF's 19th annual general meeting. Present were Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar and MCPF vice-chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye. Muhyiddin, who is MCPF chairman, said the results proved that the total commitment of the Barisan Nasional government as well as the holistic effort by the police and MCPF had resulted in a safer environment for all. "The recognition (by the GPI) and the reduction in crime showed that the police have strengthened its planning and implementation strategies as well as activities concerning security. "Apart from the initiatives by the police, the society too should galvanise their effort to achieve the objective of making Malaysia a prosperous, peaceful and safe country," he said. Muhyiddin said that family institution and noble values should continue to be upheld and nurtured as these can be a shield against social problems which threatened the society. MCPF vice-president Datuk Kamaruddin Md Ali said there was a need to recruit more police volunteers from the Chinese community especially in predominantly-Chinese areas. "We've proposed to the IGP to increase the deployment of police reserve volunteers among the community to facilitate handling of reports and better interactions with the police," he said. He added that only three per cent of police reserve volunteers were from the Chinese community while the participation from the Indian community was 10 per cent. Six police stations were given the MCPF Gold Award at the event. They are

the Taman Johor Jaya station in Johor, Sea Park station in Selangor, Panching station in Pahang, Sungai Bakap station in Penang, Tambunan station in Sabah, and Sentral Sibu station in Sarawak. BERNAMA

Barely minutes later, the Nigerian man came down to the ground floor as well. They caught him and beat him before tying him up and informing the police. When we arrived, we found him motionless, ACP Abdul Rashid said, adding that police rushed him to a nearby clinic where he was pronounced dead. Another Nigerian student, Micah Chinedu, 34, accused the Rela staff of always harassing the Nigerians who were staying there.

KIDNAPPED TEEN TOO TRAUMATISED TO SPEAK

SHAH ALAM: The 14-year-old girl who was kidnapped and sent to Thailand is traumatised and unable to speak to the police.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Zahedi Ayob said the girl was in hospital and responding well to treatment. However, she cannot remember much. She only told us that she was abducted in a white van from Section 9, he told reporters at the district police headquarters here yesterday. The teen was found with five other girls from Myanmar at the Hua Lampong train station in Bangkok on March 11 and arrived back home on Monday. We hope the Thai authorities will send the Myanmar citizens here so that we can probe further. We are investigating if these teenagers were also kidnapped the same day that the girl was abducted, ACP Zahedi said. He refused to confirm if the teen was kidnapped by a child sex trafficking syndicate, but said the case was being investigated under Section 366 of the Penal Code for kidnapping for the purpose of prostitution. ACP Zahedi said the Myanmar teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, were currently under the custody of UNHCR in Bangkok. The Form Three girl was abducted on Jan 30 after her mother dropped her off at a bus stop here at around 1pm. When her daughter did not return home, the 37-year-old mother lodged a police report the following day at the Shah Alam police headquarters. On March 12, the girl called her mother to say that she was in Thailand and had escaped from her captors.

Street crime drops 39.7%

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 FEBRUARY 2012 - Recently, police forces have been doing very well in curbing crime taking place. Residents are also very satisfied with the effort the police force had contributed. According to NKRA index, Home Ministry had set 20% of crime reduction and the results turned out is beyond expectation which ended up at 39.7% reduction. Meanwhile, Klang Municipal Council came up with 5 new tactics to curb crime. These 5 tactics include installing TV surveillance around the streets, building fences on the sidewalks to prevent robbers on motorcycles to approach pedestrians on the sidewalks, to increase the brightness of the street lights, equip arch-mirrors at blind-spot areas along the streets and lastly, but not least, put up warning signs for pedestrians to remind them to be more aware of their surroundings. In another development, Selangor community policing has also suggested that walkie-talkie be used in its resident patrols to expedite help. Bandar Puteri Puchong and Taman Wawasan are the first two residential areas in the state to use this device.
