A Pioneer in Setting International Tourism Education Standards

With the establishment of the Ministry of Tourism in 1967, by the Government of India, followed by a comprehensive development of tourism potential in the country by all stakeholders, it was realized that our nation lagged in one of the most crucial factors for a holistic development, i.e. polished and professional skilled human resource. As a result of this recommendation, the INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TOURISM AND TRAVEL MANAGEMENT came into existence as an apex body for Tourism Education and Research, as a registered society with its headquarter at New Delhi. In 1992, headquarter was set up at Gwalior, amidst a lush green campus in the heart of the city of Gwalior creating a conducive ambience for its students. The institute has achieved several milestones in developing human resources for Tourism and Allied sectors and conducted many national and international seminars/workshops, refresher courses for university and college teachers and Guide Training Program for the polishing of guides. IITTM being a National Level Institute is expected to expand its activities to various parts of the country from a nation`s point of view. It has campuses at Bhubaneswar, Delhi, Goa and Nellore. INFRASTRUCTURE AND FACILITIES At the IITTM we are proud to have one of the most extensive infrastructure facilities. The institute campus spread over 20 acres, an inspiring ambience to trainees and the faculty members. The facilities we provide include one of the best tourism libraries in Southeast Asia, computer labs with latest software, ethically designed administrative labs, auditorium, indoor activity rooms, facilities for outdoor games as well as yoga and modern gymnasium. LIBRARY As an indispensible organ of an academic enterprise, the library consists of more than 10,000 books on tourism, management, information technology and allied subjects. It subscribes more than 150 magazines and journals. We also have a good collection of project reports, conference souvenirs, periodicals etc. IT CENTER Our computer laboratories equip us with necessary skills in the IT intensive environment. The campus as well as the hostels are Wi-Fi enabled. The faculty and students are provided with software like SPSS, MS Office in addition to the industry specific software's like Galileo, Amadeus, Saber, World span to name a few. LECTURE HALLS: The classrooms are spacious and well ventilated equipped with Air-conditioning, multimedia devices including LCD projectors and computers to foster more interactive learning environment. Students can study and learn comfortably.

AUDITORIUM: The auditorium with a capacity of 500 pax is used for lectures by experts & corporate personalities as well as for cultural events organised by the institute.

HOSTEL: The hostels are well equipped with all essential facilities, Wi-Fi, solar heaters, 24 hours water supply, water coolers along with a common mess encouraging dinner time conversations. Our hostels also promote energy conservation through the use of CFL lamps for all residents provided by the institute.

SPORTS FACILITIES: IITTM provides both indoor as well as outdoor game facilities for students. All the necessary sport kits are provided to the students for more and more participation in sports. We celebrate sports week in February annually.

EVENTS AT A GLANCE

DISHA- THE MANAGEMENT VECTOR : Disha, the management vector is an

activity based program, organised by seniors to provide a thrust to juniors. This program gives the juniors a platform to showcase their talents through presentations, quiz, debate etc.

WORLD TOURISM DAY: We at IITTM, celebrates World Tourism Day in a unique way. Cultural performances in form of folk dances, songs are performed every year by the students.

FOUNDATION DAY: IITTM celebrated its 30th anniversary this year, in the presence of Director Manjula Choudhary, and Prof. Nimit Chowdhary ADVENTURE TOURS: Every year adventure tours are organised for the students. This year the students visits the famous hill station MANALI, where they learnt activities like trekking, river crossing, mountaineering, rock climbing etc. Also, students visited places for destination surveys.

Students Off Campus Activities Students have also been actively taking part in various field exposures offered by the institute for their holistic intellectual growth & evelopment. Few of the Events where students have already made a benchmark in a very short span of time are: 1.Abhinav Sharma, won 1st prize in National Tourism Quiz 2011 organised by Bundelkhand University Jhansi. 2. Ravi Rajak and Sayantan Roy, won 1st prize in National Tourism Quiz 2011 organised by Himachal Pradesh University. 3. Student took part in cleaning Gwalior by participating in Tourism Day celebration. Apart from this students have been actively involved in various Extra Curricular Activities like: Study Visit to Jhansi, Fatehpur Sikri, Sikandra, Orcha, Sonagir, Datia, MitawliParawali-Bateshwar, Agra, Shivpuri, Khajuraho for tourism purpose helped students to learn destination knowledge and its importance. Various committee have been formed to give a buzz to fortnight to interact and discuss about the latest upcoming activities to be conducted. Personality development and grooming classes are organized from time to time by the institute to provide them handy tips to improve their personality and tune them to become better professional of the trade. Students undertake 8 days Elementary Skiing Course organized every year from Atal Bihari Vajpyee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports, Manali.
