PROBLEM DESCRIPTION
A cold fluid at 20 C flows into the pipe through a large inlet, and mixes with a warmer
fluid at 40 C tha t enters through a smaller inlet located at the elbow. The pipe
dimensions are in inches, and the fluid properties a nd boundary c o n d i t i o n s are given
in SI units. The Reynolds number for the flow at the larger inlet is 50,800, so a turbule nt
flow model will be required.

Description:
This graph show the value of average temperature at every iteration
Description:
This graph shows the values of continuity, x-velocity, y-velocity, z-velocity, energy, k-epsilon at
every iteration.
VELOCITY CONTOUR:
Description:
This contour shows the velocity distribution of cold and hot fluid in elbow. This contour also
show the velocity at mixing.
TEMPERATURE CONTOUR:
Description:
This contour show the temperature distribution of cold and hot fluid in 3D elbow and also show
the temperature at mixing of hot and cold fluid.
VELOCITY VECTORS:
Description:
This figure shows the particle tracking or velocity vector of cold and hot fluid.
Description:
This figure shows the temperature profile at different position of elbow. In this graph we can see
that at the inlet of cold fluid the temperature is low and at the inlet of hot fluid temperature is
high and at the mixing temperature of hot fluid is decrease.
Description:
The hydraulic diameter Dh is defined as:
Dh =4A/Pw
This figure shows distribution of dynamic head in elbow

VELOCITY VECTOR:
Description:
This figure shows the particle tracking or velocity vector of cold and hot fluid.
Description:
This figure shows the temperature profile at different position of elbow. In 2d elbow the
temperature is realistic because at the mixing temperature of hot fluid is not decrease.

VELOCITY CONTOUR
TEMPERTURE CONTOUR
Temperature distribution in 3d elbow show
good mixing of two fluids mean that
temperature of two fluid at the outlet become
same as shown in fig.1.5.
VELOCITY VECTOR
Velocity vector shows realistic particle
tracking and velocity distribution of two fluids
as shown in fig.1.6.
CONCLUSION:
In the end we conclude that velocity, temperature and dynamic head distribution of 3d elbow is
calculate accurately than 2d elbow,
