Introduction
Introduction to systems and signal processing. Discretisation of analogue signals. Reviews the development of analogue and digital filter systems; impulse functions, impulse responses and convolution; the steady state response of analogue networks to cosinusoids and to the exponential ejt; phasors.

Analogue Signals and Sampling Theorem


The steady state response of analogue systems by consideration of the excitation est. Natural responses, transients and stability. Sampling continuous signals; sampling theorem, signal reconstruction and aliasing errors. The discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithms

Analogue Filters
Synthesis of analogue filters; approximation theory, Butterworth, Bessel, Chebyshev and elliptic filters. Least squares filter design and the detection and estimation of signals in noise. Wiener and Kalman filters, linear prediction and the Levinson algorithm, AR and ARMA modelling. Adaptive signal processing, the least mean-square (LMS) and recursive least squares (RLS) algorithms

Hybrid digital and analogue systems. Fundamentals of the design and realisation of finite impulse response (FIR) and infinite impulse response (IIR) digital filters. Processing techniques of bandpass filters. Computer aided analysis in the investigation of these filters. Interpolation, Decimation, and Oversampling

Design of digital filters and their implementation in software and in hardware (using special purpose DSP chips).

Applications of DSP to personal communication networks; signal processing in satellite networks; image processing, advanced signal processing techniques
